2k doing better than EA for X360

Talk about NBA Live 06 here.

2k doing better than EA for X360

Postby AllenIverson3x on Thu Nov 10, 2005 10:04 am

i have been a Live fan for the past few years... now i am disapointed with EA because they dropped franchise mode and ASW for the XBOX 360... All they concentrated on was the graphics (which is pretty good by the way).

next year they will know their mistakes and fix it (i hope)

2k6 for me for X360..

I agree. Even with gamespot.com reviews for NBA Live 2006 and NBA 2K6, the 2K6 is rated convincingly much higher than Live 2006. I am disappointed with Live 2005 and would definitely switch to 2K6 later this year when I buy it for Xmas.

I do not know what kind of stupidity EA is doing to this game. When they put some nice feature in one year and it proves to be a hit among the fans (dynasty mode, 3-point shoot-out, sortable statistics buttons in important screens, customisable team strategy such as crash boards setting, to name a few) they take it out after a couple of years. Why? Why take out very nice features of the game? For what? Lack of space in the cds to put all of those stuff? I don't think so.

What kind of stupidity is that? Maybe EA takes out attractive game features so that after a couple of years they could bring it back in as a "new" feature? Stupid.

In the mean time, you still have to put up with the computers "AI" (read: cheating). Why can't they fix what's broken and leave alone what's not.

I'm switching to a better game from now on. NBA 2k6.

2K6 has shown a lot of gameplay videos, and to me personally (btw im not a fanboy, i own both 2k6 and live 06) i think 2k6 has more features and everythings, but live 06 seems more fun for exhibition games and graphics seem better, but 2k6 has better animatiosn thats fo sho.

There's several gameplay videos and I think the game looks like a real game going on with the camera view they are using.

I thought NBA LIVE looked better until I seen the HD videos of NBA 2K6. The player models are so realistic. I have one of the video clips, check it out.

I might buy both...I would like to try 2k6 for a change, but I'm also interested in seeing the realistic ragdoll collisions Tim was talking about in his video interview. I agree with those who say 2k6 animations look better, and the press camera view in 2k6 is like television. Whole new game - shot stick, isomotion with left analog stick and 2 modifier buttons(I think its 2). Players are sweating at the beginning of the game in Live, what about the sweat in 2k6?

I think the sweat thing is the new jaw dropper in the games so I'd say sweat from the balls all the way to the big toe. You know the game developers once they find something new like bullet time and sweat it will be in every game we see from now on over done.

Looks like they are in Slo-Mo and they are doing the floating halo jump.
Then also half of the video was the point guard with the ball for a good 20 secounds tryen to find a hole to get to the basket.
To hard to juke past a defender and theres what like 1 button to use and you dont know if you will crossover or spin or ect... right?

I just can't see any fun in the game I downloaded it today for xbox and played half a game and stuck it in a spindle.

Whats up with all the people sayin that Live is to Arcade? Do theese people know about the three sets of sliders provided in the options?

Don't forget to checkout the Live06 HD videos. The jerseys move also and the players sweat also.

2k6 just looks to slow for me I actually wish I liked it better but I don't.

I have a feeling I will be renting to see which I prefer for 360, or maybe going back to the PC for Live '06.

A comparative between both games;

http://xbox360.1up.com/do/previewPage?c ... 626&did=13

Tim Tschirner talks about NBA Live 360.

http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sports/ ... id=6136646 (full Q&A)

Here is a masterpiece of a resume:

GS:Unlike football stadiums and baseball parks, it's sometimes tough to notice the subtle differences in NBA arenas. How did the NBA Live 06 team approach building realistic arenas and how successful was that approach?
TT: It's true, the individual differences can seem subtle, but when you put them all together the spaces really feel different. That's something I think we really captured well in the game this year. We wanted to give you the feeling that when you play in a different arena you're really traveling to a new place and you're able to feel what it's like to be playing in that city's real arena. With all this authentic detail and realism, we designed our cameras to really take advantage and give you a complete picture of your surroundings.

To build all these realistic arenas we started by tossing out all the arenas from current gen. Even though they are all authentic, they simply didn't scale up anymore. We worked really close with the NBA to gather exhaustive reference shots from every arena. We literally spent months gathering tens of thousands of photographs of every inch of each arena. The photographers we worked with shot the images to detailed technical specifications so that we could use a process called photogrammetry to build the geometry. In this process, the images are analyzed by computer software that re-creates the objects in the scene to the exact dimensions of their real-life counterparts. Other reference images are then used for the surface textures. On top of all that, a team of very talented artists then puts the final finishing touches to each arena with a lot of attention to detail.
Because every aspect of these environments was captured from the actual locations that they represent, the result is unparalleled realism. These aren't artist renditions of NBA arenas; these are the real things.

GS: Can you give us an idea of how many new animations have been added to the game for the Xbox 360? How will those new animations reflect in the actual gameplay on the court?

TT: I can't give you a concrete total number of animations, but compared to previous years there are four to five times the number of new animations in the Xbox 360 version of NBA Live 06.

WOW

We have a ton of new dunks and layups, including alley-oops and put-back dunks. They not only look amazing, but they also allowed us to further differentiate superstar dunkers from the rest of the league. With our reduced collision cylinders and rag-doll-like physics we have been able to create more advanced and organic collisions, not only while players move around, but also when they go up to dunk on a defender.
We have added in some signature jump shots as well to further highlight our focus on reality. To name a few, we have Wade's, KG's, Tony Parker's, and Shawn Marion shots in there, and they all show off the different shooting styles that the different NBA players have. Related to this, we have more than 40 signature free-throw routines, from Rip over Shaq to Jermaine O'Neal.
There are a bunch of new passes and receptions, which add more variety and enabled us to add more flow to the game, especially with our rewritten fast-break logic

And finally, we have added a ton of animation into our crowd this year. Spectators stand and cheer or sit and boo, and they taunt visiting players when they are shooting free throws by waving their arms to distract them. They also stand and cheer for made three-point shots and rise to their feet in anticipation when a player is on a fast break. The new and improved crowd is a big component to the overall five-on-five atmosphere.

Some players sweat more, some players sweat less. Toward the end of an intensive game most players are usually drenched in sweat, unless they've just been substituted in. That's how it is in real life, and that's how we implemented it in the final version of Live 06.
