I've tried so hard, but I can't like this game...

This game plays more like a silly arcade game from the 80's. The game play is so sluggish that I can't stay in front of the guy I am defending, no matter what. The computer can dunk at will on whoever he wants. He can also get past anyone he wants leaving you behind everytime. Everytime you go up for a dunk or layup under the basket, you are hacked at and miss. No foul is called most of the time. On the other end, when the computer goes up for a dunk/lay up and you challenege him, he will make some silly off balance shot and make it most of the time.
I confess to having played only a few games, but I get too frustrated to continue trying. I have been playing since 2000, and have had all the versions since. 2005 is by far the best. 2006 is just plain silly. I give up!

Just wanted to vent my anger at EA for making the game crappier instead of improving what they already have.

Yeah I wish I liked it. Was looking forward to its release for a while. It seems more like a console type game. Its strange that EA have gone in that direction for the PC. I hope that they will get it better in 07. I'm getting bored of 05, so I guess I'll give the NBA a rest for now

Personally I don't like playing D holding the analogue down (same for backing down). I don't think there is a way to change it back to one of the L buttons though, so thats a bit frustrating.

I use the keyboard, and I absolutely refuse to buy a game pad. I have been using the keyboard and mouse for gaming for over 10 years, and love it. I would never use a game pad. I think its a shame that EA has "forced" users to use a game pad for this game.
BTW, whats the defensive crouch do?

It's been said before that the majority of NBA Live owners are looking to run up and down the court full blast dunking on 75% of plays and being responsible for minimal defense. Granted, the CPU offensive rebounding issue doesn't support this thesis, but the User offensive rebounding certainly does.

I suggest that everyone try to play the game realistically - for example, don't have the inbounding player after a made CPU basket one-handed lob the ball to the PG streaking over the half court line on every play. This rarely happens in the NBA unless the defense is perceived to be "asleep" and a team can get a quick two out of it.

One issue I have with Live is that I can get a shot I think is good within 10 seconds of starting the offense. Often it doesn't go in, but it undoubtedly would be a good shot to take in the NBA. It seems that if you pass it around and run something that looks like a play, then shoot within the last 10 seconds of the shot clock, it feels more like basketball. I got bored of running a pick and roll, running around the pick, and lobbing it into the PF or C for a hook shot. The plays (double-tap the D-pad) seem to be a good way of bringing some fun and realism into the game.

Allow me not to get over it, if you will. The PC has always had its advantage over consoles because of its keyboard and mouse tandem. IMO, it gives you a much better feel for the game, and better control. I see no sane reason why EA should dictate whether I play with a keyboard or game pad. If I wanted to play with a game pad, I would have bought a PS, XBOX, Nintendo etc. They could at least have made it playable with a keyboard. And the sliders don't have as much effect on the game as I wish they did.

I disagree. 05 and 06 have very different game play. 05 is so much smoother and realistic. It doesn't use all the fancy off balance shit, that kids dream of playing on the 'hoods courts. And I know Nate Robinson dunked on Channing Frye once, but let the computer try that 10 times, and it will do it 10 times.

And speaking of arcades, why the hell did EA think that a Superstar Trigger button would be more important than a backdown button?

I really feel that the main difference from nba 2005 and 2006 is offense and defense. in 2005, whatever you all say.. it is the most realistic. why? coz you can hardly score more than a hundred if you play the game 7 mins per quarter with fatigue. in 2006, i've been playing with a friend for 6 mins per quarter and our scores reach about a hundred.

also, im a very defensive person which finds blocking much enjoyable than dunking. i think EA saw what other people think was the "problem" in nba 2005 which is strong blocking ability.. the blocker moves and jumps faster than the offensive player and jumps higher too. i think it would have been better if in 2006 they removed only one attribute. either lower the jump (and also the blocking ability) of the defensive player or make his movement almost as fast as the offensive player but not both.

anyway, in 2005 no matter how deep the offense in the paint you can still block the shot. in 2006, as long as the offense gets inside the no charge area there is very little chance that you can block that shot even if it's just a layup and even if the one doing the layup is just a point guard. There is also a big delay when you block a shot, and whenever that happens there's a big probability that you can't use that person to block again whenever your opponent picks the ball (which occurs often) and goes for the dunk.

off topic, i think there should be a post here wherein the best combination for sliders is suggested. (sorry if there's one already, haven't been reading all topics) i don't think the default is a good one.

How in the hell can some of you play and enjoy the game to its FULLEST using a damn keyboard? I can understand playing FP shooters with a keyboard but NBA Live?

usil, just download PPJoy. a joystick emulator. there's a separate forum for that. i've used it and i got the back down move again. the only difference is that the crossover and spin move are binded on 2 different keys unlike in the conventional keyboard controller wherein they are binded on one button.

i also think you're right. there are a lot of buttons on a keyboard compared with a joystick. so EA should have thought of binding the backdown on a specific key. let's just think that it's unintentional.. just lack of quality control.

I have been using ppjoy, which is definitely an improvement. Not great, but much better. The only thing that I have not been able to do is find out how to use the good old crossover button. The way it is set up now, I have spin move and crossover as the same button, depending on whether i am moving down court or standing still, however, the crossover is not the original one. Its the new one, which I can't stand. I am still trying to figure out how to use the original one. I posted about it in the ppjoy thread and got an answer. I just haven't had the time to try it out yet.
