NBA Live 2003 on Windows 8.1

Postby docj83 on Wed Dec 04, 2013 6:11 am

Apparently the game runs on Windows 8.1 but seems to encounter an error when running (or searching) for players.dbf on the working db folder. I tried deleting the workingdb folder and running the app again but it is still the same. It hangs after the EA Sports logo video. Please help! The app works fine on Windows 7 Ultimate but I cannot seem to find a way to make it work on Windows 8.1. I even tried to uninstall and full re-installation of the game but it is still the same.

Have you tried any of the compatibility settings yet?

Did that as well. Anyway, Let me provide some screenshots...

The screen freezes upon reaching this one...

So I don't have any choice but to go back to my desktop since I tried waiting but nothing happens. When I return to my desktop, these notifications appear.

As I have said, I tried almost everything. My hardware has been the same. The only thing that I changed in my PC would be the Windows version itself. I simply wonder since NBA Live 2003 has been working perfectly on Windows 7. Again, I need your help guys. Many thanks in advance.

The game is over ten years old. If compatibility settings or run as admin aren't doing the trick, you may be out of luck...unless of course, you've got a copy of Windows XP lying around, in which case you could give VMWare a try.

Just tried it out today for the first time on Win8.1. It should work if you right click, select Properties, go to Compatibility Settings, and turn on "Run as Administrator" go to the dropdown menu and and select Compatibility with Windows XP Service Pack 2. Worked for me.
