the star icon has gone crazy

Sun Aug 03, 2003 11:38 pm

For some reason the star icon is wacked out...the computer chooses whoever it wants. My primacy ratings are all fine, and my overall ratings are fine as well. Yeah the overall ratings in the dbf are higher than they are in the game, but I've kept that consistent

so there's no reason in hell why ilgauskas should have the star icon over ricky davis in my game (ricky has both a higher rating and higher primacy) when they're both on the court

How can I fix this?

Yeah the overall ratings in the dbf are higher than they are in the game, but I've kept that consistent

It's the other way around. For example, a rating of 20 in the DBF equals a rating of 60 in the game.

no no

if you go to the edit screen in the game, it will give the the overall rating

But since I have lowered a lot of attributes, the overall ratings are low

so I have gone in the dbf and made them higher

that's what I meant

I know all about the multipliers in the dbf...I still have no idea why they didn't just make them identical, so what's on the dbf shows up in the game the same

makes no sense

The game recalculates the overall ratings so changes you make to the OVERALLRTG in a DBF editor will not be permanent.

Mon Aug 04, 2003 7:59 pm

yes yes, but in the game itself....when you go to the edit player option and it shows you the ratings, they're all fine!!

even in the game, ricky has a higher rating than Z. Jalen rose obviously has a higher rating than crawford, yet jamal gets the star icon

and it switches every time i play!

I don't get it

Mon Aug 04, 2003 8:33 pm

You mean when you edit the overall ratings in the DBF then view them in the game, they reflect the changes you made?

Mon Aug 04, 2003 11:08 pm

of course, why wouldn't they??

I change the overall ratings in the dbf...then load the rosters in the game

if you go to "reorder rosters" the ratings will show up as I have adjusted them

but if you go to the edit feature the overall ratings reflect what the cpu calculates as the overall rating following all the rest of the ratings. If you change anything in the edit feature, it will show the cpu made overall rating again. If you don't, you stay with the rating you put in the dbf

now thing is, even in the edit player feature the overall ratings are fine

because the way I have everything set up, all players have around a +10 differential between their overall rating in the edit player feature and what I have set it to in the dbf

so I don't understand why every time I play, a new player has the star icon...it just keeps switching around and rarely is it on the player that it should be

That's right. You can see the changes you made. But...

Whenever you enter Edit Player, the game will recalculate the overall rating based on the lowered ratings. If you're heavily tweaking the rating, you have to settle for afflicted overall ratings.

The star icon represents the best player on the floor, so if you take the best player out of the game, then the next best player will get the star icon.

If it's randomly being assigned to any player regardless of your current lineup, then I don't know what may be causing that.

the edit feature only changes the rating back if you ok it..if you don't...it won't change anything

yes the rating is recalculated but if you don't change anything you get to keep your own

I think it's assigning it to the guys that I haven't edited

on the bulls I didn't edit eddie robinson and jamal crawford...and it was giving it to them

but then again...on the wolves it was giving it to sam cassell...and I had edited him

On the cavs it gives it to zydrunas...and I've also edited him...so I don't know...it's not randomly assigned

but it's not assigning them right

It can recalculate the ratings even if you just change a player's position or jersey number.

So when is it switching from player to player? I mean, does it change when you substitute? Or does it just switch from player to player during the course of the game (ie without subbing a player off)?

Tue Aug 05, 2003 3:17 pm

ehh....I figured it out...it's a quirk in the game I guess...

If you edit a lot of the players in one team (for example 4 out of the 5 starters)...the best player that wasn't edited will get a star icon

don't ask me why..but it happens

so I just went to the edit player feature, and moved a slider, then moved it back and clicked ok.

Of course then the overall rating was reset so I had to go to the dbf and set it right...

then load the roster and boom

I've had to do this for every team so far...clueless as to why, ha

even if the players that weren't edited have lower overall ratings in the edit feature it still does it....so whatever

thanks for replying

Glad to know it's more or less sorted out. :)

If you edit a player with an external program, the game won't recalculate his ratings until you go "inside", edit that player, and click on "done" (wether you change something or not). Sometimes you have to do that with a zillion players (I did it hundreds of times when adjusting the National Teams patch), but external editors won't do it. You need to do that while ingame.
