PA announcer problem...PLZ HELP!

Postby IluvitLIVE on Sat Aug 02, 2003 1:37 am

Hey guys I constantly update my rosters and several weeks ago when I retweaked my whole rosters I came up with an idea to get rid of retired players like MJ. Instead of putting the Wizard's version of MJ in the FA I turned it into a created player by changing the created field using DBF commander to true. I then proceeded into the game and went to created players and deleted him. So now I only have MJ in the legends pool, 90's team and the allstar team. Problem is that I just noticed now that whenever MJ scores on the 80's and allstar team the announcer does not announce his name. Same goes for commentary...they never say Jordan when he touches the ball. I can't help but think that this was caused by me deleting the Wizard's MJ because the announcing and commentary does not work for D Rob or Stockton as well. Can someone help me fix my problem? thx.

Player speech is linked to the player's ID number in NBA Live 2003. By deleting those three players you broke the link between those players and the associated player speech. To restore the speech for those players you will have to copy them back into your roster...

I'm just going by memory here but I'm pretty sure that if you don't want these players to be available in your seasons you can put them on the "retired team"...I can't remember the team number right now and I'm not on a computer with NBA Live installed on it at the moment. I think you can find out what the retired team number is by checking the teams.dbf file...

I'm sure Andrew and/or some of the other "roster specialists" :D can suggest a few other solutions for hiding Jordan, Robinson, and Stockton as well. But the fact of the matter is you will have to put those players back in your roster if you want the speech...

First thanks for the reply!

So by deleting those players I also deleted the link for them on other teams...sorry I didn't get what you were saying. I only deleted MJ, Stock, and D Rob from their NBA teams but I didn't delete them from the legends pool or legends team. Are they all interconnected in some way? Also how do I copy them back onto their team? You mean like create a player with the same fields and then place them back onto the team I deleted them from? O I am so confused :( .

PS I thought player speech was connected to their playerID but I did not change the playerID of MJ, Stockton, or D Rob on the legends team and legends pool.

To put the players back in your roster I would recommend that you copy those particular DBF records in from the original DBF on the CD...

The player speech is linked to the "regular" version of the player not the All-Star version. The All-Star version "uses" the regular version of the player to find the speech for that player (the playerID for the regular player is the important ID for the speech)....when you delete the regular version of the player then the All-Star version no longer has the speech.

OK...can I just create a Michael Jordan and then turn it into a noncreated player with all the identical fields of the original. Would this work? I don't really want to start with the original rosters again especially after all my transactions and tweaks. I still have the original MJ on the original roster just not on the roster save that I have tweaked.

Yes, you can re-create Michael by typing in all his information or as I mentioned, you can copy ONLY his info from the original DBF into your tweaked roster. Both methods will work...

Recreating the player does not work though. If you have edited the game in this way, you will need to completely re-install it for the sound files to be properly restored. You can continue using the modified roster though.

Thanks guys...Andrew is right. I don't even hear Jordan from my original db now. I guess I have to reinstall in order to create the link. Anyways I can still use my rosters just not hear MJ, Stock, or D Ron being announced ny the PA or announcer :( . At least now I know where to put retired players...team 32...why didn't I know that before .

I forgot about that...

It is complicated...but you don't have to re-install the game. You have to "force" the game to re-index the speech files. For simplicity sake...I say reinstall the game and then use your modified rosters (with MJ and the gang restored)...
