Tookit for Ms Access 2000 doens't work with rookies??

Postby Leander on Wed Jul 30, 2003 9:05 am

Hi,

I have the toolkit for Ms Access 2000...first, I select players.dbf and the other files...then I load the Megamodifier...when I select New York Knicks and multiply FG for all positions with 0.5, it works.
But when I want all generated rookies after season 1 to be tweaked, it doesn't work...I have 14 players on my team (NYK), it says 14 lines are updated...but when I select all rookies in the game to be tweaked, it says 0 lines will be updated...and then nothing happens of course...

What can I do? I want to tweak the rookies using DK's tweaks...all say franchise WITH tweaks isn't possible but why? First I globally tweak all rookies so that they aren't better as the rest of the players...don't have the advantage of being untweaked any longer...their overall rating is still the old one, untweaked one but it can be edited as well....so it should work....is a bit of work of course when you have to adjust the overall ratings for all 58 rookies (2x29)...

I'd like to help, but I'm still using the Access 97 Toolkit. Have you tried using Live 2003 Tool?

Yes I have, it works BUT the ratings are'nt calculated correctly. With the toolkit, FG x .50 doesn't mean that FG is halfed... e.g. FG of 82 --> FG 41... --> 50 (as it is the minimum)...a FG of 82 becomes a FG of 70 or something.

But Zipbreak's tool calculates it that way... FG x 0.50 --> ALL players have a FG of 50 as noone has more than 100 in the untweaked version.
Maybe I should use subtraction... FG MINUS something...dunno but anyway, I don't understand why it doesn't work to tweak only the rookies with the megamodifier.

That's because the Mega Modifier is applying the changes to the raw ratings (eg 0=50, 20=60, etc).

I don't understand why it doesn't work to tweak only the rookies with the megamodifier.

If Jonathan's around, perhaps he can help you out.

Do you have his email?
Or how should I tweak the rookies with Zipbreak's Live toolkit so that players won't have a FG of 50 but their ratings are decreased?

Got it! My way to tweak the generated rookies

Postby Leander on Fri Aug 01, 2003 4:25 am

Now I found a way! :-)

I got Ms Access 2000 and downloaded two toolkits...one is by Jonathan, the other one is this huge 2003 toolkit where you can edit all players but not globally. The second one is also well designed, the ratings and data can be viewed easily.

1) Roster management...make a note of the names of all rookies and their teams... --> Atl has ..., Boston has... and so on.
2) I open Marc Andrews' program...in the tab "general", I change the team of a rookie to "rookies"...I do so with all 58 rookies...
3) I tweak them with Jonathan Au's tool...NOW all rookies can be found in the team "rookies" and therefore altogether tweaked.
4) I open Marc Andrews' program again and change the rookies' team back to the teams they were drafted by...this is not tooooo complicated...but it is a bit of work to calculate their overall ratings...type type type :-)

By the way, which ratings are taken into consideration for the overall ratings? When I count all the ratings and divide them by 20, it isn't the overall rating that is listed by the program. Is primacy also counted?

I'm not exactly sure how the overall ratings are calculated, though I'm pretty sure all ratings are equal. In previous Lives certain ratings had more effect on the overall rating than others.

I just used Jonathan's toolkit...all rookies --> "Rookies"...tweaked them...and sent them back to their teams...

I didn't re-calculate their overall ratings, I used a faster way...e.g. Kurt Thomas has 81, after tweaking 71...Sprewell 84..then 75....Frank Williams 76, then 69.

So I created a formula, using subtraction.

Untweaked overall skill 80 or more: -21
75-79: -16
70-74: -13
65-69: -12
64 and below: -8

Sometimes I made an exception to the rule, that some good rookies really have a good overall rating and so on.

Now everything works, which means that it IS possible to have a tweaked franchise!

Ok, the only problem is the missing d-stats...but as I am only interested in the live games, my team vs. computer and NOT in simulated games, it doesn't matter when the rookies do not get blocks or get poor simulated performances.

For me and my likes, it works...
