Today I finally got my hands on the Nba live 2003. A game I've been waiting for more then two years. I still remember starting up Nba Live 2001 for the first time. Boy, how the game had changed, but not in a good way. Even so, I couldn't play Nba live 2000 any longer, even though it was a better game. That pumpfake was just to easy to take advantage of. It was just too easy. Nba live 2001 was slightly harder. I actually played a lot of 2001, making my team worser every time just to make it tougher. But even with only players with ratings between 65 and 72, winning was too easy.
So now, after months and months of intense anticipation, I finally have NBA live 2003 installed on my pc. I had been reading tons and tons of opinions on forums, previews, reviews etc. The game was lightning fast, it was arcadish, it missed a lot of features. A lot of people are complaining. What to think, what to think. Well I had great hope, for the pc version can be tuned to our liking (Thanks to this community).
So,
after playing my first exhibition game (73-19 loss on superstar) here is what I think...
The game is fast, you guys weren't kidding! It seems like an nba-video stuck on fast-forward. The player-models, the moves, the physics are ex c e l l e n t. wow. Passing is now a lot more challenging. You can't pass if your teammate isn't in a good position, just like in real life! Defense, is looking good. You can take a charge, the footwork is great and you have to battle in the paint. Blocks are spectacular and plentiful, too plentiful. But all we have to do is lower those block and jump ratings! Fast breaks, you can actually run a fast break!
I've played my first game and I'm not in any kind of panic. This game is going to bring me a lot of fun. So first thing I'm going to do is, tune the ratings. I'm thinking about lowering the ratings for speed/quickness, jumping, blocking way, way down. Hell, I know you can play at a normal pace, I've played with Kemp and he couldn't catch a one-legged ant eater.
and I haven't plugged in my dual analog controller yet.....
and by the way, where's that tutorial to learn to use freestyle?
