problem with roster editing

i have a problem when editing the player.dbf with excel 2000. when i save the file it gets blown up to over 1,2 mb, the original file size is about 520 kb. when i try to start nba live with my edited player.dbf it wont work. anyone had the same problems? or what editor do u guyz use?
