FOULS SET ON MAXIMUM (YOUR OPINION)

Postby paul s. on Wed May 21, 2003 10:46 am

I played a full 82 season,(12 MIN QTRS) with the Milwaukee Bucks and i noticed that i averaged about 37 trips to the FT line, about 3000 times for the season. I use Zaxis tweaked rosters, which i feel are the most adjusted ones out there. He felt that the settings for fouls on offense and defense should be set to maximum. On offense i definitely agree, not sure on defense. Anyway in your opinion do you feel that getting to the FTline that often is a little to extreme? I do play on superstar level and i still managed to make 86% of my free throws. As for the CPU they will get to the line only about 20 times a game, although i do manage to find a way to wisely avoid getting into foul trouble. My basic plan is to logically drive to the basket, although sometimes if i just dribble in one place and the CPU tries to steal the ball they will call a foul. Any input would be appreciated.

I think offensive fouls are fine on the default Simulation setting, though defensive fouls could stand to be raised a little - perhaps not maximum, as that increases the possibility of getting your guards in foul trouble (assuming you attempt to get a lot of steals when guarding on the perimeter).

It's usually worth playing a couple of exhibition games with different settings to find out what works best for you.

Andrew, good to hear from ya! :D Anyway its not so much the way i play because even with the fouls set at maximum, defensively i do play conservative, but in those 82 games i played i never had a player foul out or even get more than 4 fouls in a game. But as for the CPU, ive managed to get players in foul trouble quite easily. Thats why i was just wondering what people have their foul settings at. Unless maybe my offensive plan of attacking the basket frequently and playing a zone on defense is maybe an excellent working strategy against the CPU, seeing that i never get into foul trouble im thinking maybe with the fouls maxed out it might FAVOR the human-controlled aspect more than the CPU. :? Also maybe being skilled at FT shooting (86%) did help.

Even though did finish the year 70-12, (with realistic gameplay settings by setting the CPU team's offensive set,not using dynamic) i will say this, i had to bust my a$$ on every game i played. This year's version of live even with tweaked rosters for me produced the most dramatic games i have played on 'superstar' level with very few blowouts. After having this game for 4 months , im finally starting to enjoy this game. I know its a little off-topic of what im saying in the second paragraph but im trying to type myself to sleep.

I have the default Simulation setting for both foul sliders, which if I remember rightly is a little bit past halfway. As I said, I find this effective with Offensive Fouls, though I have to work to get to the free throw line. It also means sometimes I'm knocked out of the air and land, with no foul or travel called. Of course, I can just shoot it again straight away, though it would be nice if I got the shots. :?

I was actually able to set a personal record for most free throw attempts with one player in a game vs the CPU - I managed to get KG 19 free throw attempts, 17 of which I made. Because I tend to play fairly aggressive perimeter defence, I don't like to set Defensive Fouls any higher, else it's likely I'd lose Hudson and Strickland to constant foul trouble.

Strange. In previous Lives, you could turn fouls off by moving the slider as far as it will go left. Have you tried playing with Arcade rules?
