you are doing almost the same patch. just edit your old post title so you can announce if you have a new patch. just an advice...

it looks like you did a lot of work, and that is appreciated. but it also appears that you left a lot of work to be done like reordering rosters and appearances (im assuming) that and the fact that you made many different topics when you could have just kept posting in one and editing the title probably doesnt help with the community reception.

IMO, if you want more opinions, post some screenshots. get fraps from fraps.com, capture images with F10, upload to imageshack.us or something and let us see it instead of blindly downloading it.

never the less, thanks for the work, and I will check this out when I get back from work.
Opinions are my own.

For sure you have done a monster work... I've downloaded your last release of the 1946-1992 rosters but at this moment I don't have time to check them out with the attention it worths...

However don't be angry, I appreciate and respect every single release appears on this board... keep this project alive! (Y) (Y) (Y)

I've successfully done up the .bkr .csv conversions into NBA Live 2000 and 2001 .dbf's. I fixed up the years experience in the +ORIGINAL conversion for NBA Live 2004 (it 'remembers' the original experience, not the experience my spreadsheet computed on a yearly basis, so rather than 1996's Shaq having for instance 3 years experience he has 10 or 11, I formed a complex .bkr procedure to remove those instances in the .bkr and fix up the replacement operations).

I begun work on the new spreadsheet, which is going to be skeletal. It just offers a breakdown and something of a format for data for other NBA Lives and especially will offer a print out of data for NBA ESPN 2k9, even though it will boast no calculations for the ratings. It's essentially just a statistical database to assist in generating ratings.

I did do up a range spreadsheet for the NBA Lives 2005 and 2006 data once converted over, however, I overlooked a much more simpler process that relies once again on that awesome software BK ReplaceEm. I am working on .bkr QuickRANGE+RECALC files for all of the NBA Live games 2000-06 for PC. It allows easy range of all NBA Live games (and recalc of 2000, 2001, 2003) with a click of a button. I think the range and recalc spreadsheets still serve a purpose, especially for real-time comparison, but they could become irrelevant.

Image

The last 3 numbers in each of the replacement operations there are the max and low ratings. eg. 99-0))+0, if you want to set the players ratings range for DSTRENGTH, for instance, to between 60-80 you'd change that part to 80-60))+60. So far I only have NBA Live 2000 done, I don't imagine it will take so long to do the rest. This will work on the players.dbf format, not the first conversion in my conversion files which couples appearance and players.dbf's in one .csv for NBA Live 2005 and 06. For various reasons, functions need to be stripped from that initial conversion anyway by exporting them first to .dbf or resaving as .csv.

I just realized BK ReplaceEm is now after years of no development back online being developed as Replace Text:
http://www.ecobyte.com/replacetext/

I'll be keen to explore that further.

-- [link is removed: updated the file but found another problem, evidently the range generated from random ID's causes a conflict in NBA Live 06 I hadn't experienced by pure coincidence, I need to mess around with it some more]

CHANGES (BKR=BK ReplaceEm/ReplaceText file; ODS=Open Office Calc 2.3.1 Spreadsheet; Years=NBA Live game; +ORIGINAL=original player appearance attributes stripped from original relevant game .dbf and inserted over season):
- NEW (BKR): ConvertPLAYERS[2000] {functional}
- NEW (BKR): ConvertPLAYERS+ORIGINAL[2000]
- NEW (BKR): ConvertTEAMS[2000]
- NEW (BKR): ConvertPLAYERS[2001]
- NEW (BKR): ConvertPLAYERS+ORIGINAL[2001]
- NEW (BKR): ConvertTEAMS[2001]
- NEW (BKR): QuickRANGE[2004]
- NEW (BKR): QuickRANGE[2005][2006]
- NEW (BKR): QuickRANGE+RECALC[2000]
- NEW (BKR): QuickRANGE+RECALC[2001]
- NEW (BKR): QuickRANGE+RECALC[2003]
- NEW (ODS): NBA ESPN 2K9 {not functional, the basic idea; something to build on}
- NEW (ODS): RANGE RECALC [2005][2006]
- NEW (DBF): EXAMPLE/NBA LIVE 2000 CONVERSION 1999-00
- NEW (DBF): EXAMPLE/NBA LIVE 2001 CONVERSION 2007-08
- FIX (BKR): ConvertPLAYERS+ORIGINAL[2004]
- FIX (BKR): ConvertTEAMS[2004]
- FIX (BKR): ConvertTEAMS[2005]
- FIX (BKR): ConvertTEAMS[2006]
- FIX (DBF): Minor fixes to all of the non-2003 examples (all TEAMS.dbf's except 2004).

I was all ready to update with a new version, however no one here bothered telling me that BK ReplaceEm would completely hang if certain options were not selected (and sometimes with it) all this time, thus probably rendering my entire project worthless.

Re: Historic Rosters (2008-09 .dbf's soon)

Postby dwayne2005 on Fri May 01, 2009 12:25 am

- NEW: Historic 2008-09 season (users are expected to manually fix the starting fives as usual)
- NEW: CorrectionANNOUNCER[2003] Basic.bkr (just an idea, untested)
- NEW: ExampleP.MINUTESKILLRATINGS[2003] 1977-08.bkr (rough new formulations for skill ratings based on per minute values, the only thing that therefore remains per game is fatigue)
- NEW: ExampleRANGEADJUSTMENTS[2003].bkr (an example of my range replace routines in practice)
- NEW: QuickRECALC[2003] ABA 1967-73.bkr (this essentially does nothing except reintroduce the formulas used for the ratings in the PLAYERS.csv file so that you can get an idea how to customize them)
- NEW: QuickRECALC[2003] BAA 1946-49 NBA 1949-50.bkr
- NEW: QuickRECALC[2003] NBA 1950-51.bkr
- NEW: QuickRECALC[2003] NBA 1951-73.bkr
- NEW: QuickRECALC[2003] NBA 1973-77.bkr
- NEW: QuickRECALC[2003] NBA 1977-79.bkr
- NEW: QuickRECALC[2003] NBA 1979-08 ABA 1973-76.bkr
- FIX: NBA Live 06 conversion (inserted ID#'s now range 10,000-32,767 not 65,535, which caused invisible players in game in the substitution and stats options, some stroke of luck prevented me from seeing this before and it remains untested whether the new range works 100%)
- FIX: NBA Live 06 conversion (removed extraneous fields from original .dbf referenced file (600 or so search/replace routines) that caused inconsistencies in the .dbf's, probably not actually experienced but done anyway)
- FIX: Several example seasons for 06, as well as a small Larry Johnson name fix and a bunch of mistitles in the various files. And inserted in the 2008-09 team stuff in the calibration spreadsheet.
- EDIT: The NOTES.txt file has been updated.

ADDITIONAL:
- NEW: CorrectionBALABILITYDRIBBLINGSWITCH[ALL].bkr (shows my inexperience with the NBA Live series, I only now figured out balability was what I thought dribbling was. This .bkr file simply alternates the two ratings.
- FIX: Most of the conversion stuff needed fixing due to some problem I found in the above file.

I've since had BK Replace 'Em screwing up with handling of my .bkr files. What it was doing was taking my .bkr files, then upon exit it deposited that full .bkr file into the programs main directory as groups.bkg. Upon reload, the second time the procedure was applied it'd go unresponsive and reload the wrong .bkr files (that stored as groups.bkg). Normally, groups .bkg I think just stores the location for the target files. For many months now, I've had the save groups on exit deselected. It was still deselected when these problems arose, which doesn't make much sense to me, but what it means is that none of you would have ever had it working without the relevant options selected and possibly the .bkg file removed. It's working now for me, and I added a few brief notes into NOTE.txt about the problem. If I figure out why it's doing what it is and a solution or workaround, I'll update. As long as the two options are ticked in the menus and the .bkg file removed, it shouldn't be a problem.

Nice work! Let me know if you'd like me to mirror any of your files on the NLSC, we're still intent on providing content for every game in the series wherever possible. :)

Thanks for the offer, but there are way too many things to fine tune here (in particular, I would like to come up with a 'realism' range ratings for every NBA Live game covered). Also, thanks for the input! I just hope someone decides to explore the things I've done here. I should stop taking it down once I'm confident there isn't what I feel any critical flaws. And I'll post somewhere better than Rapidshare once that happens.

No worries, once you've got a stable release out there (and any subsequent updates) let me know, we can host files again so it's a standing offer for anyone with work to share with the community. (Y)

Once again, here's that tutorial video on how to convert the files (specifically the more complicated 2005 and 06, with Roster sorting ID fix):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vj4FMb-zBo

It's really very simple, so long as you have OO 2.3.1 and BKR. It doesn't take 5 minutes to do. Ranges and recalc stuff works the same basic way, but is easier to do.

Been messing with the per minute ratings, it really has its major drawbacks (having bench players rivaling the greats) and might go back to default calculations. I think I'm going to switch foul outs off in all my games now, tired of the PC subbing out star players for half a game or more simply because they have 2 fouls in the first period, or 3 for the half.

actually i don't really understand what you made, but i really appreciate it that all your ratings are based on real stats, if i could request a thing from you... could you change that inscreated field to T, so we won't have those ugly black faces, or could you do something for it? that would be nice

Re: Historic Rosters (2008-09)

Postby dwayne2005 on Wed May 06, 2009 8:33 pm

I appreciate the honesty. I wasn't sure whether many understood it. By default, I don't even think the ratings ranges of 0-99 are very good, especially not for NBA Live 2003 (it's better on NBA Live 2005 and 06, more even attributes, but the differentials are way too large). The Quick Range feature has grown very important to me, the tweaks improve a lot. I never experimented with the iscreated field. It might be too late to that for the default .dbf's (due to the incorporation of preset 2003 data, just replacing all the fields will replace their relevant data I think?), but I could incorporate it into the conversion .bkr files. Wish someone had told me sooner, though. (I think I did try it out originally, but I must have made a mistake somewhere, maybe there are more fields necessary?)

I have incorporated a pick of some star players in the conversion features already, they just need to be activated before conversion (only tested on the 2000 conversion, where it is needed). So you can have all unidentified players look like Michael Jordan or all players like Jerry West, for example. However, if there is a way to keep the random races, it would be better for more variety.

EDIT: Just tried out iscreated in 2003. LOL. If you thought my files were ugly, this was just crazy. Dennis Rodman would have look really normal here. There were players with missing faces, black players with blonde hair, an assortment of facial hair and hair styles (maybe I could do up a Gay Bar mod or something using these, all they need is leather outfits :/). What am I missing? Is there something else I need to address? It all looked quite random and crazy. :/

I'm thinking of calling my project more a simulator of basketball seasons. The range and recalc stuff allows you to really refine the game the best you and the engine can do, but it will probably never look appeasing to the common gamer.

I think I see what to do, but is there any adverse consequence of exceeding the games limit of 'iscreated' players? I can insert 6 or so optional lines in my .bkr convert files (or reduce it down to 1 if I re-randomize the race) but I am not sure whether to have it as a default or not (whether it's not going to cause a problem with any of the NBA Lives).

for live 06 I have the entire roster (15 players per team plus free agents) all created, so it shouldnt be an issue
