Now Available:Rucker Park Complete Court Patch

Postby bchogan on Sun Mar 30, 2003 5:57 pm

It's finally done. This is a completely re-done version of the urban court made to look like the Rucker Park basketball court in New York City. It features re-modeled environment & many new graphics. Included in the pach are two separate installers; one for 5-on-5 and one for 1-on-1. The 5-on-5 installer changes some of the court sounds to outdoor sounds, but keeps the commentary, arena and music sounds from the indoor arena.
Try here first:

I'm not sure how available it will be at these locations:

http://angelfire.com/nb2/livefiles/
http://bchogan.tripod.com/
http://bchoganx.tripod.com/

PLEASE NOTE: The zip file is 965KB, so it will take longer to download than most patches. Plus, it's large size will probably mean that my sites' bandwidth will be used up pretty quickly, so you might not be able to download it when you first try. I hope to move the patch to a more stable location soon, but I'm not sure when that will be. For now, just be patient.

-I may re-edit this thread from time to time, so I'm posting the first response so that later responses make sense when looking at the subject.
The ABA ball patch:
I wanted to mention that this patch was a little tougher to make than it seemed, but I think it was worth the extra time & effort. I think it makes a nice addition to the 5-on-5 street patch, but it also looks good in any game mode.
Now we need someone to do an ABA roster patch (plus ABA jerseys, courts, cyberfaces...well, maybe not).

Nice! I got a question, do you think you'll be able to make the Rucker Park court patches for both the normal Urban mode and Street Mode?

I've actually just started doing a Rucker Park court patch. I didn't start it sooner because I didn't have the time and I wasn't sure on how I was going to approach it. I've got a plan on how I'm going to do it now, and I've got a start on it. Keep in mind that it won't be perfect, and I don't know how long it will take to complete or how large a file it will be, but I am working on it.

That's great news BC, The only things you would really have to do is make the outdoor courts glass, with a single support going into the ground, then if you can remove that concrete looking border from around the court....add a couple more bleachers (you could just take the bleachers from the beach court because the have people sitting in them already, and if possible add as much people as possible to fill the bleachers, there're like cut outs so they don't move or anything...just for appearance) and add (if possible) bleachers behind the left end of the court...bring the buildings in closer to give it more of an urban project look...and change the color of the court to Rucker parks color and add the city park logo in the middle of the court....BC if you need pics leave your e-mail and I will send them to you....keep up the good work :!: And if you can put up a preview or two every now and then...your a great court patcher and I know the patch is going to be great :!: :!: :!:

Rucker Park:
This is based on the 5-on-5 outdoor patch. I still have some work to do, but it should be done soon. I used the low ploygon version of the urban court, so it should work for everyone. You can't tell from the pics, but the crowd isn't animated. The only way I could figure out how to have an animated crowd would be to completely change the stadium.o file, which is possible, but would be a lot more work and taken much longer.
I plan to have the install for the 5-on-5 version use the original stadium audio so that there will be crowd cheering noises, but this means there will be no ambient outdoor sounds. But I figured it'll be more like Rucker Park with the crowd.

Could we also make it so it was just installed over the default urban court, I still like to play games on the actual courts.

DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!

That is fuckin' amazing!

BUT... aswell as having it for the every court in the NBA, I'd have to agree that replacing the default urban court wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Now that's what I call quality. Do you think you'll be able to make a day Rucker Park version?

I plan to hav two separate installers, one for 1-on-1 and one for 5-on-5. That way, you can decide to install for either 1-on-1 or 5-on-5, or both.
About creating a day version: I tried to replace the sky with the day time sky of the beach court, but since the ambient lighting of the urban court is so yellow and dim, it doesn't look good. I tried adjusting the brightness and RGB levels of the sky BMP, but nothing really helps.
Once I'm done, I still need to try to reduce it's size. Since I've changed some of the textures, I have to include the whole texture FSH file for the patch, which makes the download about 2mb. I know I can reduce that, though, by taking out same of the textures that I don't need, and reducing the size of some of the textures. But I'll try to do that without sacrificing a noticable amount of quality.
Any opinion on what to put at center court? Right now I just have the leaf symbol of the NY parks department, but I'd like to know what the court looks like now. I've noticed from vid clips of rucker that the court gets repainted from time to time, but I don't have any clear pics of what it looks like. I've never seen the court in person, either, so I'd appreciate some advice.
