How to change free throw meter speed ???

Postby yvaan76 on Wed Feb 05, 2003 10:42 pm

gosh, this game COULD have been great. no time to complain now, it would take ages.

my current problem : in superstar mode, the free throw meter goes just to fast. yes i'm lazy and yes i usually don't concentrate enough, but even though i'm just tooooo bad at it and get sth like 0,34321 % at FT....
knowing that fouls are called randomly (not to say stupidly, u know if u've played..), it really affects my scoring.

so anyone any suggestion ??

something else : how to tweak ALL values at one time ?? i. e. setting the speed of EVERY player at 80% of the initial rate ?? (without having to change each one, one by one..)

pliz help me to try to make a decent game of this .. er.. great graphic motor. ....

Global tweaks can be made using the Toolkit's Mega Modifier feature, or by using Live 2003 Tool, a utility that is similar to the Mega Modifier.

You could set all player's free throw rating to 99, but on Superstar difficulty, free throws will still be difficult. And of course, if you don't have a great video card, they're even harder to shoot.

It depends on what cpu you have. A new computer, playing on Superstar level, the freethrows are fine. With an older model, it will be tough.

thanks 4 the tip, i'll try.
though, tweaking the t-meter speed itself would be better .. : if every player has 99 at FT, computer will get almost 100% and i'll still struggle to surpass 70 - 80% I guess.... ....
would be so convenient to tweak the game's rates ....

btw, i've got a athlon 1.4 GHz and a geforce4, so it should be pretty much enough... i'm just bad/lazyyy at shooting FT.. it's not the core of BBall games..

The only tweak that can be made is to change the difficulty - of course, that affects the rest of the gameplay as well. It's an area that would be great if Practice Mode was to be expanded - the ability to practice free throws.

you can actually keep your gameplay level at superstar and have slower free throw meters. you need to create a user name at the matchup screen, the default is player1 i think, but when you ckick on that button it goes to the option screen for user where you can put on player lock shot control preference and level. change the level there to one of the easier ones, then put the shot control to user or cpu, type a name for the user config and save it. back at the matchup screen your new user name should show instead of player 1, once you go on to load and play the game, your gameplay level will be at superstar but your free throw level will be at rookie or starter or allstar and the meter will be slower.

that would be great Twin.. though are u sure it doesn't affect the overall gameplay ? because seeing CPU leaping at me to try to steal the ball and open the way for a dunk... not my cup of tea...

it didn't change the gameplay at all that i noticed, on superstar my cpu controlled defensive players still never jumped to block a shot, then i switched back to all star and used the same user name and they were blocking everything, so it doesn't seem to affect anything but the controller options and the ft meter. but now when the cpu goes on the unstoppable scoring spree, you'll be able to knock down those free throws to stay ahead.

You guys haven't noticed this yet?

The longer you wait to shoot a free throw, the speed meter increases by itself. There is no way to change this because it is a part of the game. As long as you wait and wait, the speed will increase and make it harder for you to shoot. That's the way EA has been doing free throws in the past years.

Yes, I'm aware of that feature (it's been around since NBA Live 97 I believe ) and D1X1NG is right, practice makes perfect. However, slower systems (especially older video cards) usually make free throw shooting difficult because the ball does not move as smoothly as it should. And on superstar, the ball can move pretty quickly when a poor shooter steps to the line (though in my experience, sometimes it's easier to shoot with poorer free throw shooters).
