Momentum

Postby Cesco on Wed Jan 15, 2003 1:13 am

I don't know why, but for some stupid reason momentum is ruining this great game. In Live 2001 you could turn off momentum and that was great.

I'm trying the most used rosters around here, like DK's and Z's, and I'm trying to tweak them down with the megamodifier to play 12 min quarter games. I've been succesful with FG% and other parameters, but what sucks is that this game would let both teams have a quarter where they shoot at will, drive to the basket, shoot 3's and make points wehether or not your are a first class defender or not. You'll notice this at once: 2 pass every seconds, shoots that go in even you face the shooter, tricky moves that put the player in front of the basket.

I played a game Orlando (me) vs Philadelphia with 12 min q and in the first 3 quarters both teams scored less than 30 points. At the end of the 3rd we were 81 vs 75 for Phi (this one shooting 39%). In the 4th quarters Iverson and Van Horn got crazy and they scored 40 points!! bringing they FG% from 39% to more than 43%. So I managed to bring on a great game and all got ruined in 4th, where I defended well as before. No way, they always managed to score.

So please, everyone who as an idea of how to turn off this stupid behaviour, or turn off momentum, step forward and try to solve this issue. I'm trying with ratings, but with no luck: there is always this magic moment for one team where it can score like hell. Not realistic at all. By the way CPU Help is off :D

Thanks

Your right man! Some times cpu starts shooting like hell and you can´t do anithing. I try to call for timeout´s and play reaaaaaly slow, only shooting int the last 6 seconds of each possesion and do not comite turnovers. It´s hard, but if you do this, ýou will slow them down.
Also: put full court press defence when the cpu inbounds the ball after you scored and slow down the player with the bal (usualy the PG). Then put double team (when point guard reaches half-court and then switch to zone defense!

Try it and say something!

Thanks Nuno! I've experienced this "momentum bug" some times but not every time fortunately. I've played other game where I worked the clock and slowed down the pace of the game, and the result are great and funny game.

Thanks for the hints!

In previous Lives the "momentum" option was the physics kind of momentum, this made players no be able to turn on a dime and so on, so turning off momentum in previous Lives made it more unrealistic.

You're right DK. Maybe I got confused with NHL series.

But unfortunately sometimes this still happens: yesterday I played a closed game against Minnesota, and all of a sudden they managed to build a super quarter, as if they drunk a magic potion. Stojakoviv dribbled all the time under the hoop until he found the way to the basket.

It's so unrealistic and so stupid when the CPU manage to make a 9/10 FG in a few minutes, where in the previous quarters I kept them under 40% FG with my defense.
