Bench minutes in simulations

Postby escot4 on Sun Dec 29, 2002 6:02 am

I just simulated a season to see how the stats would come out, and the sixth man of the year averaged less than 15 minutes and around 5 points per game, and he actually did have the best numbers off the bench. Is there anything I can do to make bench players play more? I want to try decreasing endurance ratings and maybe releasing some bench players to see what happens, but have any of you found a solution to this?

What I do when I sim seasons to get real bench minutes:
First off it is alot of work and may not be worth it to most gamers but I control all the teams and I keep 8-10 guys on the roster with the rest of the players on the IR. I then sim half the season with some players starting and half with the other players starting....this gives everyone in the rotation around 28-34 with certain players like a Gary Payton or Kobe I would leave them at there positions starting everygame so they average about 38-40 minutes and it maintains there allstar like stats.

It can be alot of work for little reward, would be nice if Live had a better coach/GM sim strategy where you could assign how many minutes certain players will play in a game on average, without foul trouble and fatigue factoring in.....but thats been on my wishlist since 99

2013 is the year?
Thanks to Vl@d, Leftos and all the other patchers for their hard work.

Yes, the CPU will always choose a Sixth Man. Many of the Sixth Man award winners in the real NBA start a couple of games during the course of the season they win the award.

Thanks a lot for the link. I've made some progress with bench production, but the minutes don't ever change, and so the stats are still unrealistic for guys like Desmond Mason and other good bench players. Were you able to get the bench minutes up?

Hey, I've changed all the D stats (FG attempts & made, minutes, rebounds) in players.dbf, but everything remains the same  When I simulate 2 months in a season all the teams have their starters with 34 min/game and the bench with 10 min/game. This is no realistic any way...

I did what Andy said but I don't see a change. I reduced minutes, FG attempts and mades (in the same proportion, I mean, scaled) for starters and then rised up those for good bench players.

Can you help? Andy, sure that's the way for rising stats of bench?
