All my games are close, no routs!

Postby Immortal666 on Fri Dec 27, 2002 3:41 pm

Why is this so? I'm using the Blazers, season mode, starter level, 7 min. quarters and CPU assist on. All my games are close, I've never routed anyone yet. My average margin of victory would be between 2 to 5 points. My largest margin of victory is 9 points. There are instances that within the game that I'd get a lead of 10 to 17 points then suddenly the AI would hit one three point shot after another and I'd begin missing my fastbreak slam dunk shots. Is it the way I play? I play the Blazers with a 10 to 11 man rotation, sometimes making 5 man substititions and giving solid minutes to Ruben Patterson, Antonio Daniels and Jeff McInnis. But I don't think that's the problem 'coz sometimes it's usually my second unit who gives me the lead or makes me catch up. So, its probably programmed in the game.

Does this happen to anyone there?

Another thing that sucks is that unlike Live 2000, the AI in Live 2003 doesn't foul or do anything when the time is ticking down and they're just behind by 1- 3 points. I could just dirbble the time away and that takes the excitement away from the game.

Maybe I'm just expecting too much and as somebody in this forum said somewhere, this game isn't supposed to be a SIM anyway.

I just defeated the Raptors 111-106 in my season opener (using the Wizards), but I try to play as realistically as possible, slowing the game down as best I can (but still outscoring the Raptors 38-33 in the fourth). In my experience, it's easy to play realistically for the first half, but in the second half the game becomes too fast.

If you run and gun on the easier levels, you can blow your opponents out easily, sometimes by 100 points or more. If you're playing on the harder difficulties, then it will be harder to blow out your opponents.

ok i think you are kinda new... hehehe... am i right???

thats the way nba live 2003 is... cpu shots 3 pointers basket after basket... now when they miss or turned the ball over, you have the tendency to make a fastbreak dunk... during the 1st period theres no problem doing fast breaks, but during the second half, fastbreaks sucks... they usually have missed dunks or even layups. Can you just imagine vince carter, or tracy mcgrady missing open dunks, they'll kill me if they knew what im doing to them... hahaha...

you should settle for short jumpers instead of dunks especially when your lead is small, because in just a matter of minutes or even seconds, you would even notice, your opponent has the lead... so take your time and set plays during the 2nd half... and during the dying seconds or minutes, slow down, dont make fastbreaks and dont make cross court passes...

my first few games are usually like that, its either i lose or i win by small margin, now i can win with 20 pt margin or so depending on my opponent... good luck on u guys

cpu assist

Postby WIzKID on Fri Dec 27, 2002 4:11 pm

well, the reason you games are close is because "cpu assist" is on... that's the purpose of cpu assist, to aid the losing team and keep things close... if you turn it off you will see atleast an occasional blowout

I can't speak for Immortal, but I'm certainly not new to the NBA Live series, this forum or this website (though I've been a fan and forum member a lot longer than I've been its webmaster).

CPU Assist is off by default though WizKid, so unless Immortal has switched it on, I'd say it's just the difficulty.

Yeah, I'm a newbie here and to NBA LIve 2003. I just started last week coz I just bought a spanking new Pentium 4 1.7Ghz PC (naks!). But I'm not new to the series since I was playing NBA Live '98, '99 and 2000 before the motherboard of my Pentium II pc conked out on me.

Live 2003 really sucks 'coz it doesn't have the same features as the old editions like 2 keyboad players, saving replays, saving games. I'm totally clueless about Live 2001 though coz I only played it once at a friend's home and his pc didn't have a 3D accelerator.

Okay, I'll try to go for jumpshots and minimize the dunks come 2nd half. Got it! Salamat! Thanks guys!

Me too. I'm new to NBA Live 2003 but I've played most of the Live games in the past like 98, 99, etc. My friend bought me 2003 as a gift and I like it so far. But here's something I don't understand. I pick Starter** at my level with the Wizards (I made a custom player of myself in the team) with 7 minutes gameplay. I took on the Portland Trail Blazers one day on the Playoffs mode and I was leading by like 20 in the 2nd quarter. Then on the 4th quarter Wallace kept making a bunch of 3's in a row and Pippen with some dunks and layups. Each time I had the ball someone would steal it so easily even if I tried to do a cross-over. It's pretty weird lol. The Blazers caught up and I eventually lost the game 82-73 in the end. A lot of times it gets real annoying because when you're crushing your opponent then suddenly catch up and win. :x
