I happened to save those 2 messages from the old forum so I could keep looking back at it. Here they are:

I'm just gonna add to what Dastar said. I did a little investigating on this and here's what I found (I examined these ratings for all the players):
1 - These are outside/3 pt. shooters. Some examples of players with Scorearea 1 are:
Dale Ellis, Larry Bird, Glen Rice, Dennis Scott
2 - Players with this rating seem to be typical point guards that can hit the outside jumper.
John Stockton, Derek Fisher, Greg Anthony
3 - These are dominant, inside power forwards and centers.
Shaq, Patrick Ewing, Shawn Kemp, Wilt Chamberlain
4 - These next two are trickier. I believe 4 is for low-scoring centers who have no outside shot.
Eric Montross, Greg Ostertag, Oliver Miller
5 - These (I believe) are centers and power forwards that can hit the midrange jumper once in awhile.
Danny Ferry, Pete Chilcutt, Bill Wennington
6 - These seem to be players that are primarily slashers to the basket.
Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Grant Hill, Jerry West
7- From what I can tell, these are complete offensive players. I say this just because of the group of players that have this rating. A player with this rating is a threat to score from almost anywhere.
Michael Jordan, Glen Robinson, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter
8 - These seem to be mostly point guards that are real offensive threats.
Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, Magic Johnson
9 - These next two(like 4 & 5) I am unsure about. I believe 9 is for the typical power forward who can hit from midrange.
Karl Malone, Luc Longley, Rasheed Wallace
10 - I agree with Dastar. I think this is for big guys that have the outside jumper and are versatile.
Keith Van Horne, A.C. Green, Christian Laettner, Ric Smits
I hope some of you guys out there can add to this. I am really interested in hearing what you think. Until EA can give us some more info this is my best guess.
Hope it helps!
