i think for you to know that your game was really realistic stat-wise, you have to look at the FGA. everything will follow from that stat, number of FGs you'll miss, FG%, then from that the rebounds, the passes, turnovers the turnovers, etc.
you might get realistic scores, like 60's, 70's, 80's but if your FGA is around 50, it is still not a sim. the average team has 70-85 FGA/game. thats why the length per quarter is important for a real sim. from my experience, you'll get the right FGA from 9-min quarters. in 12-mins sometimes you'll reach 90 or even 100. thats not right.
BTW, is there a tweak out there for realistic 12-min games?

I agree... FGA has always been the core stat to monitor whether or not the statistics will be "realistic". However, NBALive has always had flaws which in some way will make the game unrealistic even though you complete a game with a realistic amount of FGA.
- There are far too few Team Rebounds, which causes the rebounding stats to be in excess of what they should be.
- It has always been way too easy to block a shot instead of merely contesting it.
- It is too easy to steal the ball, or at least it happens too frequently.
- The rules of what makes up an "assist" is not the same as the ones the NBA uses. Or...they might be the same theoretically, but they haven´t managed to apply that to the game through their programming.
- The computer emphasizes to much of it passing around it´s PG - which causes the opposing PG to often have incredibly many assists.
But......!!! We need to keep in mind that it´s probably not possible to make a game which will adapt to each persons playing style and produce realistic game stats every time someone plays the game. You mention that you feel that 9-min quarters is the best option to get realistic FGA. And this is probably the case for me, as well, but for a person with a high-paced playing style it´s probably more suitable with 6-min quarters. And for somebody who runs a lot of plays and restrains from going on fast-breaks, will find it more realistic with 12-min quarters. So you´ll probably have to tweak your playing style to get realistic 12-min quarters.
