NLSC Current Roster Patch Issues

Discussion about NBA Live 2003.

Hey,

at the side of Tim he say the correct stuff, because, the players are so highrating that a rookie with 80 is .....low....

And if you correct the roster, all rookies are superstars, so franchise-mode is useless, untill you edit the the roster every season. Much fun :x

Franchise Mode- Rookie Generation

Postby Luke on Tue Nov 26, 2002 8:15 pm

I just started my third season, and ran into the aforementioned problem of new rookies having default EA ratings, and not the tweaked ones.... meaning some guard named Cato is outrunning eddie jones and allan iverson now. This obviously puts the franchise mode in jeapordy if you are into playing your franchise games, as I am.

I read that the rookies are supposed to reflect the current player's ratings, but not as far as I can tell.

That guy Cato has a 91 speed rating, while eddie jones has a 61.

This hopefully can be addressed somehow.

thats my two cents, thanks for all your work guys, if it wasnt for you I wouldve have put this potentially great game in the garbage.

Andrew...

Postby Wall St. Peon on Wed Nov 27, 2002 4:53 pm

I already sent you the rosters I tweaked, and they more or less make the game perfect on All-Star...superstar seems to be impossible, even for a vet like me. :)

As for ratings, here's what I did:

FG: -15 all players
3pt: -5 PG,SG,SF and any 3pt shooting PF or C
FT: +5 all players (it pisses me off to shoot 40% with Vince Carter..*shrug*)
Quickness: leave it
Speed: -10 all players
Steals: -15 all players
Offensive Awareness: -5 all players
Defensive Awareness: +5 all players
Blocking: -20 C, PF, SF; -15 SG,PG
Primacy: -15 for PG; I've had guys like Derek Fisher, Charlie Ward, and so on just shoot three after three and end up with over 40 pts....
Hardiness: -10 all players (I like more injuries)

You should try to go through and make injury prone people injury prone...set Ilgauskus and VC and Hill and so on's hardiness at 50...

The game stats are pretty realistic...you may want to knock the fg down a bit more, but then it would probably be far too hard to make jump shots. Definately use USER shot control, as you can't make shit with the CPU setting...couldn't tell you why. *shrug* I shoot when I'm open with good shooters...

MY OPINION

Postby gucci on Thu Nov 28, 2002 3:59 am

rosters:yes...both pls if possible(with injuries to be realistic)

salaries:real salaries

installation:msdos coz i got used to it already

but my request really is to lessen the guards(pg and sg) % on the 3 pt area.they are almost unstoppable when they start bombing 3s.even if theres a defender right in front him the would still go in.but i cant do d same to them.and also lower the ratings of memphis...they are just too darn good in this game(specially wen jason starts shooting 3s at you at the 4th quarter).and also lower the power of block shots and their jumps a bit.i hate it when the ball goes straight to the back court and i cant even get to it even if im already pressing the turbo speed.

thanx for asking for suggestions...

i just recently bought the game, and all i can say is this game looks really good!!! i played with it a little and i too have found out that the gameplay is too ast and the fg% and the scores are way too unrealistic..

Andrew, I think that one thing you should definetly look at for the tweaked roster patch is each players PRIMACY rating. In previous versions of Live, when I tweaked the primacy ratings of players, I never really noticed much of an effect on gameplay. However, with this years version there is very definetly a difference in gameplay when this rating is adjusted.

For example, I changed the primacy ratings for the San Antonio Spurs players because I didn't think Duncan was getting the ball in the post enough. At first I made his primacy rating 99 andeveryone elses 0, and Duncan ended up getting the ball in the post EVERY single possesion, so the primacy rating obviously has a big effect on gameplay this year.

However, due to the way the AI is programmed this year, point guards and shooting guards take a lot of shots even if they have a player down in the post who would usually take a lot of shots in a real game, i.e shaq, duncan, webber, malone, gasol. So, I think that for teams that have players like this, you should definetly have a look at changing the primacy ratings for their teams so that these guys get more touches of the ball.

As for the pg's and sg's, they take their fair share of shots with the primacy ratings that come with the game, so for teams that have their main scorers at these positions, you probably wont need to change the primacy ratings as much.

Don't hold your breath. My copy still hasn't arrived yet (that's what I get for not paying the extra for Express Mail), and I'm going away for a week next Tuesday.

hey hawks fan, i am in the process of making a patch which takes primacy & fatigue ratings into account based on an equation from hoopscity live. i however am adapting it to consider the bias on pg's & sg's in this years live using current season data from dougs stats site. my patch is already available but only a couple of teams have been tweaked for this, (por, gs, hou). it also features serious bump'n grind play as I have implemented alot of felipes tweaks & placed a premium on hittin the boards & grinding it down inside...

if u interested give me holler & i can send it to ya.

Cool, I'll give it a go, swing it my way. josh_nesbitt@hotmail.com
Im just waiting for the nlsc patch to come out so I can start a season with the Warriors, at the moment im just getting used to the freestyle controls and playing around with player ratings. I've been using felipes patch, but have changed the ratings in it a fair bit. With my ratings I actually managed to play a 12 minute game as the spurs against toronto, 85 a piece after 4 quarters and went into double OT. Twas a fine game. Anyhoo, I'll give your patch a look and give you some feedback. Thanks.

What do I prefer about...

Tweaked Rosters:
Two versions: One tweaked, one not. If I have to choose: Untweaked (many people like DK is doing a great tweaking job).

Real Salaries:
Yes, please.

Installation:
Not a problem for me. A simple ZIP file is enough.

Injuries:
I mainly play franchise, so I rather prefer "full" rosters without injured players on them.

I've always thought that the real speed problem with live2003 was not the speed of the players but more so the speed of the passes and the lack of a wider variety of passes. As many ppl probably realise, almost all the passes in Live2003 are like bullet passes, no lob passes or soft passes really. That I think, contribute immensely to the overall "speed" of the game. I dont know if any tweak can be done to slow some passes in the game like passes into the post and alley oops(which are really bullets  ). It highly unlikely that there can be such a tweak.

In any case i personally would like to see accurate salaries and playable IR list as well as a lowered fg% in my game. Thats about it for me because i have been having great games on superstar level recently and the only 'tweak" i would really like to see independentaly implemented is a fg% tweak.

happy patching andrew :)

Patch Opinions

Postby MCalca1706 on Thu Dec 19, 2002 3:38 pm

Andrew
It's always best to have a choice, like with injured players and either tweaked or untweaked.

This year everything seems to be leaning too much toward arcade.

I have yet to find a roster that really fixes the fixable issues.

My main problems with the out of the box game are:
Too Fast
Too Many fast breaks
Too Many Dunks and Blocks and by players that should not be doing either
Very Bad Passing, to fast, too far
Unrealistic stats and team rankings
Too much offense and Very bad and limited Defense
Too high FG%
Not enough Offensive Rebounds
Too many repetitive and childish animations
I really dislike different block and and shoot buttons

Happy Holidays

Just quit compaining and get another NBA game.

With the current roster, i suggesat you also make current ratings (Shaw should be lowered. Mo Pete should be higher). Good Job on all the work you've been doin lately.

I've made a decision about realistic salaries - I'll leave them until the new version of the Access 97 Toolkit is released, as it is much easier to edit them using the Toolkit, since the salary listings at nbazone.net are ordered by team, and using the Toolkit would avoid having to search for players while editing the DBF in DB Commander. Therefore, the first few versions of the roster update won't include realistic salaries, but I'll pay attention to the other elements and extras of the rosters instead. I do intend to eventually incorporate realistic salaries, but right now doing so would be too time consuming, and would only delay the release of any updates, which I would prefer not to do, especially if there's a problem such as there was with the installation (in v1.00). My apologies to everyone who wants realistic salaries, but that element has been pushed back for the moment.

Re-calculated Ratings

Postby K-Flex on Fri Jan 03, 2003 7:01 pm

Will the NLSC Roster Patch use recalculated ratings based on stats?

In Live 2000 Lutz made rosters where on every release he'd get a new stats file (probably from Doug's stat site) and fed it into the patch to produce fresh new ratings -- this was fantastic.

This wasn't done for Live2001 until very late in the picture when i started bugging Lutz to recalculate ratings based on stats. (He eventually had to port his old program to work with Live2001).

So, back to my original question...

I didn't change any ratings for exising players in the initial version of the NLSC rosters.

Andrew, any news on when the new Access 97 Toolkit will be released?

I haven't heard anything from Jonathan.
