Hoopscitylive new super tweaked roster

Discussion about NBA Live 2003.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! What the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This game just hates me. I LOAD THE ROSTER, LIKE TWICE TO MAKE TO SURE IT'S WORKING. THEN, I SET UP DEFENSIVE MATCHUPS AND BLAH BLAH BLAH, PLAY GOOD DEFENSE, BUT THEY ARE JUST SUPER FREAKING HUMAN.

They get the ball downlow, make a little baby step to the left and shoot and score...they don't give you a chance to move and play defense. PG's can just walk into the paint and score...theres no way to stop them...on a one on one fastbreak they player with the ball just keeps pushing you back and back, and if you for a charge, they just go around and score....they make such stupid passes you would think, but they always are made successfully...I'm going insane, for two games it plays good and now it hates me...it fucking hates me...for the love of god, i'm going to check myself into a mental hospital...

I stopped this game at halftime...asolutely absurd....I was Orlando, hosting Detroit. You should be able to tell my beef.

I made a change, and played a game on All-Star. I was the Spurs hosting Houston. Yao Ming has a 76 3 PT ratings...and jacked up about 6 of them, made 2. Also, Eddie Griffin...I know he can shoot the 3, but he seemed to throw up way too many, only made 1 though.

Code: Select all
Entire Game         Houston          San Antonio

Points              92               103
Bench Scoring       16               27
Field Goals         36/76            43/80

Free Throws         17/23            13/14

Off. Rebounds       6                8
Def. Rebounds       27               28

Assists             16               29
Turnovers           16               15
Fouls               17               18

Well, I won. I think that right now All-Star is a little too easy for me and Superstar is too hard. Hmmm.

Played another game on All-Star. I was Boston at Philly. I won, but the FG% scares me.

Turnovers           22               18
Fouls               19               14

Edit: By the way, I love being able to change your user name to anything you want. Haha, it could cause some confusion but it's nice none the less. Shammond has become my new favorite player all of a sudden, just cause he is just like me when I play ball. Small but takes it to the hoop, but can also burn you deep.

Any updates yet? After further testing, I think we might need to increase defensive awareness across the board. This should lower fg% and prevent easy scoring especially downlow.

Ok that game was 8minute Superstar, me being Nets. I got killed :(, the FG% seems a bit high,, (could just be my bad defence), i'll play again later and post the results.

Good stuff my man. Have been wating to try these out. Will post my results soon.

Mike, do you mind pasting all the adjustments made to this new roster as you did before? I would like for Andrew to take a look at your formula for possible inclusion in his latest roster. Thanks.

Ok, I tried playing on Allstar 8minutes, and it's a little easy. The patch is good but the FG% is too high.

Which is why I truely feel that defensive awareness needs to be increased, similar to DK's roster. If we go that route, we also need to tweak other areas such as jumping, steals, etc to reduce the likelihood of blocked shots and stealing.

After further testing....I really like what I see here.

Mike, would you consider maintaining 2 rosters? User vs cpu and online?

I understand yours are designed solely for online play and seem to be a good fit in that regard, however please consider what I'm asking.

Issues of concern: Defensive awareness needs to be re-adjusted. After working with Dk's roster, I'd say look into adjusting these ratings with 99 max for players such as Kidd and Motumbo, etc. Please refer to Dk's page for the exact formula used here. As the above person has stated, the fg% is on the high side and we can attribute this partly to the ease of scoring in the post especially with this new release. You should also consider reducing player strength to mitigate the issue with downlow scoring. Also look into reducing jumping, stealing and blocking if you plan to increase D awareness. This should counter an increase in the aforementioned areas(Steals, blocks, interceptions, etc). Once again, you might need to refer to Dk's page, but I'm sure you know how to address this.

Other observations from my limited time of play: For the most part, your roster seems to address the problem in regards to players propensity to launch the 3 ball. I also like the fact that the right players seems to take the right amount of shots. Gameflow is really nice. The player speed and quickness seem to be just about right. Your analytical and scientific approach to constructing and implementing these changes is almost unprecedented. Having said that, I feel that we need to combine the great aspects of yours and Dk's to begin to reach "bball gaming nirvana" so to speak.

Again, these are my observation with limited playing time. I will post further results as I play and test.

I disagree. I have found that increasing def. awareness increases the amount of pass interceptions. The steal rating seems to only affect a player's ability to strip the ball, and not the intercepts. Those are where a majority of the steals in Live come from.

You can go into the players.dbf file and change their team # to 40. I will probably remove them in the next patch.
Mike, would you consider maintaining 2 rosters? User vs cpu and online?
I barely have time to do one patch, let alone two. Sorry.

I will try some different things and make some adjustments in the next patch. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

First of all, I LOVE the patch, i just found this site thru yahoo and i enjoy the patch very well, i play offline games, i was already gonna give up this game because the FG% is too high by computers. I tried the patch and it reduced tremendous. My thoughts are that you can still lower the FG even more, and reduce the speed a little. thus increase the 3 pointers.

another thing bothers me is if i play franchise mode with this patch, since all the current players ratings are so low then the new rookies with high rating would dominate the game? or this can't be prevented? anyway, good job and happy holiday!!

Dexmaus, the only way to fix that promblem is to use the NBAtoolkit and edit the rookies ratings yourself. It would probably take 20-30 mins, a bitch, but worth it in the end :)

Excel Spreadsheet?

Postby FromtheBaseline on Tue Dec 24, 2002 1:54 pm

Gentlemen,
I currently have Live 03 for the PS2 and Ive been tweaking the rosters for the past month after giving up on the feel of the game out of the box. Too many pass interceptions, too many dunks, tad too fast for my tastes. After reading the apparent clamor for these tweaked rosters for the PC version, I was hoping to see a spreadsheet of all the players and their new ratings so I could edit the players for my PS2. I may be asking alot, but I had to ask. Thank you!
