Playing defense...

Discussion about NBA Live 2003.

There are some rumors that the Live 2003's Arcade mode and Simulation mode got interchanged. I know most players want realistic basketball so they play on Simulation mode, unknowingly they are playing the Arcade mode which is faster and typically arcady. I played using the Arcade mode and to my surprise the cpu players run like humans and are in-fact beatable on Superstar. I'm not really sure about this interchanged thing, but it worked for me. Let me know what you think.... :D

One thing that i find a little off is the speed in which Kidd and Kittles change direction when handling the ball. By that i mean, not using the crossover or any other freestyle move, just a simple change in the direction they're headed.

Like when i'm controlling Fisher on defense trying to stay in front of Kidd. I'm standing off him so i have some time to react when he drives, but he just runs around in all directions like someone set fire to his jersey, unrealistically and constantly changing his direction in a snap. Maybe it's a demo thing, maybe it's a Kidd thing or maybe i'm just seeing things, but i think that a drastic change in direction shouldn't be so instantaneous and should incur some sort of brief transitional animation or something.

Instead of going for the steals, why dont you just keep a little distance from kidd/kittles try to follow where they're going and wait for the block?
That always works for me, i've blocked their dunks/shots

don't you think live 2003 has a lot in common with live 2000? sf players have a lot of rebounds, pg players dominate the cpu (superster) game. centers dribble like they've been to the jason-kidd-doesn't-matter-how-big-you-are-you'll-gonna-be-dribblin'-like-me school?

damn! ea made very nice improvements but still didn't quite manage to make a complete game.

!#%*$^ fuckshitup!

is it just me or is there a problem with computer controlled players on your team getting their hands up on defense? i didnt see it one time, all they do is just try to block the shot. they never put their hands up to contest the shot. i tried putting defensive pressure up but it had no effect either.

I've been playing basketball sims evers since the advent of the classic dr.j vs larry bird one on one game. What I specifically like about these games is the defensive aspect of the game. I really like the idea that you can challenge every shot whether it may be a dunk or a sweet three.
The problem with 2003 is that its very hard to play defense and challenge all the shots at will. Granted you can easily block jumpshots but blocking layups and dunks is totally another thing. I just hope that something can still be done with this game. Its unfortunate that I still play my live 2001 and worse of all is that I enjoy 2001 much better than 2003. on the defensive aspect of things. Graphics wise 2003 is tops. Just wish that we could something about the gameplay :(

i just found out something about playing D... to every opponent there's always a defensive setup designed for them. for example, last night my wizards took on the t'wolves. i tried using double team on them and they just walked past through me. in the 2nd half, i switched to zone and they forced bad shot selection. after that, i played against the sonics. since my zone is working last game, i used it on them...didn't work. i tried switching to full court press & double team and GP went struggling to bring the ball up. for the first time my opponents shot 36 and 37% respectively and i got an average of 21 blocks and 15 steals in those two games. unrealistic maybe but i just figured a way to play solid D.

btw, always experiment with your setup D plays. think there's no prob in the offensive front. :)

Hey,

if you lost the ball you loose. The computer play lightspeed fastbreaks :x

And this crap. Last year we talk to ea that nba 01 runs no fastbreaks. Now the run fastbreaks but in a style..that is a joke...

Ok they fix the off rb. and it is really hard to get off rb.

No balance in the game....I don´t inderstand this. It plays like a console
