I will edit the dunk ratings. However, when I play the game dunks are somehow quite rare during slow breaks and setplays. Dunks usually happen to me when its a wide or slight wide open lane or during fastbreaks. With the scores you generate as well as the high fg that your game goes, i guess the games have been more of a fast paced run and gun game. Try to contain the opponents guards and prevent them from going for the break. Another useful thing that I do that forces missed shots is that I challenge all the shots...even the lay-ups and sometimes the dunks. I have gotten good results by challenging all the shots. I dont block them but just a decent challenge just bothers them enough to distract the shot and make them miss.

I will edit the dunks and send them to you. I will play some games of my own and I'll post the results here. try my suggestions and let me know what happens. By the way, Ive edited some of the trades in the roster that I'll send you.

***TO ALL THOSE WHO'VE TRIED THE ROSTERS, PLEASE GIVE US YOUR INPUTS SO THAT WE MAY CONTINUE TO IMPROVE ON THIS.

I have sent the rosters already. Pls post some of your game stats. I really would like to compare our results with this rosters.

Thanks thunderdome for the posts. Hope you continue to do so, now that I have edited the dunk ratings with the new version I've sent you guys.

Here's new game stats that I've played using the Magic

Orlando vs Utah

I won the game thanks mostly to the efforts of the dynamic duo T-Mac and G Hill. G Hill took charge on the third quarter hitting jumpers as well drives to the hoop to end the quarter with a slim 2 pt lead. The game was nip and tuck up until the fourth quarter when T-Mac took control and drilled two three's capping a 12-2 run late in the fourth.

settings were: 8mins, superstar, fatigue on,cpu assist off, crash boards on, auto subs on, 50% on both offensive and defensive fouls

Here are the stats:

Entire Game Orlando Utah

Points 99 89
Bench Scoring 14 20
Field Goals 40/71 38/77
Field Goal % .563 .494
3 Point FG 3/15 3/18
3 Point % .200 .167
Free Throws 16/18 10/12
Free Throw % .889 .833
Rebounds 35 23
Off. Rebounds 10 7
Def. Rebounds 25 16
Blocks 6 4
Steals 10 17
Assists 21 18
Turnovers 26 18
Fouls 13 15

T-Mac -26 pts 5 assists
G. Hill - 25pts 8 assists, 6 rebs
Pat Garrity - 15 pts

Stockton - 20pts, 8 assists
Kirilenko- 18pts
Stevenson - 13pts
Malone was held to an NBA LIVE low of 8pts

Pls post your results using the tweaked roster

Hi td3ph, i've lost another game at superstar level, i'm not very strong on this level, but your rosters' improvements resulted in a more realistic game (dont'look at the score    ).

Entire Game Detroit Philadelphia

Points 87 123
Bench Scoring 12 34
Field Goals 33/91 50/83
Field Goal % .363 .602
3 Point FG 7/32 1/11
3 Point % .219 .091
Free Throws 14/24 22/25
Free Throw % .583 .880
Rebounds 44 42
Off. Rebounds 17 4
Def. Rebounds 27 38
Blocks 3 5
Steals 3 15
Assists 17 38
Turnovers 21 9
Fouls 22 23

The cpu had a "high" fg% because a high number of breakfasts, but the gameplay now seems to be more realistic.

If you update your roster, let me know your changes, ok?
Bye,
STE79.

Settings:
level --> superstar
mins --> 8
Cpu Ass --> no
Shot ctrl --> user.

PS: sorry for my english, it's not perfect

Hi,

I too have been fiddling around with the stats to try and get a realistic game. However I really like playing 12 minute quarters and aren't willing to sacrifice that to get realistic scores. My biggest problem at the moment is that in 12min quarter game the PC tends to put up around 90-100 shots ( about 20 more than I'd like ) I'm not sure if there is a rating I can adjust to correct this. A lot of these shots are rushed threes....

Anyway generally my end scores are around 120-110. This isn't too bad cos I always play Orlando and they do score a lot. If I concentrate I can generally hold the CPU under 100 but in the last 5 minutes when the PC is desperately trying to comeback ( and cheats something shocking ) they'll generally hit 3-4 three point shots.

Anyway I'm employed as a DB programmer and use MS-Foxpro to modify the stats. I don't have the time to modify everyones individually so I just modify on percentages as below:

This is Foxpro code but I'm sure you'll be able to work it out ( it aint complicated)

REPLACE ALL FGPBASE WITH FGPBASE*0.20
REPLACE ALL INSIDESC WITH INSIDESC *0.40
REPLACE ALL THREEPTBAS WITH THREEPTBAS*0.60
REPLACE ALL SPEED WITH SPEED * 0.60
REPLACE ALL QUICK WITH QUICK * 0.60
REPLACE ALL DNKABILITY WITH DNKABILITY * 0.80
REPLACE ALL jump WITH jump * 0.50
REPLACE ALL blkability WITH blkability * 0.25
REPLACE ALL dribble WITH dribble * 0.85
REPLACE defability WITH defability *1.20 FOR (defability *1.20) < 99
REPLACE defability WITH 99 FOR (defability *1.20) => 99
REPLACE ALL stlability WITH stlability *0.75

As you can see I modify the FG shooting to be 20% of what EA puts it at. For example TMAC has a FGPBASE rating of 17. In the game this translates into a FG stat of 58. I do not know the exact formula for how this stat is calculated. I imagine it is something like (FGPBASE/2 + 50)
Downing the dribbling makes freestyle moves with most players ineffective and the spin move is too slow to be useable. That is not to say you can't break down you opponent on an isolation play - its just difficult, and the computer still calls isolations and breaks you down mostly with jab steps - not ridiculous lookign assortments of behind the back dribbles and spin moves. Anyway I have tried to make these stats as realistic as possible - I am not interested in upping stats for "gameplay value" or anything like that - I am still probably being too generous with a lot of them. At least now I get most of my points running TMAC and Hill off screens for jump shots and occasionally finding Mikey for the 3. There are still however of Tracy dunking through a little too much traffic.

Try the stats if you want and let me know what you think - and yes it it still possible to score 150 in a game if you abuse the AIs weak spots ( particulalrly post up D going for steals when they shouldn't) but I find it to be a decent challenge.

Finally as not everyone doens't have access to DB tools and programming knowledge I was considering making a "slider" program so that everyone else can change the stats to whatever the see fit based on percentages ( like everyone hopes EA will do every year ). If this is a popular idea ( and I'm not feeling lazy ) I might go ahead with it....

Sun Jan 19, 2003 7:16 am

thanks for the tip. The changes you made are somewhat the same changes that I made with my roster. Your suggestions are noted.

Cool idea on the sliders program. That would be really great if you could do this. It would be alot easier to find the right adjustment that would suit other peoples gameplay needs. Hope you find the time to do it. If and when you do this excellent slider idea of yours, please feel free to send it over my way at td3ph@yahoo.com

thanks again and thanks in advance.

BTW here are some stats that I've generated using my roster

Entire Game LA Lakers Houston

Points 83 85
Bench Scoring 11 21
Field Goals 35/75 32/64
Field Goal % .467 .500
3 Point FG 4/15 2/15
3 Point % .267 .133
Free Throws 9/13 19/24
Free Throw % .692 .792

Def. Rebounds 18 22
Blocks 6 14
Steals 12 6
Assists 20 17
Turnovers 13 24
Fouls 20 17

I played the rockets and I squeaked past the lakers thanks to excellent playing by stevie franchise, yao ming, mobley and james posey.

stevie franchise won it via a buzzer beater from three coming of ayao ming pick with 5 ticks left on the clock

To those who requested for the rosters...go check your mail. I sent it out already. Hope you enjoy using it as much as I do.

Hi td3ph
please send me also the tweaks

Fri Jan 24, 2003 11:45 am

just finished a very frustrating game against the timberwolves... i was up by ten points during the final minute then i don't know what happened! i missed all my shots (including a fastbreak layup by ai!!) then hudson and scerbiak made a lot of threes then i'm down by two... crappy cheater!
anyway, i played it at superstar level, fatigue on, autosubs off (i like to make my own subs), cpu assistance off(!!!!!!!), 8 min per quarter.
here are the stats...
Entire Game Minnesota Philadelphia

Points 96 94
Bench Scoring 13 22
Field Goals 41/89 41/94
Field Goal % .461 .436
3 Point FG 7/21 0/15
3 Point % .333 .000
Free Throws 7/8 12/13
Free Throw % .875 .923
Rebounds 29 47
Off. Rebounds 4 19
Def. Rebounds 25 28
Blocks 7 18
Steals 10 3
Assists 24 28
Turnovers 14 23
Fouls 14 7

iverson 34 pts
garnet 6 pts???

btw, i'm really having a hard time making wide open shots with all the other guys except iverson... i mean eric snow can hit those jumpers and keith van horn can shoot three's. :?

but anyway, i like the pace of the game right now... at least for 8min quarters... good work anyway! at least the game is not arcade-ish anymore. :)

The end result of your game is quite frustrating but I personally think that your game was quite exciting. The computer really does things like that, well just like in a real NBA game there will runs by both teams, unfortunately in your game it was the computer team that made that run. Calling a time out and adjusting your defense could help stop the run. Everytime the computer does the same thing to me I call a time out and adjust defensive alignments. More often than not it does the trick. You may also would want to check the fatigue factor during the closing minutes of the game. If a player isn't well rested then his shots may not be as easy to can as compared to a wel rested player.

With regard to the threes and wide open shots, it just takes a little getting used to draining them. Practice really is the key.

But the stats you've generated are quite realistic. I'm glad that you like the not so arcade-ish gameplay this roster plays. Play some more and soon you will be stopping those runs by the computer teams. Overall, your stats are very realistic, and I could just imagine the excitement of how your game went. I will post some of my results soon. Its good that we can compare notes. Thanks for using the roster...post some of your results again some time.

Fri Jan 24, 2003 7:35 pm

td3ph thanks for the file, you've realy turned the game to a more realistic one.
But don't you think it also turned to be much more easier? (slower and the AI misses alot)

Fri Jan 24, 2003 10:11 pm

yvkr,

nice to know that you find the gameplay realistic enough. My suggestion to keep the game harder is to play it in superstar mode, cpu assist off, shot control=user and try not to run the break alot.

I will tweak the roster some more and i will adjust some of the ratings to improve 3pt shooting, and fg shooting.

here are some stats Ive generated and I really like the results, despite the fact that I lost to the Mavs. Nevertheles, it was an exciting ballgame

Entire Game Dallas Houston

Points 84 81
Bench Scoring 23 22
Field Goals 38/92 36/58
Field Goal % .413 .621
3 Point FG 7/25 7/12
3 Point % .280 .583
Free Throws 1/1 2/7
Free Throw % 1.000 .286
Rebounds 21 37
Off. Rebounds 6 8
Def. Rebounds 15 29
Blocks 5 19
Steals 24 5
Assists 15 23
Turnovers 15 40
Fouls 11 8

wth 3 ticks left on the clock, stevie franchise had a chance to tie the game but his desperation three just didnt drop. Mavs win 84-81

*i suggest that you guys post your results so that we may compare results to further improve the gameplay of this roster.

Fri Jan 24, 2003 11:09 pm

thanks for your response, improving the 3pt accuracy would be great.
Does adjusting the opts' to user control shots eliminate the player's profile, meaning, will the centers\forwards start bombing from downtown (assuming I was accurate with the keys)

Sat Jan 25, 2003 6:15 am

Once I adjust the 3pt shhoting criteria, I will make sure that realism would still be the focus. Big men who cant shoot the three won't still be able to hit the three even if they had all day to shoot.

A tip into helping drain those threes, try spotting up the open man for the three. If you do this, it usually works. If you look at the most recent stats that I posted, i shot over 50% from three point land. All I did was careful shot selection. It really helped a lot. Try doing this while I tweak the rosters a bit. Maybe i will have the rosters ready by next week.

td3ph tweaked roster version 1.03

i already cleared my e-mail... sorry, had some problems with my isp...

neway, i was playing houston vs lal but i wasn't able to finish the game... before the end of the 3rd quarter yao ming already had 8 blocks, 12 pts, and 6 rebounds... is 8 blocks a little bit too much after 3 quarters of play? my previous games also totaled a lot of blocks ( more than 20 ). i'll try to post the stats of some of my games... i'm doing a franchise (w/ drafts) right now in superstar mode...
