Now I have finished a test about Mid-distance.
I used practice mode to play and selected Jason Kidd.
His fiel goal ability is 69.

And in controller setting, I found that cpu control can make almost 50% field goal in super star skill mode, in rookies mode almost 66% and in default mode about 55%. And knew that in cpu control, I pressed twice shoot button make shooting controlled by me.

Finally I knew that controlled by cpu just press the shoot button until the ball automatically leave my hand. -_-

And that just say the lower skill can make more field goal in my user control mode and cpu control mode. I think I just use default mode can make what I want. However, I still see a lot pc players miss their goals in Mid- distance.....It seems hard to prevent.

I see your frustration but the the problem is the game the engine is obviosly messed up otherwise we wouldn't have to tweak.

Now if FG is increased so a human/CPU player can hit 6-12 more mid range jumpers a game the scoring becomes unbalanced. This is because the CPU doesn't go mid range enough, it really likes to drive or post up. If you increase FG then players start to shoot 90% in the paint and teams start to shoot 57%-70% overall per game.

well i think the problem is a game´s problem and i don´t think it can be solved. because if you remember whith the original rosters the main problem was that players, mainly cpu, where putting in nearly every shot made in the paint, while from mid distance the shoot % was quite normal. they´ve tried to make it realistic(that´s what i think) making it easier to hit shots from a nearer distance, what happens in real basketball and so allthough having tweaked the rosters it is still easier to get points from nearer positions. but the problem is that now from mid distance is also harder to get a shoot in. but i think is not so dificult, tough i´ve had the same problem sometimes (some wide open shoots not going in, but they also miss those shoots in a real game).

apart from this, i still think there are too many layups and dunks(mostly layups) and that makes the game too arcade. that would also be the reason why some people were saying they missed a lot of easy layups, because as there are too many, and the fg % now is lower than in the original they have to miss more shoots and some of them are easy layups. it´s happened to me in some matches, i´ve missed more less half of dunks and layups. sometimes a non superstar player can make one with his defender in front of him. well i don´t know, this is just my opinion.

I have played two games with the new tweakes. The first game, Dallas vs Memphis, I had no chance. My FG was 30%, my 3Pt-Experts didn't hit any 3Pter (Nowitzki, Finley, van Excel, W. Williams), 0-15. then a 20-0 run by Memphis and many many 3 pointers from J. Williams and Co., so I quit, my players didn't make any baskets.

The second game was realy realistic. 96-84 Boston vs Bulls. Good scoring from Pierce, Walker and Delk, they hit also 3 Pointers, Pierce got 70% FG, 29Pts, 2-4 3Pt. Walker 22 Pts, 2-4 3Pt., Delk 15 Pts, also 2-4 from beyond the arc.

I don't know if it's my playstyle or something wrong in NBA2003.

Well i have some good news.

I was editing the DBF files and found that you can edit the number of digits a field will take without the game crashing. (This was done using DBF viewer pro)

What I did was edit the INSIDESCORE field to take 5 digits and put in the default values and then subtracted 1024. I know that's a lot, but it works just fine and the game doesn’t shows Shaq as a 100 in inside scoring (once you go below 0 on the in game then the rating "drops" to 125 in game I believe, when in reality it is a bout -300 or something.

Then I * FG by 1.15 to give best shooters an 80 raitng. This produced a better outside game while keeping realistic %s ( I played BOS-ORL and both teams shot 45%).

I think next I will raise DEF AWARENESS by a lot and FG to normal levels (best in 90s) to see if I can stop the easy buckets given up while having the perimeter be effective.

Obviously a lot of testing has to be done before anything conclusive is released.

But I see this as good news.

OK, if you got the time, try it. Would be nice, when it works...

In first game rebounds was just  . Well in both games I have high FG % because I play with C and PF a lot.

Sat Dec 14, 2002 4:25 am

Well I'v got some results.

Puting FG back to original is a bad idea as jumpers start to kill you, BUT with it at a max of 80 with the really low tweaked INS SCOR the game worked pretty well.

Raising the DEFAWARENESS really helped and now getting by guys with freestyle is pretty tough as it should be.

On another note, does anyone think that the players are not tireing enough, it seems Pierce and Walker always play 12-15 min before they have to come out.

Sat Dec 14, 2002 9:49 am

re: "players not tiring quickly enough"

i would say this is becasue the new fatigue formula u implemented nmeeds to be tweaked just a tad. when i set it up in my game i used a constant of 30 NOT 50....as this makes the actual fatigue values somewhat lower across the board. This will def affect mins distribution but still the best players on each team will get more mins as they should. i just think right now your constant of 50 is a tad high

Sat Dec 14, 2002 10:13 am

Maybe the formula is meant for 12 min but at 9 min it should be at 75%.

Now to the other things. It now seems that once a rating switches over (ie 1 "down" to 125 or something) the ingame value is used even though database has -600 or something. But things can still go down to 1 and that is still better than 50.

That said I'm still experimenting.

Sat Dec 14, 2002 2:54 pm

DK, any chance you'll ever add real salaries to go along with your tweaks?

Sat Dec 14, 2002 5:35 pm

tested the rosters and great job on it! i think you really have to play 8-9 mins to get low scoring ball game coz i tried it at 12 mins and got really high scores. there's too many steals though coz everytime i start to post up (1st moment the player dribbles the ball in post up) the cpu steals it right away...and also you might want to check out some player's jersey numbers coz i'm using the wolves and kendall gill still uses #13 intead of #9. also, everytime i edit a player (e.g. put some accessories on him), the rating seems to change from the original version...i don't know why...u might want to check it out...nice job though!

Sun Dec 15, 2002 3:42 am

Jey-em

I've said this several times, I did not edit the overall ratings so when you edit ingame the game recalculates them.

Joe

That is a lot of work and I just don't have the resources and patience to do something like that.

Sun Dec 15, 2002 5:31 am

I have partnered up with Travis Lee
Go to my site for the announcement

Also now I'm not even sure when and ingame value reads 1 it means one. This game can really be screwy sometinmes.

Sun Dec 15, 2002 5:50 am

I've played a couple of tweaked rosters already and DK yours the best! Keep up the good work.

Sun Dec 15, 2002 2:15 pm

Where do I edit /make the formulas myself..? I cant find it in players.dbf. And anyone know what to edit for Jordan's specular far far dunks? (he's the only one who can dunk from beyond foul line)

Tue Dec 17, 2002 3:49 am

hey Dk!!!......are you there?

what about your new patch???????????

Tue Dec 17, 2002 4:20 am

Damn Coldkevin, calm down my last was out like 5 days ago and an update could be out later tonight or tomorrow afternoon probably. I'm working with someone and tweaking some things manually.

Tue Dec 17, 2002 7:29 am

DK, how can i patch the game when i've already started a season? seems that would cause something lost such as statistics.

Tue Dec 17, 2002 7:49 am

NEW UPDATE

Special thanks to sipbsar@mail.ru for his help with a lot of info

Kalum, all you have to do is overwrite the players.dbf in your seson save folder BUT this will erase ALL player stats attainned up to that point.

Tue Dec 17, 2002 8:18 am

is there an easy way to extract stats before updating roster ?

Tue Dec 17, 2002 8:22 am

Actually I just thought of something!

If you have MC Access open to get 2 different windows.
Open NEW file in one
Open SEASON/OLD file in other

All you have to do is select all the fields over to the dunkpack section in BOTH files(the new and old) by clicking the top header over the 1st row and HOLDING SHIFT while clicking the header over the dunkpack field, COPY the selection from the NEW and PASTE into the selected area in the OLD (season).

This should work, hope I helped

Tue Dec 17, 2002 8:35 am

hey dk, your rosters are dope. i just have one question: can you tell us what your real rating tweaks are? the ones you post aren't don't reflect what's really going on in the roster tweaks. jason terry had a 82 rating for FG, and 81 rating for 3pters in the Default EA Sports Live 2003 CD roster. Then when you say you FG *.5 and 3pt *.83, but in DBF Viewer PRO it shows Terry's stats as 44 rating FG, and 72 rating 3PT. if you did the rating tweaks like you said shouldn't it be: 40.5 rating FG and 68 rating 3pt? i just need your help because i am using your rosters for franchise and i am trying to the trick to save and edit rosters to normal, then edit rosters again for the new rookies, but it gives errors and da ratings all get jacked up because i do not have the right rating tweak numbers. can you please help me wid dis. if you don't want to disclose your real tweak info tot he public can you just email me and i'll keep it a secret: jcuaton@uci.edu thanks in advance!

Tue Dec 17, 2002 8:48 am

me 2 DK, send the tweak settings to x6packxcl@hotmail.com please. I just need to play franchise with your rosters. They are so good, i can't stand going back to default sets just to play franchise. I also get an error trying to un-tweak some of the ratings. thanks man.

Tue Dec 17, 2002 9:21 am

Ingame and DBF ratings are different, let me try to explain.

EX. Player A has 80 3pt rating in the game, this equates to a 60 in the DBF

So the formula would be

INGAME RATING= (DBF RATING/2)+50
80=(60/2)+50

See I hope I made some sense.
