.:My Tweaked Roster Patch - BY DK 1/24/03 UPDATE OUT:.

Discussion about NBA Live 2003.

Global Setting for Franchise?

Postby Devillito on Sun Dec 08, 2002 3:02 pm

Hi DK,
I am so glad that I found this thread... I've been playing nba live since the 1995 series, the 2000 was my favourite, 2001 being the worst. 2003 version is gorgeous except for the gameplay. So I am estatic to see your tweak thread, and definetely going to try them...
One question though, does your tweak also apply to the future rookies in the franchise mode? Thank You. =)

Wow!!! Your roster tweaks are great! The Live feeling is coming back!

First I have to say I´m very much into realism that´s everything i want from a simulation!

For me here in Germany i like to play like it is in the NBA, 12 minute Quarters and all rules on etc.

Now i played my first game with your roster patch, i´m Dallas, o.k. what dou you expect from a german guy!? ;-)

Here are the stats 12 mins, starter (probably i´ll switch to all star) mode arcade (seems to be slower) all rules and fouls set on like simulation!

Code: Select all
Entire Game         Dallas           Memphis

Points              104              90
Bench Scoring       18               14
Field Goals         43/87            38/89
Field Goal %        .494             .427
3 Point FG          5/22             3/27
3 Point %           .227             .111
Free Throws         13/22            11/15
Free Throw %        .591             .733
Rebounds            50               41
Off. Rebounds       5                4
Def. Rebounds       45               37
Blocks              6                5
Steals              12               17
Assists             27               27
Turnovers           23               19
Fouls               9                22

In the first quarter i allowed 31 points, in second half only 37 at all!

Nowitzki dominated the game with 36 Points, Gasol with 31 Points for Memphis. Defense is hard to play but with using "take charge" button defense is more effective. Probably i should work on my freethrow percentage...great can´t wait to play on...unlikely EA didn´t support me with an InGameSave...so games take up to 60 minutes. Long time...

So, game on guys...and thank you DK for your great work!

Just one thing which i´d like to be fixed.

I´ve simulated my Franchise and at the end the following standings are the results like this!

Code: Select all

Western Conference            Eastern Conference

1. Golden State                     Orlando
2. Minnesota                        Detroit
3. LA Clippers                      New Yersey
4. LA Lakers                        Miami
5. Phoenix                          Milwaukee
6. Portland                         Toronto
7. Memphis                          New York
8. Dallas                           Philadelphia
        .                               .
        .                               .
        .                               .
13. Sacramento                 .
14. Seattle                         Cleveland
15.                                 New Orleans

I don´t think these Results will happen this Season...not nearly like this. Probably and hopefully this can be fixed!

Her are my latest stats, I was SAC

3 Point %           .304             .440
Free Throws         16/16            16/19
Free Throw %        1.000            .842
Rebounds            36               30
Off. Rebounds       5                2
Def. Rebounds       31               28
Blocks              9                2
Steals              10               11
Assists             28               16
Turnovers           16               13
Fouls               13               15

What an awesome game, Dallas opened up a 20 point lead at the half , without Nowitzki because he kept fouling Webber, mainly because I kept leaving wide open 3 point shooters, they were 9-13 and VanExel had his 1st of 2 buzzer beater 3s at the end of the half, the 2nd buzzer beater came in the 3rd.

I tried to keep up and worked Peja like a horse using screens and cuts and he finished with 47, Webb added 20. I ran the break perfectly in the 3rd making 36 points and what helped was 100% from the line.

Tied at 101, 21 sec left and I just dribble down to the last shot. I plan to get it to Webb with about 2 sec but he cuts at 3.5 sec, Oh NO, but wait Peja comes along cutting in for the open lane and a lay up! 2.3 sec left no timeouts for Dallas and Nash heaves up a 3 but they finally miss a buzzer beater.

BTW I mentioned this several times, this is not intended for franchise because editing imbalances the offense to defense proportions and the franchise results usually result in irregular standings/stats.

DK, first of all I want to say that I really appreciate your work and your roster patch made this game playable at all!
There is still one thing that is really driving me mad... I play in franchise mode with Chicago, at Atlanta. I play the game fine, building up plays and everything is going just right until halfway in the 3rd quarter... then my players start to miss easy layups, open shots, dunks, EVERYTHING! The Hawks just drain every shot, even if I double or triple(!) them! It makes me so pissed off that I have to quit the game! And now it happened about 7 or 8 times in a row! What to do, man? Advice, anyone?

The only reason that should happen is if you have CPU ASSIST ON. If you do for some reason turn it off because the CPU just cheats when it is turned on. I definately don't experience what you described, in fact I usually pull away fron the other team in the 3rd.

No, CPU assist is turned off, and it just happened again...
You know what is really making me mad? All these easy layups and dunks are CRUCIAL points! But it's always the same: I miss it, he makes a fastbreak, and again, and again... and it's lead is getting higher and higher. Looks like i have to live with it... Thanks anyway!

Postby P1atinumGQ on Mon Dec 09, 2002 11:19 am

I like the tweaks a lot. Just played a 6 min game between Dallas and Houston. I was Dallas.

Difficulty was all-star, with cpu controlled shooting on. Here are the stats:

Field Goals 27/54 36/61
Field Goal % .500 .590
3 Point FG 8/15 4/9
3 Point % .533 .444
Free Throws 8/9 4/5
Free Throw % .889 .800
Rebounds 19 28
Off. Rebounds 2 5
Def. Rebounds 17 23
Blocks 2 3
Steals 6 11
Assists 16 15
Turnovers 15 13

Thanks DK for roster.
Game is much better with your roster, but still few things needs adjustments.
I played three games in allstar, 8min and arcade, and my fgs were about 45% and cpu fgs about 55%.
The most annoying thing was that cpu was all the time in fast breaks and no matter what i did they allways had fastbreak and dunk.
Steals for cpu 12-19.
But all else was quite realistic.

Keep up the good work

try playing against them, Pierce does NOT miss a shot! EVER! On Iso I call a double team on him and help out so it's going to be a contested bucket nevertheless he scores a duce, I run it up takin a jumpshot and guess who's on the other end running? yeah that's right pierce! I got spree on him who is pretty much a speedy guard and pierce still beats him on the break 4 out of 6 times!!!

I understand how you missed this cos you playin boston as well... try playing with another team and play against boston. see how you go...

Check it out man...

peace

Well Boston has the same tweaks applied all other teams do, so if he is burning you I really don't know what to say. I know that players like McGrady and Iverson can be contained as long as you don't give up too many dunks. And taking a shot while all the CPU players are not back is just asking for trouble because if you miss they will have players in great position to run.

BTW on another note a new update might be out today but it seems there will be no new tweaks for the first time besides the updated 3pt shooters since the formula seems to be pretty tight.

DEEK!

Trust me man, try it out.... pick another team in exhibition, and don't play to target peirce for foul trouble (that's how I got out of it  But yeah... give it a whirl... iso with three players on him... still uncotained?
if I don't block him he'd be like 13/14

check it out Deek you know you gotta...

let us know how you fare out...

DK,

Studying the ratings you have come up with for yer patches I believe there are two areas which can be improved.

these are primacy & fatigue. by applying a global reduction of *0.9 for all players & then *0.9 for pg's again i do not belive that these two very important ratings are optimised based on team player performance within each team. both these ratings affect gameplay very strongly as they dictate which cpu player gets the ball most often, (primacy) & which cpu players are on the court the most, (fatigue). I therefore encourage you with great vigour to consider applying my modified version of mike aparicio of hoopscitylive's formulae for these two ratings. it is as follows;

primacy for each player is adjusted as follows, with accurate gameplay results. real up to date player nba stats are used. these can be d/l'ed from http://home.rmi.net/~doug/ ;

calculate for each player...

(FGA + FTA) / (MIN / 48 ) = Scoring Attempts per 48 minutes (SA48)

(Highest SA48 Rating for the team - Lowest SA48 Rating for the team) [eg: 99-50=49] / (Highest SA48 rating) = X

Primacy rating = (SA48 * X) + 20 - for PG's & SG's
(SA48* X) +25 for sf's
(SA48* X) +30 for pf's & c's

the application of the +20, +25 & +30 is to counteract somewhat the game engine's penchant to shoot with pg's & sg's first. you may notice that the final primacy ratings may drop in general but this is of minor concern cos what is of more importance is player primacy & fatigue ratings in relation to others on their team.

As the highest rated players are not necessarily the ones taking all the shots, this makes CPU players take the right amount of shots, including bench players who tend to take a lot of shots in limited minutes.

Similarly for fatigue, the same formula is applied replacing SA48 with MPG.

I look forward to these vital changes in yer upcoming patch. This will greater improve gameplay I can guarantee it will make the right guys shoot more often & spread the player minutes around more accurately according to actual live nba stats.

Thank you for your suggestions.
I have decided to make some changes but I am not using the formulas you are using, since they are too complicated and I feel the formulas I will use will provide the desired effect.

Here they are
Code: Select all
For primacy I will use

=((FGA)+(FTA))/((TOTALMIN)/48)*1.25)+50
Iverson and O'Neal end up with 99

For Fatigue I will use
=((TOTALMIN/GAMESPLAYED))+50

This will take a while to impliment and test though

When my original formula is applied the same regardless of position, it results in accurate shot attempts. Point guards naturally take less shots (with some exceptions) in real life, and therefore their primacy ratings drop from EA's default ratings more than other positions.

DK, your primacy forumla is very close to mine. You should find the results pretty accurate. Good luck!

This isn't so slow.
If you set it up correctly in excell you can do it pretty fast.
I have already changed everything up to Dallas and each team only takes about 2 min each.

Hey man !! Check this out !!

Entire Game Philadelphia Minnesota

Points 91 85
Bench Scoring 14 11
Field Goals 40/77 37/79
Field Goal % .519 .468
3 Point FG 6/10 6/17
3 Point % .600 .353
Free Throws 5/13 5/7
Free Throw % .385 .714
Rebounds 37 37
Off. Rebounds 2 4
Def. Rebounds 35 33
Blocks 5 5
Steals 9 12
Assists 25 15
Turnovers 14 13
Fouls 10 8

This game was very realistic.(You see that in this team stats. And that's not the only thing. The play was very good too.)
[But when the gameplay is very stupid(ex:fg:62%,steal:higher than 15 ,much much much fastbreake, etc.) you can't win,and you can 't play
a good game.But this game...!!!:-)))
I' ve played many game since I have Nba Live 2003.And I tried to find out, how can I play the best (the most realistic).
I think thats ...(sikerült).

My gameplay settings is:- 8 mins(or 9 mins)
- all star
- arcade
- fouls:def: -----¤------
off: ----¤-------
- shot control: cpu
- cpu assistance: off

!!!---!!! And a very important thing !!!
In the "Team strategy"- menu:-set the "defensive strategy": Man to man
Chrash boards: off
In the "Defensive strategy"-menu : All Quick plays are: Man to man

Therefor during the game it were about 2 or 3 "Minnesota fastbreak", and they and 76ers don't make
so many dunk.Like a real Nba game.Because you can see match, where players don't dunk too much.Just about 5.(Not all Nba game is an all star match !)

Ohh! I forget one thing: You see, my 3pt % is a little high. But don't wondering: because Garnett was Van Horn's defender, and when I pass the ball
to him( Van Horn), Garnett didn't go for block his shot.He stay inside and waited.I think "he thought, Van Horn wanted to go for an easy layup" :-)
But Van Horn shot !! Ooh !! That's good :-) He shot 5/5.
And my ft%....I must practice a lot to shooting free throws.

That's all. And sorry for my English.:-)

PS: I use the tweaked roster by DK.

Yeah!!This is my 2nd realistic game (I was Atlanta)

Entire Game Toronto Atlanta

Points 99 88
Bench Scoring 48 15
Field Goals 41/85 38/81
Field Goal % .482 .469
3 Point FG 8/19 8/19
3 Point % .421 .421
Free Throws 9/16 4/6
Free Throw % .562 .667
Rebounds 45 43
Off. Rebounds 7 5
Def. Rebounds 38 38
Blocks 0 3
Steals 13 10
Assists 23 29
Turnovers 10 16
Fouls 5 15

Yeah...!!! Another great game since I have found out, how can I play the most realistic.
I was Atlanta, and the "Hawk guys" played good, but Toronto didn't give up,and they won the game.(In the 1st quarter,
Atlanta shot 40%, in the 2nd: 45%, 3rd: 52%, 4th: 50%, and the fg% of the Raptors- 1st: 34, 2nd: 47, 3rd: 33, 4th: 84%
(That was a "little" unrealistic. They shot 16/19,and Voshon Lenard shot 8/8 /includes 3/3 from the 3 pt lane/ in the 4th quarter :-((

And here is some player stats.I think, these are good...

-Glenn Robinson: 26 pts /52%/
J Terry: 23 pts /67%/, 8 ast
Abdur Rahim: 13 pts /45%/, 10 reb, 4 ast
Ratliff: 10 reb, Newble: 8 ast.

-V.Lenard: 24 pts /71%/
A.Davis: 15 pts /55%/ , 12 reb
L.Hunter:14 pts /62%/, 5 ast
L.Murray:12 pts /36%/
A.Williams: 11 pts /39%/, 10 ast
M.Peterson:9 pts /40%/

I think it's like a real Nba game. (except the Raptors fg % in the 4th quarter)

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤-----Once again- My settings are: All star, arcade, 8 (or 9) mins,fouls:----¤-----
---¤------
In the "Team strategy"- menu:- set the "defensive strategy": Man to man
- Chrash boards: off
In the "Defensive strategy"-menu : All Quick plays are: Man to man

Try it, (with Dk's tweaked roster.)This is the best !!!!!

balage 76

pS:And sorry.In my last letter there are 1 word.This is a Hungarian word.Because I didn't know the word in
english, and wrote it in hungarian language. And I forgot to delete.Sorry...:-))

low scoring??

Postby royrogers1 on Tue Dec 10, 2002 10:19 am

do you think with the tweaked roster is high scoring gone?
i just downloaded it and played a game with the mavs

ok the gameplay is slower, thats fine , less tos, dunks, steals, points ...
thats ok, the team stats seems to be more realistic thats also fine, but
how about size?

while the playerratings are lower size matters now even more
i quickly recognized in the game that bradley 7`6 is now better
than dirk for my team...
bradley finished with 45points on 75fg%
yes team stats become more realistic, but...

Entire Game Sacramento Dallas

Points 135 145
Bench Scoring 41 67
Field Goals 52/101 62/101
Field Goal % .515 .614
3 Point FG 10/33 0/2
3 Point % .303 .000
Free Throws 21/33 21/29
Free Throw % .636 .724
Rebounds 38 46
Off. Rebounds 6 9
Def. Rebounds 32 37
Blocks 5 13
