Thanks for understanding the joke and violating rules, francis... always nice to see people act friendly.

Phillipinos

Fri Nov 22, 2002 8:47 am

The Phillipino people are a great people, and friends of America. They helped US pilots in the second world war, and Phillipino workers maintain a special status with our president in the White House.

But why would a group of Phillipinos who seem to know english, on a general use message board, maintain an entire thread that most people can't understand?

Who is rude? Those who post saying they don't understand, or those who make posts that can't be understood by most people?

Filipino thread

Fri Nov 22, 2002 8:55 am

we apologize ignatu if you find us Filipinos rude by posting messages in a thread purely in our native language but in a message board dominated mostly by Americans, we are glad and excited to know that there are many Filipinos posting messages as well. Is it bad to express our views in a language that we feel comfortable with? No offense but this is just a message board, from the subject itself, you should have understood that its of a different language so why spend your time griping about a language you do not understand? In this thread, we discuss places where we could buy cheaper game controllers or where to get a copy of Live 2003 in the Philippines, would you know those places if in case we speak in English as well? If you don't understand the messages in this thread, please just leave and try looking through other threads.

Nothing personal man, just a reminder.

Ok ok, let me enlighten you on this dear...

1. We citizens of the Philippines are generally a language-loving people, just like a host of others... French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, etc. This is a basis for having a certain bond that unites us... makes it somewhat like a family.

2. Who started who? Unless there's someone to object, it is I who started this thing. I saw some thread back then from a fellow countryman asking a technical issue. No offense but his english is terrible, and i know some guys out here make a mockery out of it. So out of courtesy, I answered him in our native tongue. And lo and behold, dozens came along. The next thing I knew, this thread has been posted already... and a lot of replies too.

3. A bit of lesson in our native language... the Philippines is the name of the country. Its citizens are called Filipinos, not Philippinos (sounds like the people from Caesarea and Philippi). An individual is called Filipino, which incidentally is also the name of our language. And lastly, we go ourselves as Pinoys (Pee-noys), like Joes for Americans.

4. By the way, the rules didn't say anything about using English as THE mode of communication here, but if the admin says otherwise, we'll gladly comply, right peeps? (So let's refresh our english grammars... )

Got it? Good!

ei pinoys! :) for those who are still having some problem with their video cards, esp the nba2003.exe error, i got rid of it last night and now the game runs fine in my pc although there's still some choppiness in the game...if you want, you are free to try the things i did to make the game work in my system and i hope the tips could help you!

still can't win a game...hehe although i only got beaten at the last quarter because of the cpu's fastbrakes...and also bec of the choppiness, i find if hard to defend agianst a player driving to the basket...also it's really i nice feeling that i can now block dunks and layups which makes the game more exciting for me...btw, does anyone here knows how to make the plauers walk? thanks and peace bros! :)

Fri Nov 22, 2002 3:47 pm

4. By the way, the rules didn't say anything about using English as THE mode of communication here, but if the admin says otherwise, we'll gladly comply, right peeps? (So let's refresh our english grammars... )

The reason we don't specify English in our rules is that it would be wrong to deny you or anyone from a country where English is not the national language the right to speak languages other than English in the forum. English is of course the preferred language since the NLSC is in English (btw the site is actually Australian-run, not American-run, but that's of little importance really). However, there is no need for rules against languages other than English.

That said, the reason some people take offense is that when you speak in a language other than English, since not everyone is fluent in that language you could pretty much say whatever you want - insult people and violate the Forum Rules and whatnot, because we can't understand.

Also, we'd like to know what you're talking about, because if you're talking about something interesting, then we'd probably like to join in. English is the preferred language because those of us in English speaking countries are usually too ignorant to learn other languages - or they simply aren't widely taught. Because English is usually taught as a second language around the world, a lot of people know enough to get by.

Please do not worry about spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. Most of the time, we'll know what you mean. Besides, most of us in English speaking countries rarely use perfect English most of the time anyway.

sorry

Sat Nov 23, 2002 12:03 am

Um english guys we are only talking about where to get controllers in a more cheaper price in our country and where to get live 2003 in our country and we are not doing anything bad or backstabbin someone here we just feel more comfortable talkin to each other in our own dialect.. thats it ok!! by the way mga pareng pinoy pede ba ung riva tnt na lang ung bilhin ko saka dapat ba talaga akong mag win xp???? last na tong ranong hehehehehe gud lakkkkkkk!

Sat Nov 23, 2002 12:04 am

tnx for clarifying everything andrew and on behalf of other filipinos here in the forum and those who posted in this thread, well we wanted to apologize for speaking our language without taking into consideration other posters in the forum.

i know my fellow filipinos will comply to the rules now since it was already clarified by you. right people? well, i know i myself speaks english terribly so i hope other posters would try to understand what i'm saying as well as other filipones who has the same problem as mine.

btw, based on what i read in this thread, people are just talking about where they can find and buy the game, some problems they are encountering with the game, also where to find stuff like gamepads, etc...

thanks again andrew! :)

Sat Nov 23, 2002 12:22 am

andrew don't worry about the pilipinos here because they only want to know where can he find the games and a lot of stop by the way my fellow filipinos ok lng kung galing s mura yan lam nyo n yun basta mahalaga magkaisa tyong mga filipino s paglalaro ng nbalive2003 at ska ang advice ko syo huwag k nalang magxp kung hindi yan orig ksi kailangan i update mo yung xp s service pack1 at hindi k makaupdate kung hindi yan orig kya suggest ko syo try win2000 and update the service pack3 and ur games is run smooth just like me :D

Andrew is right. You all should write in English language so everone can understand what the hell you guys are saying. It might be useful to all of the people in this forum. Anyway, i didn't know this site runs by Australian before. :D I thought it was an American site. C YA

Sat Nov 23, 2002 3:20 am

As for the Filipinos, you should continue speaking in your language if it's more comfortable. If moronic United States Citizens come in here with their idiocracy and insult you, you could notify one of the three great mods via PM, while ignoring them in the thread going about your way speaking in your own language about your own stuff. I mean...you made your own thread to segregate yourselves.

Also, don't believe that they're just interested in what you're saying...they aren't...they just don't like it because they can't understand you. If they want to talk about gamepads, they can do it in one of the 800 English threads on the topic...
