Mike Bibby, from the top to a flop

I'm in the second season of my NYK-franchise, 4x9 minutes, All-star, tweaked roster. I conducted some trades in the first season and acquired Mike Bibby whose stats were really good. But as soon as the second season started he only had poor performances...he missed the last 7 layups or something...his ratings dropped by 2 (overall)...

Season 1 --- Season 2:
PPG 11,20 --- 8,25
MPG 23,80 --- 18,94
FG% 44,0 --- 32,7
3% 33,3 --- 21,4
RPG 2,35 --- 1,88
SPG 1,30 --- 0,81
APG 9,15 --- 7,63
TPG 2,90 --- 3,50

Now J. Dixon is my starting PG and he is really awesome, fast and makes his shots.

How does the computer decide if a player plays a great season? Are there some factors or variables or is it just luck? I don't know Bibby's FG rating now but I have players who hit more than 50% of their shots with lower FG ratings...and he keeps on missing most of his shots. Are some variables set "Player will have bad season"? What can I do with Mike Bibby, I think it is just pure luck and he could play well again next season...but there are really players who have ALWAYS bad stats, C. Weatherspoon, for example, no matter if played with him in Live 99, 00 or 03, he just missed loads of easy shots and I had to trade him every franchise I started.
