Resolution & XP

Postby Ruff Ryder on Tue Sep 23, 2003 8:50 am

Can someone tell me how fast your pc has to bee to play Live at maxed out detail or close to it?
(Sorry if the posts has been made somewhere.)

And is it possible to make live 2003 work on xp?

Live 2003 already works fine on XP.

I suggest a Pentium 4 2.8C or an Athlon XP 2800+ and a Radeon 9700pro or Radeon 9800pro. You should be able to run it fine at 1280x1024 with max details @ around 60fps if not more.

Will it work at high resolution on a 650? Or good enough to make it look decent?

It really depends.
Some people can't stand anything less than 30fps. Some people don't mind playing the game at 15fps.

So to answer your question:
yes it will work at a high resolution provided your graphics card can display it at that resolution and also support all the details (ie. dx8.1 compliant). But there's no guarantee it won't run like a slide-show.

hmmm..beats me!..never tried the game on a computer quite that slow before.
it depends on your graphics card and whether you have a celeron, pentium, or duron. If you got a decent graphics card you can MAYBE play at 1024x768 since normally a fast card can make up SOME of the difference and allow a higher resolution at a lower performance hit.

But if you have something crappy like a Geforce2mx or a TnT2, then i'd stay at 800x600 or even 640x480.

honestly, if you have a 650mhz pc, i'm betting the graphics card isn't too hot either. I need more info, and in the end it's up to you to decide whether or not the game is playable. The BEST thing you should do, is go to easports.com and download the demo and give it a try!

Ok. Thanks for the help. I'm gettin it for free so i might as well use it. But it says minimum system requirements are 450 mhz so i was wondering. This pc i'm usin is 500 mhz. The card is a voodoo 3 but i think i need to upgrade.

Ok you'll be in trouble with the voodoo3. I'm not even sure if all the textures will display properly within the game. I used to have a 3dfx Voodoo 1 and the textures in Live 2001 wouldn't display properly with it because 3dfx went dead and never got the chance to put out drivers which were directX6 compliant..nevermind the fact that live 2003 requires directx8.1.

But definitely you should try to upgrade your machine a bit. You won't be able to get by with that thing for much longer if you intend to play any games...in fact i'm really surprised you've been able to get by with that thing at all for games! :)

Well, i havent played any real new games on it. I played madden 2001 and a bunch of C&C games but this machine was fast then. I could run madden at high resolution.

Well my dad has a new pc a pentium 4 i think. 2 ghz. I might have to see if i can use that. Or else i'll stick to ps2.

Yeah good idea. Console versions are good if you don't have a fast enough system. ;)
