Help with editing using MS Excel

Postby Ghettorific on Wed Nov 27, 2002 9:07 pm

Hi, I want to try to edit my players.dbf file using MS Excel (I dont have the other programs, nor do i know where to go to get them). Anyways, how do I go about inputting the formulas in order to change the values of certain categories.

Example: I'd like to globally change the blocking category.. so in excel i go to the column that corresponds, and below it it has the values for each player listed. What do I type and where would i type it if I wanted to divide every number in that category by two.

I hope someone can understand this post, and provide me with some help. Response appreciated.

Correct me if i am wrong
I think Excel cannot change the cell values by circular references
(eg. A1 = A1/2)

I suggests you download the DBF viewer PRO to global edit the roster, but it would be a little bit difficult to use if you dunno computer programming.

BTW, i edited the block rating of all players to MIN, but the opposite guards still blocking a lot. :x

But i found that if i lowered the jump rating, there will be lesser blocks

use copy and paste special as described here:

It is actually quite easy and I am getting close to real stats by:

reducing all FG by 30
all 3P by 10
all block by 40
all speed and quinkness by 30
all jump by 30
all dunk by 30

now I am gettting scores in the 90-100 (on 9 min qtrs) shooting in the 45-55% range (still a little too high)

rebounds are up in the 40+ range and blocks down to the 10-20 range

I think you guys might want to check the rest of the .dbf files. They have some very interesting stuff. For example, the rtgxref or whatever it's called seems to be a table either defining, or simply stating the relation between a rating and it's result.

For example: How many offensive rebounds, in average, a 97 OFFREB player will grab per 80 games. I haven't tried messing with that file, but it's not merely a consultation table and really a definition... well, you an simply lower those numbers instead of toiling over the 300+ players...

We should post more stuff we learn about the .dbf files. They are our best hope of tuning the game like we want. And a great idea. Congrats to EA on that. Just make sure you explain it to the Madden guys :(

And next time... it would be really nice to sort players by any category during the draft for example. Really useful. It's annoying to have to open a bunch of PF to see what backup PF you should draft if you need someone with good defense and good reb (to cover up for you awful center).
