taking other peoples patches...

hey, i saw a site some time ago with three of my shoes and many, many other shoes by other patchers, but i didn't realy care...
then he posted em' at this site as his own, i still didn't care. and by now he's released two more colorways as his own...,
now i wonder what could you do about this, scinse none can have copyright on such stuff...?

now i don't meen to wajn (:wink:) or anything, but i meen; he can use it as long as he asks and maybe gives credit for it..., but if he posts it's his own?
and there was that whole thing over at nbalive.org with trailblazer that had like a 70-80 shoes that none of em were his and he didn't give any credit or anything...

anyway's... what do you guys think you should do about stuff like that

Its wrong...just plain wrong to take someones work and republish it without their permission
I dont think it is a big deal if you want to rework a patch for your own private consumption. But certainly not to put it out to the world at large without their consent is wrong.

On that note as well, you have to respect the patchers work and effort into making the patch and then if they dont want their stuff messed with ya gotta respect that.

Complex issue because you don't have the copyright on the material you used to create the patch (ie the photos), but anything you publish on the web is automatically protected by copyright. You can't use other people's work without their permission, and then you must give them credit.

You could approach the person who is doing this and politely ask them to stop re-releasing other patches as their own. You might want to get together with the other patchmakers who have had their work stolen, and have one person send an email on behalf of the group.

Legal action is much too extreme, but you could also report the situation to his host's legal/copyright team. Even free hosts such as Yahoo! Geocities have a department that handles these complaints.

sq322 is right, it's fine to mix and match patches or modify them for your own private use. However, the modified files must not be distributed, even if you leave the author's name on the patch.

Basically, stealing patches is not tolerated in the NBA Live community, and if I find that someone has submitted a patch that is stolen, I will remove it and any other patch the person has submitted. You're within your rights to be upset about stolen work, and to look for a resolution to the matter.

i don't feel that you have to delete the paches that he posted at this site, i will try to contact him and see if he as aware that you can't do stuff like that (:roll:). Although do you think that i should contact all the other patchmakers that has their work 'stolen' aswell before mailing him?
