Custom All-Star Team

Thu May 01, 2003 6:34 pm

Since the league I'm playing in is having it's All-Star weekend from today on and we want to play with out self-voted teams, I'd need some quick advise on this problem.

Is it possible to get other players compete in the All-Star game than the ones set by EA?

Hope to get some advise soon, 'cause it won't work out with my Toolkit.
TIA!

It's a fairly simple, but lengthy process - there's two ways of editing the All-Star teams to suit your needs.

METHOD 1:

Overwrite the current All-Stars with new data.

This can be accomplished simply by saving two copies of the roster you wish to edit. It also requires the use of DB Commander. You can use the Toolkit or any other editor of your choice, but DB Commander is much quicker and easier to use for this method.

In the left window, open the copy you wish to edit. In the right window, open the other copy.

Find the players on the All-Star team. There are a couple of entries for players who are on the All-Star team. One for their regular NBA team, and one for the All-Star team (players on Decade All-Star teams and the Legends Pool have additional entries). You can check to see if you're editing the correct instance of the player by checking the TEAM field. Make sure the value in this field is either 30 or 31 (East or West All-Stars respectively).

Locate the new player's data in the right hand window, and then (manually) copy the data over the player you wish to replace in the left window. However, do NOT copy the PLAYERID or PLAYERVALUE fields. Leave them as they are.

By copying all the ratings, bio data and pointers to the graphics files, you can effectively replace a player on the All-Star team. However, he will use the old player's career stats. You can get around this by editing career.dbf if you wish.

METHOD 2:

Create new players, give them the appropriate player data, move them to the All-Star team, and delete the old All-Stars.

Again, I recommend using DB Commander for this method, but you can use any other editor you wish. DB Commander, because of its ability to open two seperate files at once, makes the process much quicker and easier.

First, create some new, "blank" players. Give them the names of the players you wish to add to the All-Star teams.

In DB Commander, open the two copies of saved roster files mentioned before. This time, you will be overwriting the data of the newly created players with the data of the players you wish to make All-Stars, but the procedure is the same.

After you have done that, use the Toolkit for the next part, if possible. Move the All-Stars you wish to delete to the Free Agent Pool. Also, change their Created attribute to True (check the box). Now, move the new All-Stars to the All-Star teams. Use the Toolkit's roster re-ordering feature to fix up the lineups.

Now enter the game, re-load the roster, and go to the Created Players List. The former All-Stars you set as being created players will now appear on the list. You can now delete these players from the database by using the Delete Player button.

Hope this helps. :)
