nvidia (geforce4 mx) or ati (radeon 8500le +)?

Mon Mar 10, 2003 3:41 am

okay guys, graphic-wise, i.e., quality and framerate and smoothness, which card is better?

geforce 4mx or ati radeon 8500le or higher?

i'm trying to decide b/w these two cards. i've seen it better in quality for the geforce 4mx, but the benchmarks indicate better framerates for the ati radeon 8500le.

these are my specs:

amd athlon xp 1700+
512 mb ddr ram
asus a7v-266e mb
soundblaster x-gamer 5.1
80 gb (total) ibm hd (2 physical 40 gb hd's)
win xp pro sp1

thanks in advance...

Definitely do NOT.
The 8500LE is faster than both the radeon 9000 AND the radeon 9000 Pro..despite Ati's confusing nomenclature. Image quality btwn the two is negligable.

As for whether to get the geforce4mx or the 8500LE, if I were you I would definitely get the 8500LE.
Image quality for both cards are on par with one another, and the 8500LE is definitely faster than the geforce4mx460 by a little. IMHO, the best budget card out right now is the Radeon 8500LE/9100. But, if you can spend a little more i'd recommend the geforce4 ti4200. Still an excellent card.

exactly, do NOT get the radeon 9000/pro

benchmarks CLEARLY shows that the 8500 series smashes the radeon 9000 series - just look anywhere.

thanks for the info guys. i've decided to stick with the 8500le and return the asus geforce 4 mx 440-8x 64 mb card. i love the radeon - it's got much better framerates and i just can't beat the deal i got on it ($130CAD) compared to the $199CAD. the 8500le falls behind the geforce ti 4200, but i wasn't planning to spend that much on a video card.

thanks again....

I'm a Nvidia fan.

Grab an Nvidia with 128mb on it and you'll have a monster of a system.

I personally recommend the 8500le as this is what I run in my system. I purchased my 128MB DDR Radeon 8500le a few months back and it is an excellent card. I have been able to run any game at the highest resolution with minimal skips in frameplay. It also helps that you have a great system too :!:

Here are my specs

Pentium 4 2.26GHz
512MB DDR RAM
ECS motherboard
140G (total) I have a 60G & 80G ATA-100 7200rpm
WinXP Pro
