Discussion about NBA Live 2003.

Trading, etc, in a franchise with tweaked ratings.

Postby donkey33 on Wed Apr 09, 2003 2:33 pm

I am using a tweaked roster (Can't remember which one) and some modifications have been done to it anyway so I can try to really reflect NBA stats.

I'm the Pacers and they are rated 6th overall in the game (When I go to play now) but when I sim a season to see how I'll go, I'm lucky to get to 38-39 wins for the season.

Now, I know this has something to do with the overall ratings. The teams overall rating is based on the players overall ratings but I've read that players overall ratings are not a good guide to go by because of the tweaked rosters.

So, really my question is, I'm looking to improve my team. What should I really look at when I'm looking to go for a trade.

Is there any way to really tell a players worth by looking at their raw ratings or should all trades I'm thinking about be checked out a measured through their individual ratings first and just not even use their overall ratings as a guide.

Thanks

The most simple answer is, unfortunately, don't use tweaked rosters for Franchise Mode. It makes it a lot more difficult to handle transactions and get satisfactory simulated results.

So there's no real answer. The results don't worry me really that much. I more interested in knowing how trades can be evaluated, etc...I'm more or less simulating a season with tweaked ratings to understand this. Playing with these ratings doesn't matter really.

How can ratings like blocks and steals be worked around. A center has a block rating of 57 compared to a guard rating of 50. Only 7 difference so it effects sim games drammaticly.

im not too sure what ur are asking but.... i simulated with normal roster and what i found was in the first few years the Lakers wee getting GM of the year with 75 wins of more, also their scoring was well balances, they had 2 players on 30+ 2 on about 15 and one on 10..... sometme su can get the same but not win as many games, u just have to see what works. if ur simulating and want a good player, dont trade his coz his 86 and some other guys is 83, chack hw mcuh per game they score. u can have players like tim thomas who when simulating scores amybe 14 ppg when his something liek 89!!! see what i mean

It's basically impossible, since the overall ratings are messed up. If you play a Franchise with tweaked rosters, you play at your own risk. Trades and free agency are too greatly affected.

Basically, there's no real work-around. The tweaked rosters are designed for improved gameplay, and are not optimised for Franchise Mode. You basically have to choose between erroneous/incorrect simulated results, or tweaked gameplay.

Yeah, I see what your getting at and understand. I guess there really is no way to evaluate really how good a player is using tweaked rosters in franchise mode.

Or if there is, it's hard to find out how.

That's basically it. It would be good if we could develop tweaks that improved the gameplay while still being suitable for Franchise Mode, but no one's been successful thus far.

What about just rating players when making a change in season mode. I know franchise doesn't work with tweaked rosters but when you decide you want someone from another team and trade for them, how do you rate them because the overall ratings arn't correct.

Is it just by stats or by the individual ratings or is there some formula, etc..

Yeah, you could judge their performance by their statistics/style of play etc, but it will be harder to trade for them, since the game calculates the fairness of trades using the overall rating.
