Controller Issues....A new problem as far as I can tell!!

Thu Nov 14, 2002 8:58 am

I open Live 2003, and go to start a game. My Sidewinder Gamepad Pro shows up, but then like 20 seconds into the game, I lose the ability to move the players. I go to controller options and all it shows is the keyboard. The Sidewinder shows up in the game options as being OK. It is a somewhat old sidewinder, that is not USB, and has the port on top of the controller to hook up several controllers together. The Sidewinders work with everything else. Any idea how to fix this? :?:

I have to be honest with you; I am a Keyboard guy. So... sorry. Can someone else help him out.

Does it happen in any other games?

I use the Sidewinder USB and I have had no problems like that...I also have the Sidewinder like yours, but I decided it was time to go to USB about a month or two ago.

Sounds more like a hardware problem though and not a software problem.

try updating your soundcard drivers. Since its the gameport, you may want to get a new soundcard if your's is really old - That used to happen to me back in the NHL 97 days. It would work then stop.

how does the souncard have to do with this?

cause your soundcard has a gameport to which your gamepad might be connected to...

I dont think I even have a sound card. My sound is built into my motherboard. The gameport comes out of a yellow thing, that is directly into the motherboard.

The Sidewinder Gamepad Pro, works flawlessly with every other game I have used. It isn't the newest gamepad, but windows XP recognizes it just fine.

I have the exact same problem with my sidewinder gamepad. Works perfectly when I enter the game I select it when in the menu's however once I hit the court its gone. When I go to controller settings after that it doesn't even exist anymore. (the gamepad works fine with all my other games ie. madden 2003 etc)

I'm using a soundblaster 64 PCI sound card and windows xp.

Exactly

That is 100% the exact problem I am having. Glad to know it isn't a problem with my machine, and it is a problem with the game. I tried talking to EA Sports on their website but they were ni help at all and just gave me run-around.

well I downloaded the Demo to see if the same problem happened there. And no, it didnt. The demo worked famously. Any ideas?

i have the same sidewinder and xp and it works great for me no problems

me too!

Same exact problem, except I can generally play fine. I'll say 1 out of 5 times my controller will randomly stop responding. Non USB Sidewinder, Win XP, no problems in any other games including other EA Sports 2003 games. EA better fix this!

It happens to me also, not a lot but usually when I have like 4 controllers pluged in.
