It's been a problem with Franchise Mode since the beginning - sometimes you can get bored with your team very quickly, which means starting from scratch again and again.
If you want to progress through Franchise Mode quickly, you pretty much have to play 28 game seasons, and play around 5 games per day. You can get through the games more quickly if you choose to play with shorter quarters, which some people prefer due to the high scores anyway.
I really think that Franchise Mode is really intended to be simulated in part. In other words, a couple of meaningless games here and there can be simulated, just so you can get through the season more quickly. Otherwise, getting through a couple of seasons will take too long, let alone 25 years.
That said, I prefer to play every game, at least in the first year. You could always simulate most of the season, playing only important or must-win games, the All-Star game, and of course, the playoffs. You'd get through the season fairly quickly that way, too.
