Discussion about NBA Live 2003.

Does anyone know what to edit in the dbf files for the created players names to be announced. For example, I created a player named John Bryant, why doesn't they announced the name bryant since there are already players in the named with the last name bryant.

If you use a correctly spelled surname that's in the game, Don Poier will say "Over to (surname)", however the PA announcer will still call the player by his number.

in my game he calls lebron number 23 and not james and anthony the same thing, calls by number.

Happens to me too. Although I think it's because of adding the lebron patch.

If you have installed the LeBron James patch, then chances are you've switched his ISCREATED attribute to False, meaning the game recognises him as an original, non-created player. Therefore, the announcer will not say James (although I don't think there's another player in the game with the surname James anyway).
Same deal with the Carmelo Anthony patch.

jerome james....? sounds nba to me....but not sure.

Forgot about Jerome.

At any rate, setting it so that LeBron James is not a created player will cause the game to treat him as an original player without the necessary audio file, meaning he'll just have his number called. Same with Anthony.

You can have a patch for a created player and get him called by his surname, at least it works for me.
I think it must be this:
with a toolkit remove the spot on it's CREATED, and then mark the field FACE PATCH.

Hey Bru, I tried your method on LeBron James but it didn't work. What players (last names) did you get it to work for?
Wed May 28, 2003 12:41 pm
You might be able to get it to work if you use the following method:
1. Leave the player as being created (ISCREATED=TRUE/Created box ticked).
2. Leave his created PLAYERPKG (eg AAAAAA)
3. Rename all files eg LEJAMES.FSH AAAAAA.FSH (where AAAAAA is the created PLAYERPKG). Also rename the folder in /render to match the PLAYERPKG.
4. The created player should be using the custom art files while still being recognised as created, hence his last name will be called if its in the game.
Please note, I have not tried this method, but I'm informed that custom art will still work this way.

It works, for shoes and practice jerseys at least. When I was getting my personnal cyberface I made some saving errors and I changed the playerpkg to mine, then I noticed the error in saving and didn't change back.

ok, I think i got it working, it has something to do with the blank fields, the false and the #####. I didn't find which data exactly was.
Here is an excel file were the only player that won't have his audio is Adam Harrington, compare it with the others

You can open the dbf files with excel and then modify them.
Note: there are only ratings for Ken Johnson and Smush Parker (originally from Zaxis roster), for the others there aren't even vital statics, but I bet you can put it with Excel or a Toolkit.

Sat May 31, 2003 9:18 pm
r u shure thats how u do it, coz i did that an d all i have is The answer in the nickname space??

The NICKNAME field is simply a text field for the View Player screen. As far as I'm aware, the game does not recognise pre-existing nicknames - they are part of the individual player audio file. In other words, nicknames cannot be assigned without the original player's name and player specific comments also being assigned.
