jersey installer v1.1 released!

Sat Mar 22, 2003 4:43 am

Hey everybody, I've been working on a program that quickly and easily installs new jerseys that can be chosen at the jersey selection screen. It automatically edits the teamgear.dbf file to include the new jersey. All the user will have to do is load it up, enter a little information and click go.

Still working on it, its still in concept mode. I have the file editing functions done, just working on the GUI. Tell me if you think this is a good idea or a waste of my time.

Nice, man... I've got a lotta retro jerseys I wanna install but I'm too lazy to edit all my 13 or so dbfs... Really looking forward to release...

Yeah, that's what im talking 'bout. I can't wait till this prog comes out.

It's good to see all the positive feedback. Currently I am working on making this program "user friendly". I have already used it to add a new jersey for my franchise.

Would it be ok if I released it where you tell it where the teamgear.dbf file is and it adds the jersey there? I'm not sure of a way to make it scan through and add it to every teamgear.dbf. I think I will release it first where you tell it where teamgear is, and then maybe come out with a version 2 where it adds to every teamgear. With the premier release all the user will have to do is create a roster, tell the program the number of the roster, and it will do stuff accordingly.

Sorry I can't be more clear, I'm not very good at putting what I think into words. How bout I finish the GUI and post a few screenshots.

Qweeeeeeeeeeeeet....i mean sweeeeeeeeeet...!

Sounds good mate...releasing 2 versions sounds like the best thing to do...

Question: Can you add the jerseys to any custm teams that you have?

Sun Mar 23, 2003 8:39 am

BTW mad_game there will not be any batch files, or folder creation. All that will have to be done is to put the jersey files into the folder with the exe and the program will do the rest.

Deft, you will have to edit every dbf as of right now, until i figure out how to do ALL teamgear.dbfs at once. Although this will be much easier anyway because all you have to is change the directory in the program and click "go". You won't have to input the information every time.

Currently the file size of the exe is 88kb.

As of right now.. no.
I was planning on putting a list of the regular teams in a drop down box, so it would be more "user friendly".

If you'd like though i could leave it as a text box and you guys just have to know the team id number... this would save me time in the long run AND allow you to use custom teams... what would you guys like?

Sun Mar 23, 2003 9:15 am

I think you should go with the user-friendly version... although i know what the teamID is, most people don't.

Is there any way you could do both? like before you start the program...it asks you the question?
Just an

All sounds very promising so far... can't wait

Sun Mar 23, 2003 9:38 am

When can we expect this program to be released?

Can you put out BETA version this weekend?

Sun Mar 23, 2003 11:54 am

Sorry metaphysical, chances are it probably won't be out this weekend (although I wish it could be)

Right now I'm using a "shareware" compiler that pops an annoying messagebox whenever you start a program... I have to wait until I recieve windows XP in the mail before I can compile it properly. Second, I still have some work to do on it.

Nick, I've decided just to go with the textbox where you enter your own team id, because it saves time and trouble for me and most users. For those who aren't sure what it is, I'm going to include a list of all the common teams in the included readme file.

I can't tell you when I will be finished (I have a lot on my plate right now, with school, volunteering etc) but I promise to keep this thread alive with constant updates of my progress.

Keep those suggestions and questions a comin!
:o  :D

NP td3ph...

Just so you guys don't forget about this project, I'm going to try and post a screenshot of what I go so far as soon as I can.

Right now I can add a new jersey with custom year, name(eg cl02), team number, and I can say where the teamgear.dbf is stored. Still adding support for changing accesory colour, shoe colour, etc.

So I'll try and put up a screenshot soon.

:P :P :P
Hey guys I just made a lot of progress on the jersey installer.

Enough progress that i could actually INSTALL a jersey!!!! :D

So I made a little webpage with information and a few screenshots.

Hope this keeps you guys interested.

Mon Mar 24, 2003 1:45 am

BTW Nick, I just had a brainwave...

If a user knows enough about DBF editing that he can make a custom team... he will definitely know the number of his team! So I'm just going to include a list of all the teams and their numbers in the readme.. that way newbies can just check the list, while power users can add them to their custom team as well.

Mon Mar 24, 2003 5:32 am

I hope you guys are looking at my screenshot to see what the prog looks like and get some info... just to tell you I have added drop down boxes for every bit of info such as accessory colour, shoe etc. The program should be ready soon after I finish initial testing. How soon I cannot say, as soon as possible.

If you want to know the site of the screenshot again, its
http://himheru.tripod.com/jersinstall.htm

Please look at it and tell me what you think!
When I finish adding the support for accessory colour etc I will try and post another screenshot.

Mon Mar 24, 2003 5:58 am

Man you gotta release this SOON!

Mon Mar 24, 2003 6:27 am

a little tip - you should put the team names in the place of the team IDs
