Stepback-move does not work as it should

Hi!
I got Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual analog 2....when I pass to a player and he gets the ball, I can just hold the ball up behind....ONLY when I fake a shot or run / dribble, the player does the step back when I push the right analog down...
But some guys I challenged online could do it immediately! They brought the ball with the PG, passed to the SG...stepback...shot...
They didn't fake or dribble...
It is really annoying when I have to dribble, even if it is only a step...because often the player changes his direction and does the step not back, away from the basket, but left or right or somewhere....
When a player reveives the ball, he can do some moves....NOT the stepback...ONLY when I fake or dribble, then he can do some other moves....step back can only be done, when I can also do spinmove and crossover with the freestyle control.
Any ideas?
