Free agent signing

I just finished the season as champs and am trying to sign free agents. However, whenever I try to sign free agents that have a high rating (like Jason Kidd) the sign free agent button is disabled. Why? Is there a way to solve this?

Do you have enough CAP space to sign these high rated players?
