Huge Performance boost Playing Live 2003 Under Windows XP

Postby Stevish on Mon Nov 18, 2002 3:13 am

here are my specs

AMD Athlon 2000 xp
256mb DDR 400 RAM
Geforce4 Ti4400
Maxtor 80GB 7200rpm ATA 133 HD
Sound Blaster Audigy

Previously I was playing Live 03 on Win ME, and with everything to Max settings 1024x768x16 all I could get was a 25-30FPS average on my rig. Couple days ago I installed Win XP on a dual boot configuration, installed
Live 03 and Fraps to test out Live's performance in XP.
Under the same detail settings and resolution I got 30-40FPS(all to Max) in XP opposed to 25-30 in ME, I did a little more testing and turned down the detail level to Medium, which is what I use in ME, this is where the true difference took place, I get an average of 30-40 in ME but under XP I got a FPS of around 70FPS. This almost doubles the frame rate. Now I play in High detail setting playing at around 38-52 FPS but rarely going below 40.
I used both the Press Cam and the Baseline Low cam(both in default zoom) to test these settings, with the press cam getting a +2~3fps more than the baseline cam. Moreover, when I was testing in XP i had both MSN messenger and Norton Antivirus 2002 running in the background a long with some other little programs such as Logitech iTouch and MouseWare to simulate the true enviornment which I usually game in.
I am quite satisfied in the perfromance that Live can deliver under WinXP. So if you're still playing live in ME or 98, take my word for it and switch over to XP.

i only got a p3 and winME, but adequate enough

my mediocre specs is fine enough for my live '03...

pentium III 600 MHz
Asus 50x CD-ROM Drive
NVidia TNT2 32 MB Video Card
Creative Vibra 128 Sound Card
128 MB SDRAM
Seagate 6400 RPM 10 GB HD

a friend of mine told me that my specs are sufficient enough to run Live 03 with MEDIUM detail settings. but the trick he said was to switch to XP to maximize the capabilities and resources of my pc. haven't tried it though so i'll still wait for that friend of mine to let me borrow his xp cd.

hope it works...

by the way, i'm running on LOW detail settings right now... smooth enough. i just uninstalled all the other games in my pc...
