bchogan and others!found out the toronto court prob

Postby Lenkbron on Wed Feb 12, 2003 10:19 am

i think i found out why your high-res raptors court crashed on some computers!or better why the computers crashed and it was not the prob of your court!it´s not your court, but the other addons.let´s explain:the files which cause the crash are the accesoires and the face files!!!my game also crashed and i recognized the different size of files, both of acc and face.there were some face files with a size of about 40 to 60 kb and of about 130 kb (the same with acc:about 260 the small and 500 to 700 the big)and if there where too many of those big combined by the two teams playing-it went back to desktop!for example the game crashed when i played indiana at toronto.i resized all face and acc files to the smaller size and the game works excellent now-with your court!!!
so all those who´s game is crashing try to lower the size so that all files have nearly the same size and you´ll see it works!
and bchogan you can continue to make your high res courts, because it looks excellent!
and maybe all the face and patchmakers can make their files in the same size like devastator and tony... so that no more crashing concerning this problem will occour in the future!!!

hope that helps

thanks a lot to all you patchmakers who make this game enjoyable

when u reduce the size of face files the resolution will decrease, so u have to think twice b4 changing face files resolutions.. however acc file sizes can be reduced in size without changing its resolution, but its qualityu may decreased coz' i have to decrease the colour depth... all my acc files are less than 100 kb in size  use the skin file stored in the xplyrcmn.viv or something like that.. u can't use eagraph to install the image, u muz use fshtool.. nevertheless, hi-res courts and whatever hi-res patches play a part in increasing the memory used in the game and therefore when it reaches the limit the game crashes.. IMHO bchogan i think u should remake all ur high-res courts to normal-res coz' high-res courts tend to use up more memory than high-res faces..

I have the same problem...I have just updated my All-Star roster and court.....and the game crashes  .......I am using BC hogans high res All-Star court (Its hot by the way :D ) and if you updated your All-Star Roster many of the players if not all have face and skin patches so this causes my game to crash because of the overload....I don't know what to do... ......Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for all the info, guys. That could explain why my game crashes soemtimes, too. I'll take all this into consideration when I make & update my court patches. It's still my hope to have high quality patches that everyone can use, and not have to release multiple versions.

btw, i dont think the crash has anything to do with the courts.
it is all about the filesizes
mine crashes when i play on an unpatched home court if i have to many players with updates on the two teams combined
example
Orlando @ Minnesota

Maybe I should just have an install program with the courts, so that the courts don't have to be loaded from the render sub-folders. This might lower the amount of graphical data that has to be loaded and prevent the crashes.
BTW, my All-Star court is not high-res. It was done using the same exact format as the original court's graphics, because I thought that would keep it from causing crashes. I did use Oedit and a hex editor to change the o file, though.

i did the following:i took the one of the big files-opened it with eagraph and saved the image as bmp-then i opened a small file (i took the 43kb fsh which tony etc use)and imported the image with import wizard-then renamed the fsh.
ok, it could cauze a little decrease of the quality, but come on you don´t see anything in the game (i play 1600*1200)!!!btw i found out that my indiana-toronto game didn´t crash because of the court afterwards, no only because of the faces!!!!!!
so do you want big, high quality face files and you can´t play the game, or a quality decrease you don´t even recognize ingame and a working game?btw, tony´s faces are high quality, or what?and he (and also devastator) have 43kb face files, so all the other patchmakers only have to use this size and the game´s working perfect!!
so mostly it´s not a matter of the courts, but of faces and acc, because you have so much of them!!!

Rey J is working feverishly now on reducing the crashes from his accessories.
Alot of the crashes may have to do with that as well

i do agree with lidstrom..it would be good to see a more uniform size use in all the faces, bands, etc.
but geez....it aint like we are paying the patchers...

that's bcoz' u have a high quality graphics card where ea allows u to read high texture detail.. i am however stuck with a laptop with a shit graphic card and EA only medium tex. res at maximum.. So when i use 43k faces, they dun seem to be as clear as 129k faces.. and the quality is miles apart..
