Bugs list?

Postby - Ace - on Wed Jan 15, 2003 4:16 pm

Is there any place on the forum where everyone can post bugs that occur in the game?

The bugs I've met so far: 1)Called for a defensive foul but a teammate shoots the free throw. 2)On some half court shots, if you check the instant replay some shots just hit the net but the game counts it as a made shot. 3)If you are waiting to inbound the ball and switch control to the other team, you can call time out. 4)Arcade mode seems more like simulation mode and simulation mode seems more like arcade mode.

In the absence of a Technical Issues board, General Issues or the Gripes section would both be appropriate places. (I've found that General Issues/Gripes are both more popular for bug lists anyway)

The game allows substitution after the last made free throw and the team in bounds the ball. This is not allowed in the NBA.

The controls lacks a hard foul button like it used to have, so the human player cannot foul unless using intentional foul where every teammate tries to foul. However, the CPU controlled team does seem to have this button to steal the ball from me al the time.

The stats central players stats menu acts up when scrolling from the beginning column(PTS) to some other location. For instance, it starts out as column 1 being PTS but click and drag it right so that column one now becomes FG% or something else, now scroll back to where PTS should be. On my game, scrolling back to the beginning and what should be the PTS column leaves the first column still displaying FG% or some other random stat column.(but now the scroll bar visually shows it has been scrolled all the way back)

Ditto above with User stats.

CPU always goes for steals on the Defense. Maybe not a bug, but it severely inhibits a consistent defense and often makes for unnecessarily easy baskets.

The inbounder cannot move up and down the baseline after the opposing team scores.

Offensive fouls are not called very often even with them being maxed in the game menus. They appear to be called with a greater frequency against the big men making their post moves.

For some reason their is little team organization involved with inbounding the ball, particularly on one's own end of the court. As opposed to just dribbling the ball upcourt, then it at least appears that the players have some idea what is going on. No one makes any attempt to run through a screen to get open and recieve the inbound pass.(and usually there is little chance to make a clean inbounds becaues the players do little during that time). Now since there are no inbounding plays inplemented, one recourse could be that centers and power forwards should automatically be programmed to set screens for the guards and small forward.

assist and dunking through backboard bug

Postby - Ace - on Mon Feb 17, 2003 2:29 pm

1)If you pass the ball to a teammate and the teammate starts free styling down the lane for a dunk sometimes an assist is incorrectly credited.

2)Sometimes if your player is standing under the basket and dunks, his hand will dunk through the backboard.

3)On some full court / half court shots if you look closely at the instant replay you can see that the ball actually never goes into the basket through the rim but just touches the basket(portion below the rim) but still counts as a basket.

Another biggie: whenever you block a shot, it blocks so hard so it always go out of the bound, so you get a turnover from it.

Blocked shots aren't a bug, you just have to know how to control them. Don't jump forward and swat it just position yourself in front and jump straight up, timing is the key.

Full court shot bug, sometimes the ball clearly goes in but doesn't register and just goes out of bounds, could be very costly if it was a game winning shot.

I have a much more subtle bug in mind. Consider the following situation: oponent has the ball, shot clock is down to three, they shoot, you block, but possibly touch the ball on its way out of bounds. The game counts this as a possession and turnover for you team, which also results in a fresh 24 for the oponent.

It's clear that in any league it wouldn't be counted that way, but the game's model seems to allow this sort of instant touch before going out of bounds implying possession. You've all seen that before, I'm sure, but this is one situation where it's doubly bad (turnover++ and a new 24 for the other team). I imagine that it's irrelevant which team has the ball, too, but as it happened to me while defending, that's how I described it.

Another bug

Postby - Ace - on Mon Mar 03, 2003 12:54 am

If you're standing near the baseline three point line and you pump fake and then dribble towards your defender, sometimes the game will call an out of bounds violation even when the ball doesn't even go out of bounds.

I can't believe you guys didn't mention the most obvious and annoying bug. The "save game failed due to insufficient disk space" bug, is THE single most annoying bug that has caused me to lose 2 seasons worth with my team. Always happens sooner or later, which results in the need for me to backup my saved games. Pathetic.

Another bug:

If you stop your dribble and just stand there with the ball, the opponent can sometimes push you with his body and your feet will move but no travelling violation would be called.

Tap the Playcalling button when you are on defense.
