Rating Players

Postby Bakerinzee on Wed Feb 04, 2004 9:59 pm

Hey,
Question, how do you guys rate the players? Do you look at statics or to stats per 48 minutes? Cause when you rate them by looking at 48 minutes guys like Jahidi White, Dan Gadzuric and Reggie Evans are great rebounders. And I think they deserve great rebounding ratings. The same thing for Damon Jones and Earl Watson with assists Cause the reason they haven't got great stats at normal stats is because they get not enough time from there teams.

There's a reason they don't get that much playing time. Coaches aren't stupid. They know if a player will actually get better numbers given more playing time. Otherwise, Juan Dixon would be one of the leading scorers in the league (he has over 23.8 pp48, but 9.2 ppg.)

I don't use any exact formulas; I prefer to rate players individually, using the default rating system. I check on simulated performance and play a few games to make sure the ratings are accurate. Now that ratings determine simulated stats, it's important to get the balance right between realistic behaviour in gameplay, and realistic simulated stats.

And what about Fred Jones. He's rating 10 with dunking. While he's in the dunking contest this year

The default rating system is based on per 48 minute stats.

The examples he gave were about rebounding and assists though, which is where you should use per 48. White, Gadzuric and especially Evans (who led all PFs last year) are great on the glass, however they do little else, especially Evans. Damon Jones and Earl Watson are racking up the assists, but they don't do much else.

I've upped his rating in preparation for v1.05, but I'll increase it a little more.
