Yeah, yeah, just wait for v2.0. Seriously though, the best sliders for each individual are the ones they tweak for themselves, even if it's from a starting point be it your suggestions, my suggestions or someone else's. (Y)

The shooting foul slider, though you might also want to up the mid-air collision foul slider as well. Also, increasing the reach-in fouls slider will put you both in a penalty situation more often. I've been getting pretty good results with fouls since making changes to those sliders.

Here's a slider set I use to watch a simulation game (CPU vs. CPU) Note that this is not to simulate realism, but it has enough of the defaults to make the game dramatic-looking.

Difficulty: All-Star

Quarters: 12 min

Game Speed: 40
Free Throw Difficulty: 32

Boundary Force Field: 36
Injury Frequency: 50
Fatigue Effect: 46

Charge/Block Foul Frequency 55
Shooting Foul Frequency: 18
Reach-in Foul Frequency: 10
In-air Collision Foul Frequency: 75

CPU Steal Ability: 12
CPU Interception Ability: 10
CPU Shot Block Ability: 0
CPU Dunk/Lay-up Block Ability: 8

CPU Freestyle Effectiveness: 50
CPU Dunk Frequency: 35
CPU Substitution Frequency: 40-60 (depending on how deep you like to go in the bench)
CPU Offensive Rebounding: 40
CPU Defensive Rebounding: 75
CPU Fakeout Discipline: 50
CPU Short Range Shooting: 50
CPU Medium Range Shooting: 50
CPU Long Range Shooting: 50
CPU On-ball Physical Defense
CPU Poor Release Shot Percent
CPU Double-team Effectiveness: 50
CPU Pro-Hop Effectiveness: 81
CPU Drop Step Effectiveness: 81

I'm still pissed at the AI during close games, such as making half-court shots when there's enough time to run up to the 3-pointer line, or passing the ball to your center when you're down by 3 and 4 seconds left to go.... these programming stinkers needs to get fixed.

i find when i try to see cpu vs cpu games there always too many blocks. like the rookie vs sophmore game. when i dont have a player on either side ill just watch the game. 8-)

yeah, there's no way around the blocking issue unless you mod everyone's blocking stat down.

Also the thing about the Shooting Range sliders, they don't indicated the accuracy of the shot going up. I noticed that the sliders actually indicate the probability that the shot will go up if the ball is currently in that range on the court. Taking this into account, I have prepared this final version of my sliders that work at both All-Star and Superstar levels. I have gotten realistic scores in the 80s-90s from each game.

Ron's Final All-Star/Superstar Sliders

Global Sliders

Game Speed: 33
Free Throw Difficulty: 40
Boundary Force Field: 50
Injury Frequency: 55
Fatigue Effect: 55
Charge/Block Foul Frequency: 60
Shooting Foul Frequency: 15
Reach-in Foul Frequency: 15
In-air Collision Foul Frequency: 60

User/CPU Sliders

User Steal Ability: 25
User Interception Ability: 10
User Shot Block Ability: 10
User Dunk/Lay-up Block Ability: 10
User Freestyle Effectiveness: 33
User Dunk vs. Lay-up Frequency: 25
User Substitution Frequency: 0/50
User On-ball Defense Assist: 67
User Offensive Rebounding: 25
User Defensive Rebounding: 75
User Fakeout Discipline: 83
User Short Range Shooting: 45/33
User Medium Range Shooting: 45/33
User Long Range Shooting: 45/33
User Dunk Percentage: 45/33
User Lay-up Percentage: 45/33
User Adjusted Shot Percentage: 45/33
User On-ball Defense: 67
User Poor Release Shot Percent: 25
User Double-team Effectiveness: 50
User Pro Hop Effectiveness: 33
User Drop Step Effectiveness: 33

okay for those of you who's lookin for a challenge and tired of beating the cpu by a large margin, i would suggest these LAST UPDATE of my sliders.... as ijblpacers said, every posession is a war.....

basically, i just changed the level to SUPERSTAR and increased all the shooting range from 45 to 50(both user & cpu) from my previous sliders so that you can keep-up with the cpu.....

noticed that all sliders are equal for both user and cpu, the cpu even have an advantage on some sliders.... enjoy and good luck......

kobelive2005's SLIDERS(LAST UPDATE)-revised 18 APRIL 2005

*NOTE: Revisions are marked BLUE

Level = SUPERSTAR
Quarter Length = 10 minutes

Global Sliders

Game Speed: 50
Free Throw Difficulty: 50 to 60
Boundary Force Field: 65
Injury Frequency: 45
Fatigue Effect: 45
Charge/Block Foul Frequency: 50 (to make it balance)
Shooting Foul Frequency: 30
Reach-in Foul Frequency: 30
In-air Collision Foul Frequency: 60

USER Sliders / CPU Sliders

Steal Ability: 30 / 30
Interception Ability: 20 / 20
Shot Block Ability: 2 / 2 (changed from 5 to 2, about 4 to 7 bpg, just take smart shots)
Dunk/Lay-up Block Ability: 5 / 5 (changed from 15 to 10, then to 5)
Freestyle Effectiveness: 45 / 45
Dunk vs. Lay-up Frequency: 3 / 3 (fixed the small pg's dunking on traffic)
Substitution Frequency: 0 / 70
On-ball Defense Assist: 45 / N.A. (just right, not too much defense assist on my cpu controlled players)
Offensive Rebounding: 40 / 40
Defensive Rebounding: 50 / 50
Fake-out Discipline: 90 / 50 (still difficult enough to fake-out the cpu)
Short Range Shooting: 50 / 50
Medium Range Shooting: 50 / 50
Long Range Shooting: 50 / 50
Dunk Percentage: 50 / 50 (sometimes misses fast break dunks)

On-ball Physical Defense: 47 / 47 (changed from 40 to 45, then to 47)
Poor Release Shot Percent: 50 / 50
Double-team Effectiveness: 50 / 50
Pro Hop Effectiveness: 30 / 40
Drop Step Effectiveness: 30 / 40

I tried some of the slider's posted here for 12 minute quarter, superstar level, but I get too high results. Can someone post some tips about how to lower the scores? I read about running plays for me and my opponents but that didn't seem to work. Also I would like to ask about scoring in the paint because it is quite easy to just dunk all the time. I thought about increasing the on-ball defense but that would make harder to penetrate. Perhaps I need to lower strengh and dunking ratings for all the players?
Thanks in advance.

I saw in Superstar mode that defensive players don't even jump to block shots unlike in All-Star Mode. It is like the computer doesn't even pay attention to the sliders when Superstar is in play. So my speech below is based upon All-Star mode.

From my stats above, I have increased the On-Ball Defense and Assist to 67 for both User and CPU. The CPU slider is for every player on the court except for the one you are controlling.

About the high scores, make them 11 min quarters instead. With the sliders above, I have set up the Playoffs for this season and I am using Phoenix and Detroit. I play every odd game and sim the even ones to make the game a little fairer. Anyways, for the first games with these sliders with 12 minute quarters it was:

PHO 120, MEM 95
DET 106, PHI 101

I felt they were a little bit high, so I knocked off 1 min off the quarters and got these results for the games of the remaining games of the first round of the playoffs (I kept the Sim times to 12 min):

Phoenix vs. Memphis
Game 2: (Sim) PHO 88, MEM 80
Game 3: (Play) PHO 94, MEM 81
Game 4: (Sim) PHO 94, MEM 82

(the played game completely falls into place with the simmed ones here)

Phoenix win series 4-0

Detroit vs. Philadelphia
Game 2: (Sim) PHI 104, DET 97
Game 3: (Play) DET 97, PHI 67
Game 4: (Sim) DET 101, PHI 85
Game 5: (Play) DET 103, DET 69

(Detroit found their defense in the games I played, and not with a lot of blocks either)

Detroit wins series 4-1

As for the second round matchups for me, it will be Phoenix vs. Dallas and Detroit vs. Indiana. I hope the second one doesn't have a brawl in it ^^;

Anyways, the other two matchups are Miami vs. Washington and Seattle vs. San Antonio. I look forward to how all of these series turn out in the next few days.

Actually I lowered the length of the quarter to 10 minutes. It worked well, but I was wondering if there is a way to lower the scores playing 12 minutes quarter.

Lower the Shooting Sliders and the Dunk, Lay-up, and Adjusted Shot Percentages. Having all those levels at 35-40 for the User and 33 for the CPU are adequate.

Secondly, like you have tried to do, raise the On-ball Defense (and Assist) between 67-83 (mine is at 67).

Thirdly, slowing the game down doesn't matter. The CPU will initially play at your level, but then force you to play an uptempo game.

Is there any way to Save, Load, or Import slider adjustments?

When someone changes the sliders it is a trying task to have to change them all back to the way I would like them to be.

Is there a file where the slider settings are located?

Guys,I have only one question-how can you play the game with speed set so low? That isn't realistic,if you ask me. And I think it takes out all the fun out of the game, whats the fun in watching players runinng the fast break for half a minute? I just can't play that way. No hard feelings.

The Settings file is called settings.dat and is located in the My Documents\NBA Live 2005\settings folder, but it can't be modified by a simple text editor.

There is also a settings.dat file in every one of your saved Season/Dynasty folders. You should be able to overwrite the one in the main settings folder with the one in your saved games folder (copy, don't move)

The computer still fast breaks on the slower speed setting, it is just easier to keep up with the computer's offensive plays. Also, the speed of the computer processor is also taken into account.

Can't speak for anyone else, but fast breaks are still pretty quick for me when the game speed is turned down. With the right setting, the players move at an accurate pace while the scores remain realistic. But to each their own. (Y)

ok i don't know if it isright to write it here. but i have a problem and wonder if it has any relation with sliders.
each game i played goes head to head. u cannot make more than 12 or 13 points difference. if u do so u start missing dunks and open 3 pointers and the cpu nearly scores all shots till it gets a tie and then everything gets normal again. the opposite is also true that i f u are being beaten by 12 or 13 points u can easily cut the deficit.
i want the game to be realistic that good teams playing well can win by 15 or more points.
does anyone have a solution for this?

That situation is controlled by the CPU Assistance option as well as what we refer to as the "comeback code". In addition to the CPU Assistance option (which is designed to help the team behind come back and keep the scores close), the "comeback code" challenges the user by allowing the CPU some unfair advantages; namely making the user miss more easy shots (particularly dunks) while the CPU team's abilities are boosted. It generally kicks in during the fourth quarter.
