Realistic Sliders Thread (All Slider Discussions Here!)

Postby Andrew on Thu Sep 30, 2004 5:42 pm

Just as we did last year, let's keep slider discussions in one thread to save the creation of multiple threads asking about realistic sliders. If you have suggestions for slider tweaks or would like to ask questions about certain tweaks, please use this thread.

I have not messed with the sliders yet because I am currently satisfied with default.

It was fine for me in my first game. I'm sure I'll get frustrated eventually -- by then maybe someone with more time to play with sliders will post a good list. :D Honestly, so far I think the hop-step works pretty well (much better than last-years rabbit-fest).

Do any of you guys think that pro-hop would work better as a player rating attribute rather than a general gameplay slider? For instance, Kobe or T-Mac should be very effective with their pro-hop, whereas a less talented offensive player like Bruce Bowen would have a lower pro-hop rating. Same with drop step. Shaq should have a VERY high drop-step rating. A player like Ben Wallace should have a low drop-step rating.

Wouldn't this make more sense?

Pared's Live 2004 Sliders(credit to PARED)

Difficulty: All-Star
Quarter Length: 10 Minutes

Game Speed: 45 (Matter of personal taste)
Free Throw Difficulty: 70
Boundary Force Field: 60
Injury Frequency: 50
Fatigue Effect: 45
Charge/Block Foul Frequency: 50 - Just awesome, I get the right amount of calls to no calls. I raised this number to punish the Users who liked to just go in the post and try and force home a dunk. If you go too high on this number, the CPU post players will run into foul trouble early on and you won't see them. It happens too often, so this number seems good halfway.
Shooting Foul Frequency: 63
Reach-in Foul Frequency: 78
In-air Collision Foul Frequency: 73 (Fair amount of contact with calls and no calls)

User Sliders:

User Steal Ability: 47
User Interception Ability: 47 (Your players don't seem to deflect the ball enough. This helps!)
User Shot Block Ability: 19 (Remember, this is only on JUMPSHOTS. A lot of jumpshots don't get blocked on the perimeter, mostly inside)
User Dunk/Lay-up Block Ability: 27 (Helps to stop weak shots, star players can still take it strong)
User Freestyle Effectiveness: 40 (With my other settings, you can actually take players off the dribble! Plus you can't abuse it! No dribble showcasing with Shaq, he'll lose the ball! )
User Dunk vs. Lay-up Frequency: 25
User Substitution Frequency: 78 (Personal tastes.... players are subbed just about right.)
User On-ball Defense Assist: 80 (Helps to create more mid-range jumpers by the CPU! Not sure how.. just does!)
User Offensive Rebounding: 50
User Defensive Rebounding: 25
User Fakeout Discipline: 100
User Short Range Shooting: 40
User Medium Range Shooting: 43
User Long Range Shooting: 39
User Dunk Percentage: 50
User Lay-up Percentage: 50
User Adjusted Shot Percentage: 45 (For some reason, go lower, and players like AI can't get their running jumpers to fall at a realistic pace...)
User On-ball Defense: 50
User Poor Release Shot Percent: 38 (Remember, peak of the jump. You WILL hit the open J about 80% of the time)
User Double-team Effectiveness: 30

CPU Sliders:

CPU Steal Ability: 44
CPU Interception Ability: 44
CPU Shot Block Ability: 22
CPU Dunk/Lay-up Block Ability: 27
CPU Freestyle Effectiveness: 40
CPU Dunk Frequency: 20
CPU Substitution Frequency: 78 (Seems right)
CPU Offensive Rebounding: 100
CPU Defensive Rebounding: 50
CPU Fakeout Discipline: 50 (The CPU already responds to Fakes...)
CPU Short Range Shooting: 40
CPU Medium Range Shooting: 43
CPU Long Range Shooting: 38
CPU Dunk Percentage: 50
CPU Lay-up Percentage: 45
CPU Adjusted Shot Percentage: 39
CPU Adjusted Shot Frequency: 38
CPU On-ball Physical Defense: 44
CPU Poor Release Shot Percent: 39
CPU Double-team Effectiveness: 30

*ILL GO AND GET HIS LIVE 05 SLIDERS NOW...I posted the 2004's because most people like them a lot

Edit: Here they are....I jsut copied and pasted it.

I quote Pared:
VERY EARLY... but I've tweaked a lot and I'm liking things so far. The CPU attacks the rim A LOT... still trying to find if I can affect that somehow.

Overall, I've opened up the pace of the game for a slower, more strategic feel. Blocks were ridiculously high (and are STILL too high even at 0 for shots). The CPU does a great job of using freestyle to get by you this year.

One thing I wanted to do better this year than last year was keep the difficulty of the computer without sacrificing realism... I think I've achieved that even at this early stage.

ALL THE CREDIT GOES TO PARED....GJ MAN!(even though he dont post here I'll still say GJ)

Good sliders. The dunk to lay-up frequency should definitely be set between the 20 - 25 range.

I have mine at about 40-45 because I hit Iguodala on a solo fast break and he went up for a layup and missed it. :x

There is a drop-step effectiveness slider, but the drop step move from last year doesn't seem to be in the game anymore. Am I wrong?

i think last years is in there. it depends which direction you are facing and which way your body is moving.
So far, i have seen 3 different moves from the low post with the drop step buton. 2 different fakes, and the regular drop step.

This is the first version, try it out and tell me how it works for you, it's okay right now, I still need to play a few more games though. Slow the game down, if you don't get realistic numbers, or can't score, and are taking a shot every 12 seconds, don't complain.

shouldnt the freestyle effectiveness be alot more because you can barely get by the ppl, unless I have to change a diff slider to help get by ppl?

So....I've rented the game, as I have no $$$ to buy it, but I'm kind of annoyed, as it seems that my team can't make layups...they miss them in traffic, wide open, if they're a bit contested. It's kind of annoying to go down by 25 because of missed layups and turnovers (dribble drive dish is impossible).

eh, just me bitching...

I moved the on ball defense down, so I'm able to get by people without having the freestyle too effective.

I'm actually able to get fastbreak points, about 8-10 a game which is pretty good.

Turn the layup slider up, players do miss too many layups, put it at like 60-70.
