Anyone notice how the computer automatically adjusts your shot for you if you can't do it in time? That's lame... it doesn't matter how good or bad you are if the computer does it for you.

Also sometimes when crossing halfcourt, if you do the wrong freestyle move, you accidentally go backcourt... never happened in live 03.

And playing 2004 on the ps2 is so much smoother than on the pc... sorry, I'm a hardcore pc liver, but I played on my friend's ps2 and it handled oh so much better...

Did we stop asking for in-game saves or what?!! Who has time to play full 12-min quarters?

Whatever happened to the ability to save instant replays? Those rocked! But they're gone too!

Other thoughts:
-the clappers while shooting free throws in an away game are gone!
-commentary is great, but could sound a little smoother
-cyberfaces are terrible this year!

-improve the graphics, I sound like this is the only thing that matters, but face it it does make a diference.
-If all possible include some editing files somewhere in the games files for the patchers to find ;)
-'Steal Madden's franchise' Or at least their FA signing
-A UI created for the PC, not some crappy port.

when a player goes for a layup/dunk and if u think you are going to get blocked then you can use the right analog stick to try and avoid them by moving ur hands away or jordanesque move or whatever. but of course only players like kobe/mj/iverson,tmac,etc can do fancy ones, players like bradley, j. collins and those immobile big men wnt be able to do it.
also, chances of those kinds of shots going in will be low. just like the real game

I might as well post this here also..since this is the official thread...

Bump mapping

..Check out the Doom 3 screens and you'll know what that is. Models look like they have 298540 million polys yet they dont...why? The textures feature something call bump mapping which make textures/models look very detailed.

Pixel shaders

This can be used to make players look sweaty ingame. For reference...once again..see Doom 3 screenshots or Max payne 2 screens. You can even check out ingame screens of Espn Basketball to get an idea of what it looks like.

Real time lighting/shadows

This one is not as important as the rest but it definitely adds alot of reaslism. (see Doom 3 screens..lol). Currently in live...places like the urban court..the buildings and players cast shadows on surfaces...but have you ever seen a shadow from another player or the evironment being cast on other players? Have you ever seen light move during gameplay? Think about that for a second.

Last but not least...

Havoc Physics/Ragdoll physics

..Play or look at Max Payne 2 videos to have an idea of what it looks like. Even better...play Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance(kickass game btw). Notice how the player's hair move..as well their clothes? I think if nba live added these physics it would make the game look 100% more realistic. Think of it...nowitski and larry bird with hair that bounce....spree doing the toma hawk and his uniform flails about. Out of all these graphical improvements, i'd love to see this the most.

One more thing, my biggest and only gripe for the game.

I hate how after a plyer gets bumped in the air they have to stagger around for a second or two everytime and can't go after the ball.

Sometimes a staggering player will have the ball bounce into his hands and travel as well. This is the only problem I have with gameplay and I really want it fixed. Pretty please EA :miserable:

yea i hate how after missing a shot, getting blocked etc the players get stuck and can't go after an offensive rebound or recover the loose ball

and players try to get put back dunks on offensive rebounds too much let them get the ball first be4 they try a dunk geez...they just go up trying to dunk in the offensive board even when they are like 15 feet away

also they need to fix the collisions the idea is great but its annoying when ur in the post and ur guy does the ugly shot b/c a player is near you or when u get double teamed and you cant dribble away if their is space you just start to the the keep the ball high thing

and the passing also needs work...i think the problem is that they dont test the game enough i mean these guys should play like 100 games and compare it to real life then realize what they have to fix and change

i dunno if this is good but i think more ratings should be added for players like :

creativity - for passing, dunking, crossovers (some guys have good handle but when they crossover they dont do like head fake crossover) etc

technique - affect if a player always boxes out, how they play on offense like someone like duncan who will use a lot of footwork things

Fast break - this should affect games (like many players on dallas would have a high one except like forston, bradley)

finese and power - affect how guys play (like yao wont be bangin as much as other centers cause he'll have more finese than power)

potential - for rookie and player development

work ethic - also for development (guys with high ethic can gain weight during off season, get faster etc guys with low ones dont get worse though)

def awareness - this is already there but it should affect how guys play on defense it doesnt seem like it does nething...it should affect how they react, when they double team...

injury - guys with high ones can play thorugh minor injuries and dont get injured as much

maybe they could add a section in players ratings called style and it would have the fast break, creativity, technique, finese these things should affect how a player plays in the game

slashing vs shooting - a meter so u can pick which one the player does more during a game...shooter will take more mid range shots and 3's than inside shots and layups

for pg's pass vs shoot - so a guys like francis will have 60% shoot to 40% pass

clutch - this should mean the guy will get the ball more in the final minutes and also that he has a better chance of scoring

clutch 3pt - prevent guys like shaq from getting the ball in crunch when a 3 is needed

post up vs face up - for big man play and for pg's like billups and marbury, and players like kobe - doesn't affect them when they are outside tho

...........................................................................................................
for making players they should add wing span so u can have a guy like tayshaun who has a 7-0 wingspan

they should have different shooting forms i know this would be a little hard to get used to when you play but then we could us comp shooting...they should put it only for players that shoot very distinctively, like shawn marion, juwan howard, shaq and when u make a player you can pick his shooting like guard 1, guard 2, guard 3, big man 1, 2, 3, shaq etc and it would have a preview on the side showing how they look

make players smaller and shorter iverson is so tall compared to the rim... let players get the ball inside the arc not always outside (when guys comeout to recieve the ball they get pushed out)

better battling for offensive boards allow offensive players to be able to shoot and get right back up and tip the ball not get stuck

AI must shoot mid range pleaseeee...not just inside and 3's

passing rating should affect guys assists not how well they pass and if they get turnovers from passes i mean big ben doesn't get a lotta assists but doesn't mean he doesn't pass well just that he doesnt pass to create for others...guys like mac and kobe don't get enough dimes

Dynasty

u should be able to set ur teams gameplay for simmed games and view box scores after games

Add a team gameplay option will have :

coach determine if u were defensive or offensive minded

u pick how much ur team fast breaks

control the minutes of players, how many players in rotation...who rotates where how much they play

zone vs man

offense......conservative or aggressive

defense.....conservative or aggressive (aggresive will press more etc)

who you run your offense through like primary player(s)
..................................................................

sign coaches, assistants, trainers and the whole lot and they should have ratings that affect how you perform

the interactive training camp already said bout this

more trade options...have like up to 4 team trades and teams should have trade blocks so you can check who other teams want to get rid off and you can put players there to and reciever offers, have AI make blockbuster trades not always 1on1 trades and trades involving stars, also have AI do things like decide to rebuild and get rid of some players to build around a young core

ability to make trades on draft night make draft night exciting have a screen on the side where the computer is giving you offers and if telling you to draft a certain player they want and they'll trade with you, offer things like exhibition games okay maybe not exhibition games, money, future picks for up to 3 years maybe

you should be able to pick when you give a team a pick so it doesn't always have to be the next year like you can have 3years be4 its manditory to give the pick, and maybe a restriction if its a top 3 pick, in the gm desk there should be a place that tells you about all you picks that you've traded or got and

free agent signing period like madden's so its over a peroid of time and everyone can make offers, have the whole system where if a player is a restricted free agent his former team can match any offer and if not then other teams can get him so its not like every player on you roster is a restricted free agent

ability to negotioate with players whenver you want so u can do things like extend their contracts, give them a pay cut etc cause too many crappy players start asking for what im guessing is max contracts with the point system the game has

no automatic rookie signing you have to sign them especially for second round picks im not sure but i don't think you are allowed to negotiate lottery picks salary's

better AI offseason moves they should actually think and do thing that help them, no need to draft a sf when you have a good sf already

teams should have needs to fufill like if ur low in 3pt% the game will say u need shooters or low blocks per game it will say u need interior presence etc...

draft...depending on how much money u want to spend you can workout as many rookies as u want if they want to workout for you...there's a screen and it has each rookie and u can click workout and they can accept or decline like a guy like lebron james won't workout for a team like the lakers who has a really low first round pick and u can play a game with the rookies against some of ur less experienced players

so on draft day you know things about the players like their vertical, times for things like full court run, half court run, height, height with shoes weght, wingspan, standing reach

be able to go over the cap but you lose money and if the points system is kept the cap is gotta be increased

be able to fire ur coach during the season

show players ages not only amount of years pro i don't want to have to calculate how old a player is from when he was born

Actually funny thing that playtesting was mentioned here... I'm pretty sure that this game isn't playtested at all before shipping, which is so disgusting at this point in time.

I worked for Ensemble Studios playtesting Age of Mythology for 3 weeks in the summer of 2002 (before its release), along with 5 other temporary contract playtesters, and just us temps logged over 1000 games each during that time for playtesting purposes, let alone the full time staff of 6 more playtesters. (Oh and keep in mind ES paid us significant wages, cough a G a week, cough, as well as provided free lodging, transportation, airfare, snacks, meals, and entertainment...)

It's ridiculous that a fully released game which retails for 49.99$ is about as loosely put together as a Gilligan's Island coconut radio. I mean honestly, a franchise mode where the CPU doesn't resign free agents? How hard is that bug to find before release? On that topic, when your fanbase finds the bug in the 2003 version of the game and it STILL ISN'T FIXED by the 2004 release, that's just pathetic. Seriously.

This is a major contributing factor in my belief that EA Sports has no interest in making a PLAYABLE game. Their only concern is making a game that looks pretty at NBA half time shows, or in advertisements so that they can sell copies which will just sit on people's shelves at home.

If EA Sports has any interest in repairing their damaged reputation as game designers, as well as maintaining the fading interest in their NBA Live series, they will seriously think about hiring some playtesters (or replacing their current ones if they have any, with any vertibrates that have at least SEEN an NBA game in their life).

One final note: I know you do it for the 95% of your target market that only buy games for the fancy graphics and the ability to dunk over everyone all day long, but PLEASE concentrate a little bit less on the pretty stuff, and a little bit more on the gameplay. NOTE: This does not mean make it impossible to stop fast breaks and make people jump 80 inches off the ground, it means REALISTIC game play, not only in-game but also in franchise mode and especially in simulating games.

Oh and bring back multiplayer franchise mode NOW

yea when you sim the bench players have got to play minutes........no bench player ever plays more than 25mins when u sim a game....and every starter plays in the 30's look at the raptors micheal curry would hardly ever play 30mins in a game

This just lost me 2500 nba store points in a rooke 90's all-star vs. Bobcats game. Shaq is forced to adjust his shot by a 5'9'' point guard. I wish players would just go up strong more often, you're more likely to get a foul and to make the bucket if you do that in real life. What's the point of you being able to control it if the cpu automatically does whenever anyone's close.

Need a rating added for Minutes Per Game. This would make CPU teams substitute realistically. Using Detroit as an example from last season. Michael Curry started but played 19.9 mpg. Corliss Willaimason was the 6th man but played 25.1 mpg. Some teams primarily use 8 or 9 players but others use 11 or 12. The CPU controlled teams rarely use the the 10th - 12th roster position players.

Another problem is that the game starts too quickly after CPU called timeouts. You do not have time to identify where your controlled player is on the court. The CPU can fastbreak on you after calling a TO while you are trying to get in correct position. If the referee gave the CPU the ball to inbound after a few seconds this would fix this problem. Of coure this would apply to human controlled teams also. It can be difficult to inbound to your player after a TO.

exactly like a team rotation pattern or sumthin.....on toronto too he starts and is only playing 18mpg but in the game he would play like 35mins

be able to set team tendencies, substitution patterns and things like that

Postby fgrep15 on Thu Nov 27, 2003 7:42 am

alright i got another one

first players should have a yearly condition rating and for most games they'll come in at 100 but when slightly injured or coming off an injury it will be like 70% and back to back games like 75% on the second night...so when managing your roster u can see the players condition rating so u know if to play them or give them rest and whatnot

for dnyasty i dont know if you are the coach, GM or owner.....they should have 2 modes in dynasty coach and owner...you don't need GM it just like owner with less options....and with coach you dont have to worry about caps and all that but you sign players and you have a contract if you do good they resign you if not you get fired and can get signed by another team or fail in you coaching dynasty

COACH

if they make it that you are the coach should have a set weekly budget for training and other things (from fifa 2004)....so lets say $5000 a week or something then you can get more for how you perform during the week like go 3-0 for the week you get $1000 more....as the years pass it will increase if you are succesfull with a max of $10 000 and if you suck then you will get less with a minimum of $3500 and if you give your team too hard training before a game they'll come in with 90% condition or something

so when you start the game you pick a team and it will be like indiana signs (name) for (amount) for (_years) then you have goals that can get you an extension, more money etc

goals include :

have players in all-star team the more the better
make playoffs
win division
win conference
win nba champoinship
have a positive gf/ga difference
have team assist to t.o ratio over 3 or something
team shoot over 33% from 3pt land
team shoot over 43% from field
hold opponents to less than 33% from 3pt land
hold opponents to less than 40% from field
score 100ppg
hold opponents to less than 95ppg blah blah blah

OWNER

as a owner you have money for team needs and you set the weekly budget and you can spend it on extra training, special player training and all that but if you spend all the team need money be4 season ends you won't be able to train unless you use the money for other things (salaries, maintenance etc)

so you start and you have lets say $400 000 000 you buy a team for some amount so depending on what team you want it is more money.....like dallas, lakers, sac, san antonio, minnesota, indiana will be expensive ( i would pick charlotte yeaa!!) so you get the team and you have controll over everything but you also need to make sure you dont lose money

filling seats - the players could have a charisma rating so if you get a guy like vince carter even though you are doing bad the fans won't dessert you b/c they like the player they wont fill the seats but they'll come, charisma can increase by a player winning awards (mvp, roy, defensive player etc) the population of the city could also affect how many people you get on an average game not a playoff game and you can have bobblehead days, poster days and all that .... also when you play a really good team or team with a high charisma player it would bring more people (1-3 draft picks would have a reasonable charisma rating)

you control everything sign all personel that is worth adding to the game no popcorn stand vendor or something like that.....

you can get tv offers like if you are in toronto it'll be like sportsnet offers toronto a 1 year tv contract for $____ or atlanta UPN 23 (made it up) gives the hawks a 3year 6million dollar tv contract, a candy bar company contract or a pepsi contract or something (to advertise and sell in your arena)...just things to give you more money

you also have the goals like:

leading league in attendance
winning division, conference, championship
having a record over 70%
players on all-star team
players winning awards blah blah wich will atract contracts and give more money

every year you have a estimated income if things stay at a constant and end of year a financial statement

there is also a possibility of you going bankrupt if you spend too much money on garbage or can't fill the seats in you arena etc...... in this case you also lose in your dynasty

i know it might be odd to lose but i think it would make it more challenging to know that everything you do can affect you team

Hi
I think EA should not concentrate to much on manager features such as mentioned in the post before.
Of course, those are pretty nice features but I think there are a lot of things which are far more important than negotiation tv deals.
What I really agree with, is that EA should employ some game testers!
Moreover, they should try to bring more complexity into the game, that means more player ratings, more sliders and so forth.
What about NBA Live on DVD, wouldn't it guarantee for more features, better graphics?
