No idea why, but I'll have to check it out. I wouldn't think there'd be any problem with that, but I haven't actually tried to do that yet.

Hey Andrew, do you know how to copy whole columns in dbf? I want to copy my edited origshoe column to your roster. I always have to edit this column new, when I have downloaded a roster update. Or is there another possibility ? Thanks for an answer
Sorry for bad english

You can use Microsoft Excel.

Yeah, use MS Excel but be careful and make a backup. It's easy to incorrectly save (and thus corrupt) DBF files when using Excel.

Hi Andrew,
I did make changes to saves/players.dbf but even then, when i reload the rosters, the changes I make still are not showing in the game...any ideas as to what may be going on?

Did you replace the players.dbf (and appearance.dbf) in \My Documents\NBA Live 2005\database\workingdb ?

Excuse me,I will trouble you for the third time.
I couldn't find FACEID in player.dbf file,and I find it in appearance.dbf file.I am puzzled,In player.dbf my created player's PLAYID is 1609,but in apperence.dbf I can't find 1609 in APPEARID.Could you tell me why?
Thank you!

Two questions:
1) Did you look in the \My Documents\NBA Live 2005\database\workingdb\appearance.dbf? I would look there first.

2) Sometimes the created player's PLAYERID is not automatically added to the APPEARID in the appearance.dbf. I've seen it sometimes add it, sometimes not. I haven't done it often enough to know when it will or will not. If the created player's PLAYERID is not in the appearance.dbf, then use the "INSERT INTO" SQL statement in http://www.nbaliveforums.com/ftopic23552.php to add it yourself. That's the safest way to alter the table and automatically save itself.

I'm having some trouble with created teams. I've been creating past championship and all-star teams using existing graphics (except for players that do not exist - I just create one). Everything works fine, but there are 2 problems that I cann't solve.\

The first is that whenever I try to play 2 created teams against each other, the game crashes right before it finishes loading (it crashes on the last basketball on the progress bar). It works fine with a created team against a normal team, but not with 2 created teams.

The second is that I cannot use the created teams in playoffs at all. In season mode, I can replace an existing team with a created team (otherwise, it doesn't work), and play the entire season and playoffs without any problems, but in playoffs mode, no matter what I do, it always says that the user team has been knocked out right after it starts the playoffs, even before any series begins.

I would really appreciate any help with these problems. Thanks!

Well In dynasty mode you have 25 seasons, I don't think we can add more. Plus it would be boring without players like Shaq, etc... :P

No, you can't play beyond the 25 seasons. You can copy roster data and start a new Dynasty but the game won't recognise it as being the next season, so there will be overlap in the career stats.

Hey, I was wondering exactly what the DESTINY values mean. I understand that it affects how much players improve/decline over time, but how do the exact values represent this? Thanks.

It ranges from 1-8, with 1 being the best and 8 being the worst ie a player with a DESTINY value of 1 has much more potential for development than a player with a value of 8.

So THIS is truly where the power of Andrew in the rosters lies, not so much with the ratings you give players. Andrew gets to predict the outcome of all the players and we blindly accept them. How naive of us. 8-)

Just kidding. I did notice you have Bogut and Marvin Williams, someone predicted to have HUGE potential, at DESTINY=5, with Deron Williams and Chris Paul (this kid used to ride my bus! What a claim to fame I have!) at 3. I'd think at first that maybe you're just a UNC hater, but you have Felton at a 2. Hmmm.... interesting. :P

Actually I haven't adjusted their Destiny attributes yet, the game randomly assigns it when you create a player.

Creating Team

Postby supaboy47 on Sun Jul 31, 2005 3:08 am

Hey Andrew, I created a whole nother Team. The name is the Arlington Ballers. But I have 2 problems.

#1 When at the screen to pick a jersey, it has no display but it only says 2004-05 Home and no matter how many times you press the over button it stays up there. Also, There is no picture of the jersey, just the words in the bar.

#2 With this problem, the game won't play. It always crashes right before it starts play!

Please help me!

It's possible you're missing a few values. Did you correctly edit teamgear.dbf to add jerseys for the team? Also, if you don't make a "jersey preview" nothing will be displayed on the jersey select screen, only the name.

Postby supaboy47 on Sun Jul 31, 2005 5:47 pm

Could please explain to me how you create a new team. Like, EVERYTHING. Or is it here somewhere in another topic?

It's been discussed a couple of times, I also wrote this tutorial a while back that might be of some use.

A few of the values are different in NBA Live 2005 but the steps are essentially the same.

Sorry I meant fields, not values. SALARYTEAM is now CASHTEAM in players.dbf and there's a couple of extra fields in some of the dbfs though nothing that should affect custom teams (to the best of my recollection, anyway).

In the guide where it mentions the field SALARYTEAM, replace it with CASHTEAM. The procedure is just the same, I'm just pointing out the difference so you don't go looking for a non-existent field in players.dbf.
