I have a Logitech Wingman Cordless and absolutely love it for NBA Live. I bought it for NBAL2004, but before that I had a Wingman corded for three years. I've had no problems with these Logitech controllers (except for a balky right stick on the old one; easily self-fixed). The right stick is incredible, and I expect it to be more so in NBAL2005 (drooling in anticipation; have to console myself with Doom3 in the meantime).
The Wingman cordless is very similar in size to an xbox cntrl, but a bit heftier. It's got a little weight to it, but it feels good in the hand; not like yankin' some cheap little plastic-only piece of crap around. It feels quality ... I just wish the force feedback worked in the NBAL games.
You may have had logitech issues, but I'm pretty damned well satisfied. The Wingman cordless has been my 2nd best game input device purchase, excepting my Logitech Cordless MX duo (no wires on the desktop whatsoever ... totally badass!) (and no, I don't work for Logitech ... I just like their stuff)
