Same problems as every year

Sun Sep 21, 2025 9:54 am

Hi!

I am having the same problems as every year. I play on pro with realistic = CPU shooting...I hoped that the gameplay would be different, but it is the same. I can set pick and rolls, but that's it...getting good shots or scoring without following plays is difficult...you keep missing...but when you actually pick a play, then run it the FG% is way too high. I don't remember the actual play, but in 2K23 you could always select a play for a 80% 3pointer....however, other players do not work...players either don't hit anything or e.g. Olajuwon makes 85% of his shots in the paint. Tweaking the game is impossible as I either do not make many shots unless it is a superstar OR the overall FG% is too high.

Been struggling with that forever...NBA Live 2000, 2002-2005 was better...

Defensively, I have more problems getting steals and blocks in 2K25...when controlling the defender I only get called for reaching in...or cannot block anything...the only better defense is when I do not control the defender and press X to go to the coach settings, then choose whatever...then suddenly plays play defense, e.g. physical defense in 2K23...

Moreover, there are many choach settings that users like Popboy explain...and how you have to set them right after the start of every game because otherwise your CPU teammates don't do anything useful.

Is there a setting that has good offense and defense? I don't want to set several settings every game...I just want to have auto subs (subs have been broken forever...based on rotation...players get minutes although they are assigned 0 etc.) and auto strategy and play the game without a ton of other stuff to set.

Olajuwon and especially players in the paint with backdown moves score a lot, but Jordan could not even drain open shots...3/14...even Grant and Cartwright hit midranger jumpers. :D

Dee shared some excellent tips on our latest podcast: https://www.nba-live.com/nlsc-podcast-5 ... w-we-play/

To quickly recap a couple of pertinent recommendations that he made:

  • Setting the coaching/playcalling to auto seems to be best approach for getting players to go into motion and not just stand around.
  • Stealing is kind of broken in that it's "press Steal to foul", rendering the control kind of useless. You can get some steals by getting on the ballhandler's side and pressing Steal. There'll be some awkward clipping, but it does work. Otherwise, playing the passing lanes is the more efficient way of getting steals.
  • Using the right stick to challenge shots is more effective than jumping for blocks.
  • It's best to leave some space between you and the ballhandler on defense, then close in if they attempt a shot.

I had trouble timing Michael Jordan's jumpshot as well, something felt really off about it compared to other players. It feels like a later release than it should be. Generally speaking though, I'm not a fan of the Green or Miss approach, and even on Pro the timing is less forgiving than in many past games.

Thanks! I use realistic FG% instead of user...so it wasn't a timing issue with Jordan.

Historical players are poorly-made with numerous inaccuracies with ratings, Badges, etc, so it wouldn't surprise me if that was a factor in his subpar performance. MJ definitely didn't feel like MJ when I was playing with him, especially compared to games from several years ago.

All I can say is slider tweaks make a huge difference more so this year than others, I also turn off shot timing and enjoy the game more for doing so but overall ive lowered the game level to allstar and tweaked the game speed and sliders and iam really enjoying the game so far

What sliders do you use?

There basically the preset allstar sliders with gamespeed at 42, body sensitivity at 0 for both teams and to cpu attacking the basketball tweaks.

Il do a quick video of my settings mate and post it here

No worries mate!

You make have to tweak certain sliders here and there to your liking, I still tweak them from game to game if the cpu shoots say under 45% for 2 straight games while I shoot 50+ id say lower my shooting categories by 1 or 2 point and higher there's, same with on ball defence but every teams play styles are different so I do have games where I blow the lakers out and then get smashed by the Pistons

Thanks. I cannot find some settings though. The menu looks different...I have boxout assist strength, but no pro stick defense and no defensive assist with intensive-d. Where are they?
