Need help choosing one 2k version offline.

Postby Smoove7 on Sun Sep 17, 2017 5:03 am

So I really have not played 2k in a long time, but with 2k18 coming out I began to think. I wonder which version is best for me overall and have done my own research. It appears as though many still enjoy 2k11 as their #1. 2k14 and 2k16 are up there as well. I am mostly offline and enjoy my player and franchise mode. I also enjoy classic teams and players as well as modding on pc. I have heard there are 2k versions which were harder to mod. Is there a version which offers fluid gameplay, balance, easy ways to install mods, and a decent gaming experience? Maybe I am asking for too much, but oh how the reviews are all over the place. For an offline my career, fluid smooth gameplay, and franshise mode, which versions should I lean towards for the PC?

If offline MyCAREER is what you're after, you're going to have to go last gen.

Thank you for the reply. I do have 2k14 for PC and have been playing that today in franchise mode. I am unsure how much of a leap forward the newer versions are. Do you think a newer version would be worth the purchase for offline play?

If it's a franchise experience you're after, I'd definitely take MyLEAGUE in NBA 2K17 and NBA 2K18 over the old Association mode. Association was great in its day, but it's been surpassed. MyLEAGUE provides an offline experience and doesn't utilise VC at all. MyGM does use VC, and has been revamped with a story this year, so MyLEAGUE is what you'd be after.

I agree with Andrew. The MyLeague experience is fantasic in 2K17 and 18.

Definitely appreciate your thoughts. I am able to purchase 2k17 for a very significant discount over 18. Do you feel 18 is worth the extra money, plus I am sure there are tons of mods available for 17 over 18 at this time. Thanks to NLSC for all that you do :bowdown2:

I'm liking the improvements to the offline play in NBA 2K18 so far.

Personally, I still prefer 2K17 at the moment. But that's because I backed up my .exe...

Why did you back up the EXE? was that for actual changes made to the EXE to get a different game feel or related to patches? Or am I way to much of a modder that I even consider changes to the EXE, for personal use of course (offline play only), unless strictly prohibited by the developer.

Go to the tutorials section for 2K18 and you will see my thread about it.

Now I understand. I am guessing unfortunately for Steam, if I were to buy 2k17 now, I would have the newest version with patches correct?

Correct, unfortunately.
