I didn't say it was 2K's fault, just that it was a bummer. Atleast we can fill them on PC.

It looks like 2K did away with the shot meter on Layups for 2K18, but does anybody know if they are still timed? I couldn't see anything in the dev notes.

Not just PC, but consoles too (just without custom cyberfaces).

I think they could've changed the roster system a bit, so each team could play with only 8 players total, for example. Or something similar. In my opinion it's worse having fake players than only the few real players that are licensed.

I thought they still had Kendrick Perkins and Nazr Mohammed (both should be on the 11-12 Thunder). So it seems like the 07-08 Celtics won't have Perkins either. No Boozer for the 10-11 Bulls according to that video as well.

Good points... I hope those faces are still in the files... (Not expecting Boozer, he wasn't last year)

Someone mentioned this in a video posted on this thread. To save you the time, the layup meter was removed but you can still control when the ball is released. Basically, what we had before 2k17

Is there something wrong with animations? Running, jumpshots, passing or its only me?

Just a general reminder for everybody, not you in particular. Before anyone questions different animation speeds or forms, play the game with the vanilla sliders and 50 game speed. The moment you are using a set of sliders that pushes the game anywhere under 45 or over 55, the animations speeds for 2K17 begin to be altered. I was personally using a 57 game speed set of sliders and when the videos started dropping in, I actually considered the game sluggish. After playing the game with the vanilla settings for a couple of days, the difference is definitely there, for the better. The game looks way more fluid and natural.
So to answer your question, I see nothing wrong with those. After about 12 hours of MyTeam with the default settings, 2K18 looks amazing and better than what we ever had.

Seems weird to still have timing matter on layups, but remove the guide that indicates the accuracy of your timing. I suppose shot feedback will still be there, but still. Seems counter-intuitive.

I agree. I'd rather the system be changed to allow for lineups with less than 13 players to ensure that fakes aren't necessary. I guess the benches would look a little empty during gameplay, but it'd still be better than seeing the fake players on the roster to begin with. I think having a bunch of fake players that all look the same is more of a distraction on the sidelines than some empty seats on the bench.

the system does need a change, my terrible suggestion:
Allow us to completely change/edit the "fake players"... names/info/appearance/face/skin tone/etc... So we can at least attempt to make them look like the missing players.
for this to work tho the current 2k CAP system will need more variations and improvements.

I'd love to see that too. Unfortunately, I think some of the issues with lawsuits regarding previous games that allowed that might be a roadblock here. If it is feasible though, it'd be a great solution.

Ok i understand that 2k dont have license for all players but for sake, why all fake players looks the same? I know that Dee will update them all but hey, 2k could at least create few more fakes variations. Its just showing how lazy they are by simply copy and paste one fake player for all classic teams.
If they dont have license they can still change one lettrer of name or last name.
I dont understand situation with missing perkins or boozer.
All mentioned situations showing how they rly treat retro stuff.

I like this idea so much. Konami used to do this on its Pro Evolution Soccer series (I don't play them anymore so I don't know if they keep resorting to this). However, I'm not sure if changing a few letters of the player's name and using a generic cyberface with the same hairstyle, skin tone, height, number, position and dominant hand is legally an option. Do you remember the Ed O'Bannon case? According to ESPN, "the game [EA's NCAA Basketball 09] featured a UCLA power forward with O'Bannon's height, weight, skin tone, No. 31 and left-handed shot. He even had the player's bald head." And that was enough to wreak havoc on NCAA-EA-college players relations.

I agree. If they're going to have fake players, at least make them look different. It's very conspicuous if all the fake players sitting on the bench have a headband and the same basic face, for example.

However, Jim Brown's lawsuit against EA Sports set a precedent that would make giving them a similar fake name to a real player a really bad idea from a legal standpoint. Between his lawsuit and Ed O'Bannon's lawsuit, developers have to be really careful with that stuff now. Of course, if there were the means to edit them in-game as if they were CAPs, they could call them all Bob Fakename with a generic appearance and it wouldn't matter one bit, as we'd easily be able to take care of it ourselves.

When it comes to Boozer and Perkins, my guess is that the problem is that they're not yet officially retired, so they don't come under the NBARPA (retired players union) or the NBAPA (active players union) licensing agreements, which might mean that they'd be free to negotiate their own deals. Since both have indicated a desire to return to the NBA, maybe 2K are hoping they'll latch on with a team and thus be included under the NBAPA licensing agreement again, so they don't have to pay them any fee they demand. Alternatively, maybe they are still members of the NBAPA and thus can't negotiate their own deals, but also can't be automatically included under the usual licensing agreement because they haven't actually been under contract to a team for more than a season. It could be something finicky and unusual like that.

Then again, 2K declined Charles Barkley's offer of donating to the retired players' fund in order to get him on the All-Time and retro teams, while instead presumably paying LaVar Ball to put him in the game, so who knows.
