Sliders Suggestions (Realism, NBA Jam-like, and everything in between)

Postby Andrew on Fri Dec 15, 2017 12:57 pm

Something I want to work on over the holidays is a set of sliders for optimal realism/gameplay. It's been a while since I've done that, and with the advances NBA Live 18 has made, it's something I'd like to try my hand at once again. I think it could also be beneficial in terms of providing feedback to the dev team for fine-tuning and general performance. And of course, I'm also thinking of devising a set that would create an NBA Jam-type of experience, for anyone who wants to change things up.

With that being said, does anyone have any slider sets they'd care to share at this time? What should be the first area of focus?

These are the ones I was using, but I've been working on a new set. This game plays its best at 12 minute quarters. Once you play on 12 mins, you can't go back. I have this theory that the CPU sliders are tied to tendencies, mainly with the SHOT OFF DRIBBLE and JOSTLE VS BLOW BY sliders. I've had them set to where the CPU will literally go the three pt line and shoot threes, and others where they would go into the paint. I've been trying to find a balance to get some mid-range jumpers from the CPU, but to no avail. The shooting tendencies definitely have nothing to do with the shooting sliders though. But with these current sliders, the shooting % have been under 50% for 12 minute quarters. I'm working on my new ones this weekend so I'll keep you up to date.

Minutes: 12 Minute Quarters
Auto Subs: OFF
Difficulty: All-Star
Game Speed: 84

USER/CPU are the same unless stated otherwise

Inside shooting: 40
Med Range: 40
Three-point shooting: 40
Free throw: 60
Post shooting: 50
Lay up: 70/50
Post move: 60
Dunk Frequency: 50
Reach in Fouls: 0/10*
Jump Shot Fouls: 60
Post Shot Fouls: 60
Lay Up Fouls: 60
Dunk Fouls: 60
Offensive Air: 90
Offensive Ground: 90
Defensive Air: 90
Defensive Ground: 80
Steal Success: 40/30
Alley-Oop: 40
Shots off Dribble: 80/20
Shot Contest: 80
Shot Blocking: 60
Offensive Rebounding: 10/0
Off-Ball Push: 100
Off-Ball Jostle: 100
Jostle vs Blow-by: 40
Dribble Move: 40

Sounds good. (Y) Is that with or without an accelerated clock?

Cool.

It's been pointed out before (I believe you were one of the first to do so, actually), but the trigger zones for layups and dunks are probably a little too far out, which hurts the midrange game. Whether it's the user or the CPU attempting a moving shot in the midrange, gathers are triggered quite readily and dunks and layups thus happen more often than they should. We might be out of luck trying to address that with sliders, but it's worth a shot.

I've tried it, there was a time about a month ago, I got the CPU to shoot mid-rage jumpers, but I forgot to write down what I had. It's very possible, a lot of the time it was a head fake from the 3pt line, they would step in and shoot the mid-range. Baseline mainly. Mid-range game is usually a miss though, especially from the elbows. Shot contest is probably area could be affecting it.

Damn. Back to the drawing board, I guess!

I mean, there's only so much we can do with sliders, but definitely worth experimenting. Like I said, it could also be good feedback for the dev team in terms of tuning, this year and next.

A lot of them are contested too, I'm trying out different teams, Lillard took most of these, he was trigger happy for some reason. I was up 60-55 at the half on 12 minute quarters, 41% & 45% I believe were the shooting %'s

Look at this step back CPU Reggie Jackson pulled off on me. Recognized a big on him and created space with the step back.

They updated the game, and it kind of ruined the sliders. They added some new situational animations, and under the basket animations so I'm gonna do a little bit of tweaking, I wish I knew what they tweaked lol. I don't have suggestions for 5 min quarters because for me the game plays best at 10-12 mins. Maybe turn the shooting up past 50. I also noticed that since they don't really update the rosters line ups, the NBA advanced stats page (https://stats.nba.com/lineups/traditional/) is a big help since the data is probably based on these line ups.
